Winston (coach's decision) is listed as inactive but available as the Giants' emergency third quarterback Sunday versus the Chargers, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
While Winston will retain his role from the first three games of the season, the top of New York's QB depth chart has changed Week 4, with Jaxson Dart poised for his first NFL start and Russell Wilson handling backup duties. Winston will see the field only if Dart and Wilson suffer injuries.

First-round rookie Jaxson Dart will again work as the backup to starter Russell Wilson, with Winston continuing to suit up as the emergency No. 3 quarterback. Wilson struggled in his Giants debut last week, and Dart could get an opportunity if those struggles continue Sunday. Winston, however, can only take the field in Dallas if both Wilson and Dart are injured.

Winston entered training camp competing against rookie first-rounder Jaxson Dart for the QB2 job behind Russell Wilson. Winston lost that battle and will start the season as the emergency third-string quarterback, meaning he'll only play in Washington if both Wilson and Dart were sidelined. Winston signed with the Giants in March after starting in seven of 12 regular-season games with the Browns in 2024, when he completed 61.1 percent of his passes for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Winston spent the entirety of training camp and the preseason listed as the team's QB2 behind Russell Wilson, but rookie first-rounder Jaxson Dart had an impeccable preseason and has now leapfrogged the veteran as Wilson's top backup. Winston will now likely be inactive for Week 1.
