Buccaneers' Teddy Bridgewater: Set to back up Mayfield
Bridgewater is line to serve as Baker Mayfield's top backup ahead of Week 1, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Per Fowler, the Buccaneers plan to move on from Kyle Trask, who is dealing with a shoulder issue and is slated to be let go with an injury designation. Fowler notes that in such a scenario, Trask would then revert to IR and subsequently look to reach an injury settlement with the team, which would allow him to sign elsewhere once healthy. Bridgewater last saw regular-season action in 2023 with the Lions.

Buccaneers' Teddy Bridgewater: Out due to illness
Bridgewater won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills due to an illness, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
With No. 1 QB Baker Mayfield set to sit out in Tampa Bay's exhibition finale, Kyle Trask was expected to start, while Bridgewater was in line to enter the contest after him. Now that Bridgewater isn't available Saturday, Connor Bazelak will be tasked with handling any reps under center that don't go to Trask. Bridgewater put some decent tape together last Saturday versus the Steelers, completing six of 11 passes for 85 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions after signing with the team Aug. 5.

Buccaneers' Teddy Bridgewater: QB2 for preseason finale
Bridgewater will serve as the Bucs' backup quarterback in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills, Rock Riley of the Tampa Free Press reports.
Bridgewater looked good as the starter in the Bucs' preseason game against the Steelers this past Saturday, when he led two scoring drives and completed six of 11 passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Kyle Trask will serve as the starter in this Saturday's preseason finale, and Bridgewater's and his performance in that game will play a large part in head coach Todd Bowles' decision on who will serve as Baker Mayfield's backup for the 2025 season.

Buccaneers' Teddy Bridgewater: Leads two scoring drives
Bridgewater completed six of 11 passes for 85 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 17-14 preseason win over the Steelers.
Bridgewater drew the start with Baker Mayfield resting and led three drives, with the latter two resulting in scores. He connected with Bucky Irving and Emeka Egbuka in the end zone on throws of 15 and five yards, respectively. Bridgeater also delivered accurate passes for gains of 27 and 18 yards to Sterling Shepard and Jalen McMillan in what was a successful preseason debut. Overall, Bridgewater outplayed incumbent backup Kyle Trask, setting up an interesting battle for Week 1.

Buccaneers' Teddy Bridgewater: May play second preseason game
Bridgewater was featured more prominently in Wednesday's quarterback rotation, and how he performs in a joint practice with the Steelers on Thursday will determine whether he plays in Saturday's preseason contest, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
The veteran signal-caller didn't play in the preseason opener against the Titans on Saturday after just having signed a contract earlier in the week. Bridgewater has been gradually getting acclimated to coordinator Josh Grizzard's offense, and he impressed head coach Todd Bowles in Wednesday's session with his increasing grasp of the system. When asked about Bridgewater's potential participation in Saturday's second preseason game against the Steelers, Bowles stated he wanted "to see how much work he can get in" in reference to Thursday's joint practice before making a decision.

Teddy Bridgewater: Expected to sign with Buccaneers
Bridgewater is visiting Tampa Bay on Tuesday and is expected to sign a contract with the team, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Bridgewater retired prior to the 2024 season but returned to sign a one-year deal with the Lions in late December. He didn't ultimately log any regular-season stats last season, while mostly working as the emergency option behind Jared Goff and Hendon Hooker, but Bridgewater assumed the No. 2 role during Detroit's loss to Washington in the NFC divisional round and played three snaps. If he indeed inks a deal with the Buccaneers, Bridgewater will compete with Kyle Trask for the No. 2 gig behind Baker Mayfield.

Buccaneers' Teddy Bridgewater: Officially inks with Bucs
Tampa Bay signed Bridgewater to a one-year contract Tuesday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.
Bridgewater will spend training camp and the preseason picking up the Buccaneers' offensive scheme and competing with Kyle Trask for the No. 2 quarterback role behind starter Baker Mayfield, who missed a couple days due to a hand contusion but retook the field Tuesday. Now 32 years old, Bridgewater came out of retirement last December to join Detroit's playoff push, but he didn't see any regular-season action with the team and played just three snaps during the NFC divisional round loss to Washington.
