Collins notched 14 points (6-12 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal in 28 minutes during Wednesday's 129-108 loss to Utah.
Going against his former team, Collins trailed only James Harden and Kawhi Leonard in minutes played for LA. Twelve of those came in the final frame with the game out of reach. Nonetheless, it was a positive showing overall. Collins hit the boards well and sank one of two tries from deep. He also showcased defensive upside with three stocks, which could afford him more opportunity going forward.

Clippers' John Collins: Coming off bench Wednesday
Collins will come off the bench for Wednesday's game against the Jazz, Law Murray of The Athletic reports.
Collins started in two of the Clippers' four preseason contests, but he'll come off the bench for the regular-season opener. The 28-year-old power forward should be one of the top options off the bench for the Clippers. James Harden, Bradley Beal, Kawhi Leonard, Derrick Jones and Ivica Zubac make up the first five Wednesday.

Collins inflicted swift damage in limited minutes and mixed it up enough to make several appearances at the charity stripe. Although we can't make definitive predictions in the preseason, it appears that Collins has the inside track to receive the lion's share of minutes at the four, and his addition should reap significant benefits for the Clippers. With Collins in the lineup, Kawhi Leonard can fully embrace the playmaker role and put less of an emphasis on playing defense off the glass.

Clippers coach Tyronn Lue told reporters he "can't remember" if Collins will start at power forward, per Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.com.
Coach Lue confirmed Bradley Beal will start in the backcourt alongside James Harden but was less forthcoming regarding the forward slots. Collins is, in theory, battling against Derrick Jones for a starting role. Either way, Collins should be a sizable part of Lue's game plan, presumably seeing minutes in the mid-20s at the lowest.
