Top Ka'imi Fairbairn News

  • Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: Drills lone FGA

Fairbairn converted his lone field-goal attempt in Saturday's 20-10 preseason loss to Minnesota.

Fairbairn drilled a 43-yarder for Houston's lone score in the second half. He's working with a new long snapper this season -- rookie Austin Brinkman -- after Jon Weeks moved on to the 49ers. Fairbairn has been one of the more consistent kickers the last few years, having converted 91.1 percent (92-of-101) of his FGA during that span. That includes 85.7 percent from beyond the 50-yard line.

  • Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: Clears up cap space

Fairbairn agreed to terms Monday on a contract restructure with the Texans for the purpose of freeing up salary cap space, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Fairbairn's restructure converts part of his $4.73 million base salary into a $3.46 million signing bonus while adding multiple void years to the end of his deal. He still remains under contract through 2026 after having inked a a three-year extension last offseason. The 31-year-old converted 36 of 42 field-goal attempts and 34 of 36 extra-point tries across 17 regular-season appearances in 2024, though he struggled in Houston's divisional-round playoff loss to Kansas City. He remains positioned as the Texans' starting kicker.

  • Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: A day to forget in playoff loss

Fairbairn converted two of four field-goal attempts and missed his lone extra-point try in Saturday's 23-14 divisional-round playoff loss to Kansas City.

Fairbairn missed badly on a 55-yard field-goal attempt, which appeared to have been impacted by the winds blowing through Kansas City. He also had an attempt blocked and shanked an extra-point try. During the regular season, Fairbairn connected at an 86-percent rate (36 of 42) on field goals, 94-percent (34 of 36) on extra points, and was tied for fifth among kickers with 142 points. The 30-year-old is normally a reliable kicker, and none of Saturday's miscues should impact his status in 2025, the second year of a three-year extension signed in March 2024.

  • Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: Twelve points in win

Fairbairn converted three of three field-goal attempts and all three extra-point kicks in Saturday's 32-12 wild-card round win over the Chargers.

Fairbairn had a shaky finish to the regular season, which was partly due to an underperforming offense, but he was back on form in the opening playoff round. Ironically, Houston's defense, which scored a touchdown and forced four turnovers, contributed more to Fairbairn's successful day than the offense. This was the 10th time in 18 games that Fairbairn registered double-digit scoring.

  • Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: Five points in Week 18

Fairbairn converted his lone field-goal attempt and two of three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 23-14 win over the Titans in Week 18.

What had been a strong season for Fairbairn took a turn over the final stretch, partly due to Houston's sputtering offense. Week 18 marked the fourth consecutive game that Fairbairn finished with single-digit scoring. Through the first 13 games, he averaged 9.4 points per game, but he dropped to 5.0 per game over the final four contests. Houston's main skill players were limited Week 18, so it's not clear that the offense has cleaned up its act heading into next Saturday's home playoff game against the Chargers.

  • Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: Shut out Week 17

Fairbairn did not attempt a field goal or extra point in Wednesday's 31-2 loss to the Ravens in Week 17.

Houston eschewed field-goal attempts on its two red-zone opportunities and never had a need for Fairbairn beyond his one kickoff to open the game.

  • Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: Misses extra point

Fairbairn converted both of his field-goal attempts and one of two extra-point kicks in Saturday's 27-19 loss to the Chiefs in Week 16.

Fairbairn pushed his extra-point miss wide right, which left Houston vulnerable, down 17-16 early in the third quarter. It was his first XP miss of the season and had the potential to impact the eventual outcome. However, the Chiefs won the time-possession battle the rest of the way, and Houston's offense couldn't cash in on its lone red-zone appearance following Fairbairn's miss.

  • Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: Another perfect week

Fairbairn converted both of his field-goal attempts and both extra-point kicks in Sunday's 20-12 win over Miami in Week 15.

Fairbairn drilled one from 44 yards on Houston's first possession then was successful from 23 yards just before halftime. Since missing a short field-goal try that contributed to a loss in Week 12, Fairbairn made all five FGA and four XPA over the last two games.
