  • Jason McCourty: Retires from NFL

McCourty announced his retirement from the NFL via his personal Instagram account, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

McCourty missed the second half of the 2021 campaign after suffering a foot injury at the end of October. The 2009 sixth-round pick recorded at least 60 tackles seven times during his 13-year career and registered 17 interceptions, eight forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries -- including two defensive touchdowns.

  • Dolphins' Jason McCourty: Won't play again in 2021

McCourty's foot injury is season-ending, per coach Brian Flores, Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post reports.

McCourty was previously placed on IR as a result of this injury, but it has now been confirmed that he won't return this season. The veteran defensive back finishes the season with 21 tackles (10 solo) in six appearances.

  • Dolphins' Jason McCourty: Shifts to injured reserve

The Dolphins placed McCourty (foot) on injured reserve Tuesday.

As expected, McCourty lands on IR after injuring his foot in Week 7. The team still hasn't decided if he will need surgery, but he will be sidelined for at least three weeks with the move to IR. Rookie Jevon Holland will likely step into a starting role during McCourty's absence.

  • Dolphins' Jason McCourty: IR stint expected

McCourty (foot) is expected to be placed on IR, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.

Once the team officially places McCourty on IR, he will have to sit out for at least the next three weeks. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, McCourty may need surgery to address his foot injury.

  • Dolphins' Jason McCourty: Might not return Sunday

McCourty (foot) is questionable to return Sunday against the Falcons.

McCourty had played 35 percent or fewer of the defensive snaps in the last two games, and this injury isn't going to help his chances of seeing the number of snaps he was seeing earlier this year. If McCourty can't continue in this game, then Jevon Holland would be in line to see additional snaps.

  • Dolphins' Jason McCourty: Solid vs. Colts

McCourty had eight tackles (two solo) during Sunday's 27-17 loss to Indianapolis.

McCourty only managed a combined 10 tackles across the first three weeks of the season, but he succeeded in racking up respectable IDP production against Indianapolis. The 12-year veteran still isn't in the conversation to be a reliable weekly IDP contributor, but his workload makes him a fair fill-in fantasy option.
