Magic's Noah Penda: Suffers partial hamstring tear
Penda was diagnosed with a partially torn right hamstring Saturday, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
Penda suffered the hamstring tear in Friday's 136-115 preseason win over the Heat. It's unknown how long the injury will keep the 21-year-old off the floor. However, since it's a different injury than the one he suffered in the same hamstring during training camp, the team may take a cautious approach regarding his return. Penda, the No. 32 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, averaged 3.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists over 12.8 minutes per outing in 59 regular-season games in 2025-26. While he's not expected to be a mainstay in the rotation throughout the 2026-27 campaign, his absence could open up a few minutes for Tristan da Silva.

Penda scored 23 points and shot 5-for-10 from deep in Thursday's 86-74 Summer League loss to the Hornets. While the 2025 No. 32 overall pick wasn't efficient offensively and committed six turnovers, he at least remained productive on the defensive side of the ball. Penda played sparingly in his 59 regular-season appearances with Orlando during the 2025-26 campaign, though he averaged 7.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals while shooting 40.0 percent from behind the arc in two starts. He will likely continue to battle for minutes moving ahead. Penda attempted zero field goals while recording two rebounds, one assist and one steal over seven minutes during the Magic's 113-108 loss to the Thunder on Tuesday.
Despite the small amount of playing time, Penda's minus-16 point differential was second worst on the Magic behind Jett Howard (minus-23), and the former sat on the bench for the entire second half. It wasn't a great sign for Penda, who entered Tuesday's game averaging 17.0 minutes per game since March 3.
