Greg Zuerlein: Cut following failed physical
The Jets released Zuerlein (knee) with a failed physical designation Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Zuerlein landed on injured reserve after Week 8 last season due to a left knee injury but was activated from the list prior to a Week 17 matchup with the Bills. He didn't attempt a kick in that game and then was placed on IR afterward, ending his campaign having made nine of 15 field-goal attempts and 13 of 14 point-after tries. The Jets announced the current move earlier Friday, but the reason for his release wasn't known until the NFL posted its transaction log for the day. New York will move forward with Anders Carlson and undrafted rookie Caden Davis this offseason, while the 37-year-old Zuerlein presumably will need to prove his health in order to earn another opportunity.

Greg Zuerlein: Released by Gang Green
The Jets released Zuerlein (knee) on Friday.
Zuerlein had one year remaining on the two-year, $8.4 million extension he inked with New York last offseason, but the team now opts to release the 13-year veteran after injuries limited him to eight appearances in 2024. The 37-year-old converted just nine of 15 field-goal tries in that span (60 percent), but he was good on 13 of 14 PATs. Anders Carlson and Caden Davis remain in position to compete for the Jets' starting kicker spot during training camp. Zuerlein is presumably recovered from the knee issue that forced him to miss the final nine games of 2024, given that he was cleared to resume practicing late in the season.

Jets' Greg Zuerlein: Shut down for season finale
The Jets placed Zuerlein on injured reserve Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg and John Pullano of the team's official site reports.
The team didn't provide word on Zuerlein's injury, but the veteran kicker presumably experienced a setback with the left knee issue that prompted his move to IR back in late October. After a seven-game absence, Zuerlein was cleared to return to practice last week and was activated from IR prior to Sunday's game against the Bills, but he didn't receive any kicking chances in the Jets' 40-14 loss. New York signed Greg Joseph off its practice squad to handle kicking duties in this Sunday's season finale versus the Dolphins. The 37-year-old Zuerlein is wrapping up the first season of a two-year, $8.4 million deal, but with no guaranteed money left on his contract heading into 2025, he'll likely be a cap casualty this offseason after connecting on just nine of 15 field-goal tries and 13 of 14 point-after attempts in 2024.

Jets' Greg Zuerlein: No attempts in return from IR
Zuerlein didn't attempt a kick in Sunday's 40-14 loss to the Bills.
Zuerlein was active for the first time since Week 8 but wasn't called into action. The Jets didn't score until after they fell behind 40-0, so they opted to go for two after both of their late touchdowns.

Jets' Greg Zuerlein: Will play against Buffalo
Zuerlein (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Bills.
Zuerlein was activated off IR on Saturday, and he will return from a seven-game absence due to a left knee injury. The veteran kicker will supplant Anders Carlson (coach's decision) as the Jets' kicker for Sunday's AFC East clash.

Jets' Greg Zuerlein: Activated off IR
The Jets activated Zuerlein (knee) off injured reserve Saturday.
Zuerlein has been on injured reserve during the Jets' last seven games due to a left knee injury that he suffered in late October. Zuerlein was a full practice participant Thursday and Friday, and he has progressed enough in his recovery to return to placekicking duties Sunday against the Bills, per Eric Allen of the Jets' official site. Prior to going on IR, Zuerlein went 9-for-15 on field-goal attempts and 13-for-14 on extra-point tries across eight regular-season games.

Jets' Greg Zuerlein: Set to kick Week 17
Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said Friday that Zuerlein (knee) will kick in Sunday's game against the Bills, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
Zuerlein's return still needs to be made official with an activation from injured reserve prior to Sunday's game. The veteran kicker has been on IR since Week 8. He tried to play through a knee injury prior to that point, but it had a significant effect on his performance, as Zuerlein has missed six of 15 field-goal attempts in 2024 after missing only three times on 38 attempts in 2023.

Jets' Greg Zuerlein: Designated to return from IR
The Jets opened Zuerlein's (knee) 21-day practice window Thursday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Zuerlein landed on IR in late October due to a left knee injury. Since then, New York has deployed a merry-go-round of kickers, including Riley Patterson, Spencer Shrader (hamstring) and Anders Carlson. The Jets also signed veteran Greg Joseph to their practice squad Tuesday, and for the moment it's unclear which of Carlson, Zuerlein or Joseph will be the team's kicker Sunday in Buffalo.
