Chargers' Tony Jefferson: Cleared to suit up in Week 10
Jefferson (hamstring) does not have an injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup versus the Steelers, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.
Jefferson hurt his hamstring against the Vikings in Week 8. After sitting out this past Sunday's win against the Titans, the veteran defensive back logged limited practice sessions Wednesday and Thursday before upgrading to full participation Friday this week. Jefferson is thus set to return to action Sunday.

Jefferson was able to return to practice after missing all three of the team's sessions last week and their 27-20 win over the Titans due to a hamstring injury. The safety will have two more opportunities to log a full practice prior to Sunday night's contest against the Steelers.

The safety did not record a stat before leaving the contest. Jefferson entered the game after Derwin James exited with an ankle issue during the first quarter. RJ Mickens and Kendall Williamson are the other backup safeties on Los Angeles' active roster.

Jefferson finished with five tackles (three solo) and a defensed pass in Sunday's 23-20 Week 3 win over Denver.
Jefferson finished second in tackles for Los Angeles, with one of his stops coming on special teams. The veteran defensive back logged 43 of the Chargers' 52 defensive snaps in the victory, and he's taken on a big role since signing with the team off the practice squad Sept. 18. Through two games, Jefferson has posted 10 tackles and three defensed passes, including one interception.

Chargers' Tony Jefferson: Decides to play again in 2025
Jefferson re-signed with the Chargers on a one-year deal Monday, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
The safety spent 2022 with the Giants, worked as a scouting intern with the Ravens in 2023 and came out of retirement to play for the Chargers last season, recording 27 tackles (17 solo) in eight regular-season games. Jefferson started four of those contests and the Chargers' only playoff game due to injuries in the secondary. In 2025, he projects as a depth safety behind Derwin James and Alohi Gilman.

Jefferson logged seven tackles (four solo) during the Chargers' 34-27 win over the Broncos this past Thursday.
Jefferson ended up playing 100 percent of the Chargers' defensive snaps this past Thursday due to Elijah Molden (knee) being inactive and backup free safety Marcus Maye suffering an ankle injury in the first quarter. Jefferson ended up finishing with the second-most tackles on the Chargers behind Daiyan Henley (10). Jefferson would be slated to start at free safety against the Patriots on Saturday if both Molden and Maye are unable to play.

Jefferson (hamstring) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's Week 15 game versus Tampa Bay, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
Jefferson missed this past Sunday's loss to Kansas City, but he was able to log an LP/LP/FP practice progression this week. As such, he's in line to return to action Sunday. With Los Angeles' starters in the secondary healthy, Jefferson will likely play primarily on special teams unless an injury ahead of him on the depth chart requires him to log more defensive work.

Jefferson logged a season-high 69 percent of the Chargers' defensive snaps against Atlanta in Week 13, but he was then unable to suit up this past Monday versus Kansas City due to a hamstring issue. The veteran safety closed last week with a pair of DNPs, so his ability to start this week with a limited session is a positive sign for his chance of returning Sunday versus Tampa Bay. If he can't suit up for that game, though, Marcus Maye could again see more work on defense.

The veteran safety started last Sunday's win over the Falcons, played on 69 percent of the defensive snaps and made nine tackles (six solo). Jefferson got the start because Derwin James was playing slot corner. If the Chargers opt for a similar arrangement against the Chiefs, Kendall Williamson or Marcus Maye could see additional snaps in Jefferson's absence.
