49ers' Chris Davis: Heads to injured reserve
Davis (knee) was moved to injured reserve on Monday.
Davis was carted off the field during the Niners' game against the Cardinals on Thursday and did not return. The specifics of his injury are unclear, however. JaCorey Shepherd was signed to take his place on the active roster.

Davis was carted off the field on Thursday with a knee injury, and will not return, Matt Maiocco of the CSN Bay Area reports.
The severity of of Davis' injury is unknown at this time. He had recorded one tackle prior to sustaining the injury. Keith Reaser figures to see more time providing depth at cornerback in Davis' absence.

Davis won out as the 49ers' top nickel back during training camp, but missed the regular season opener due to a hamstring injury. In his place, Jimmie Ward moved over to defend the slot in obvious passing situations. Should Davis play this week, he'll likely reclaim that very role and allow Ward to operate exclusively on the outside.
