Max Tuerk: Passes away at 26 years old
Tuerk's family announced in a statement that the 26-year-old passed away Saturday after collapsing during a hike with his parents in the Cleveland National Forest in California.
A third-round pick of the Chargers in 2016, Tuerk spent parts of two seasons with the club before being cut loose in October 2017. The former USC center went on to join the Cardinals later that season but had been out of the NFL since being waived by Arizona in April 2018.

Max Tuerk: Released by Cardinals
Tuerk was released by Arizona on Thursday, Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Tuerk was signed by Arizona in November of last season and went on to play just a single snap during the final half of the season. He isn't likely to be anything more than a backup in 2018, assuming he catches on with another team now that he's a free agent.

Max Tuerk: Signs with Arizona
The Cardinals signed Tuerk to a contract Monday, Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Tuerk, a 2016 third-round pick, proved to be a bust for the Chargers, with the team waiving him in October immediately after he was reinstated from a four-game suspension. The 23-year-old had been a member of Los Angeles' practice squad, but Tuerk will now move up to Arizona's 53-man roster after the team was in need of a depth option at center when Daniel Munyer (toe) was moved to injured reserve.

Chargers' Max Tuerk: Reinstated from suspension
Tuerk (suspension) is eligible for a return to the Chargers' active roster Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
The Chargers' must first make room on their 53-man roster, but Tuerk can retake the field after serving a four-game suspension for violating the league's PED policy. The 23-year-old will likely assume a reserve role on the interior of the Chargers offensive line.

Chargers' Max Tuerk: Suspended four games
Tuerk (finger) has been suspended four games for violating the league's PED policy, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Tuerk will have the option to appeal, but his chances of winning are close to zero. If the suspension holds, Kenny Wiggins could be the primary backup at center for the season opener.

Chargers' Max Tuerk: Injury to finger not serious
Tuerk injured his finger during Sunday's preseason loss to the Saints, but the injury isn't deemed serious, Jack Wang of The Orange County Register reports.
The Chargers were already playing without starting tackles Russell Okung (ankle) and Joe Barksdale (ankle) on Sunday, and the offensive line grew thinner throughout the day, as Tuerk and backup tackle Tyreek Burwell (ankle) exited due to injuries. While neither injury appeared particularly troublesome, any missed practice time could be devastating for Tuerk, who was in the running for a starting spot at either center or guard.

Chargers' Max Tuerk: Questionable to return to preseason contest
Tuerk injured his finger during Sunday's preseason game against the Saints and is questionable to return, Jack Wang of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Tuerk's injury is bad enough to jeopardize his availability for the remainder of the contest, but the severity is still unknown. Should he miss some additional time he would likely concede the starting center position. Tuerk has been battling for the starting spot with Spencer Pulley throughout training camp.
