Top Courtney Upshaw News

  • Courtney Upshaw: Waived by Jets

Upshaw (undisclosed) was waived/injured by the Jets on Saturday, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

Upshaw signed with the Jets this offseason in hopes of resurrecting his value as a pass rusher. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear as though Upshaw will be able to do so with the Jets. Upshaw spent last season with Atlanta, where he registered nine total tackles and a sack.

  • Jets' Courtney Upshaw: Lands on NFI list

Upshaw (undisclosed) was moved to the Non-Football Injury list Friday, Randy Lange of the Jets' official site reports.

While the reasoning for Upshaw's placement on this particular list isn't clear, the linebacker can immediately return to practice upon gaining medical clearance. When healthy, the 2012 second-rounder will compete for the starting job at defensive end opposite Leonard Williams.

  • Jets' Courtney Upshaw: Signs with Jets

Upshaw has signed a contract with the Jets.

Upshaw spent the early years of his career playing outside linebacker in Baltimore's 3-4 scheme, but he has spent the past couple of seasons with a hand in the dirt at either defensive end or defensive tackle for the Falcons. Now at 272 pounds, he will return to a 3-4 scheme in New York, though it wouldn't be surprising if the Jets keep him at defensive end. Either way, the 2012 second-round pick's versatility should give him a shot to make an impact this coming season.

  • Courtney Upshaw: Visits Philadelphia

Upshaw recently attended a meeting with the Eagles, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

A 2012 second-round pick, Upshaw spent the first four seasons of his career playing outside linebacker in Baltimore's 3-4 defense, then spent the past two years at end and tackle in Atlanta's 4-3 scheme. He only has 216 tackles, seven sacks and six forced fumbles in 90 career regular-season games, but the positional and scheme versatility might make him useful if the Eagles were to run into injury issues along their fantastic defensive line. The 28-year-old probably would have a better shot at a meaningful Week 1 role if he signed with a less talented team.

Upshaw (ankle) was a limited participant in Friday's practice but will be ready to play Sunday against the Patriots, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com reports.

Upshaw will make his first appearance since leaving after the first snap in Week 2 against the Packers. He'll immediately return to his starting role, and it'll be interesting to see how he reacts to a full workload. Upshaw should be considered a wait-and-see IDP option for the time being.

  • Falcons' Courtney Upshaw: Held out of Thursday's practice

Upshaw (ankle) did not practice Thursday, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Upshaw has not played since leaving Week 2's game against the Packers with the injury, and even following a bye week, the linebacker is still unable to return to the practice field. Upshaw will likely have to log at least a limited practice session this week in order to have any chance of playing Sunday against the Dolphins.
