Top Joe Banyard News

  • Joe Banyard: Released by Bills

Banyard was released by the Bills on Tuesday, Joe Buscaglia of WKBW.com reports.

Banyard was released by the Bills for the second time this month, this time in order to make room for new addition Kelvin Benjamin on the active roster. The 28-year-old back played primarily a special team's role with the Bills, taking the field three times this season.

  • Bills' Joe Banyard: Re-signs with Bills

The Bills re-signed Banyard on Saturday, Mike Rodak of ESPN reports.

Banyard has been released by the team twice this season, but will join the Bills once again entering Week 8. The journeyman is now the fourth running back on the depth chart, so his primary role will presumably involve special teams.

  • Joe Banyard: Released by Bills

Banyard was released by the Bills on Tuesday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Banyard suited up for two games with the Bills, receiving snaps only on special teams. The journeyman will now look to continue his career on a team in need of some extra backfield depth. The Bills will now proceed with three running backs on the depth chart.

  • Bills' Joe Banyard: Inactive for Week 2

Banyard is among the Bills' inactives for Sunday's Week 2 game in Carolina.

Banyard suited up last week and saw 20 special teams snaps, but this seems to put him No. 4 in the pecking order behind LeSean McCoy, Mike Tolbert and Taiwan Jones.

  • Bills' Joe Banyard: Likely part of backup committee

Bills coach Sean McDermott said the team will use a committee behind LeSean McCoy, mentioning Banyard, Mike Tolbert and Taiwan Jones, Joe Buscaglia of 7 ABC Buffalo reports.

The surprise release of presumed No. 2 back Jonathan Williams seems to have partially been motivated by Banyard and Jones' ability to contribute on special teams. McCoy figures to dominate snaps and touches, but Banyard could have a significant role if McCoy misses some games for a third straight year. Banyard only has 23 carries and 10 receptions since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2012.

  • Bills' Joe Banyard: Makes final roster

Banyard, a fifth-year journeyman, has made the Bills' initial 53-man roster.

Banyard sealed his positive fate with a strong preseason -- including a 14-68-1 performance in Thursday's preseason finale -- though he'll open the season as the likely fourth option for carries behind LeSean McCoy, Jonathan Williams and Mike Tolbert.

  • Bills' Joe Banyard: Strong finish to audition

Banyard carried 14 times for 68 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale. He also caught both of his targets for a total of 17 yards.

Assuming the run-oriented Bills keep five people in their backfield, that looks like it'll be enough for Banyard to make the team over Taiwan Jones and Jordan Johnson. Anything can happen on what will be one giant cut day, but a fivesome of running backs LeSean McCoy, Jonathan Williams and Banyard with fullbacks Patrick DiMarco and Mike Tolbert looks like the best bet once all the dust settles. That all said, if Banyard does make the squad, he'll start fourth in terms of fantasy value, ahead of only blocking guru DiMarco.

  • Bills' Joe Banyard: Heading to Buffalo

The Bills signed Banyard on Friday, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports.

Banyard is jack of all trades who can provide depth in the running, passing and return games. He even has the ability to serve as an emergency quarterback. However, the Bills are just filling out their offseason roster, so it's no certainty the 28-year-old even makes the team next season.

  • Jaguars' Joe Banyard: Signed to active roster

Banyard was signed from the practice squad to the active roster Tuesday.

Banyard has spent the entire season on the Jaguars practice squad and will finally have a chance to make his debut for the team. He's buried on the depth chart at running back but could contribute on special teams in Sunday's game against the Colts.

  • Joe Banyard: Released by Jaguars

Banyard was released by Jacksonville on Sunday, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post report

Banyard has never made a Week 1 53-man roster through three years in the NFL but has been called up several times after a team suffered injuries to their backfield. Should injuries strike the Jaguars' running backs, they may bring Banyard back.
