Edwards is slated to re-sign with the Texans on a two-year, $9.5 million contract, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Edwards, who is now preparing for his age-31 season, is coming off a resurgent 2024 campaign in which he tallied 31 tackles (21 solo), the highest mark he's logged since his rookie year back in 2015. His 2024 tackle total also included 3.0 sacks, and Edwards added two pass breakups and two fumble recoveries across 13 regular-season games.

Edwards finished the 2024 regular season with 31 total tackles (12 solo), including 3.0 sacks, while also adding two passes defensed and two fumble recoveries across 13 games.

Edwards was able to record his highest tackle total since his rookie season in 2015 with the Raiders. The defensive lineman was also able to secure his first two career fumble recoveries in 2024. Edwards will enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent ahead of the 2025 campaign.

  • Texans' Mario Edwards: Set to return in Week 11

The Texans removed Edwards' roster exemption Monday.

The 30-year-old defensive lineman was reinstated from his four-game suspension by the NFL on Nov. 11, and his activation Monday suggests that he'll return for the Texans' Week 11 matchup against the Cowboys. Expect Edwards to serve as one of Houston's top rotational defensive lineman Monday night, having recorded 18 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, through six appearances this season.

  • Texans' Mario Edwards: Reinstated by NFL

The NFL reinstated Edwards from his four-game suspension Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Edwards was suspended Oct. 14 for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, but he's since served his time and missed the Texans' last four contests. The veteran defensive lineman recorded 18 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, and one pass defended through six appearances before his suspension. He's expected to play in Sunday's matchup against the Cowboys, but he must still be activated to the Texans' active roster in order to suit up.

  • Texans' Mario Edwards: Placed on Reserve/Suspended list

The Texans placed Edwards on the Reserve/Suspended list Monday.

Edwards was officially taken off the active roster after it was announced earlier Monday that he would be suspended for four games without pay for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. In the 30-year-old's absence, Tim Settle will likely start at defensive tackle in his place.
