Mavericks' D'Angelo Russell: Hits for season-high 31 in loss
Russell notched 31 points (10-17 FG, 7-13 3Pt, 4-5 FT), seven rebounds and three assists across 30 minutes off the bench during Saturday's 122-110 loss to the Pistons in Mexico City.
The veteran guard led the Mavs in scoring on the night, with Cooper Flagg a distant second at 16 points. The 31 points and seven made three-pointers were season highs for Russell, who has adjusted quickly to his role on the second unit and is averaging 19.5 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 boards, 2.8 threes and 1.0 steals in 27.3 minutes over the last four games.

Mavericks' D'Angelo Russell: Good to go
Russell (knee) will play in Saturday's game against the Pistons, Christian Clark of The Athletic reports.
Russell was deemed questionable leading up to Saturday's contest due to a bruised left knee. However, the veteran point guard will suit up and likely be one of the Mavericks' top bench options once again. In his last three appearances, Russell has averaged 15.7 points, 7.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals across 26.3 minutes. He came off the bench in all three outings.

Mavericks' D'Angelo Russell: Questionable for Saturday
Russell is questionable for play Saturday against the Pistons due to a left knee contusion.
If Russell can't give it a go Saturday, Cooper Flagg would get all the run he could handle, and Brandon Williams would likely be turned loose in the second unit. Check back for another update on Russell closer to Saturday's tip-off.

Mavericks' D'Angelo Russell: Logs 20 minutes in loss
Russell had nine points (3-14 FG, 1-8 3Pt, 2-4 FT), two rebounds, 10 assists and one block over 30 minutes during Monday's 101-94 loss to the Thunder.
Russell featured heavily again Monday, playing at least 29 minutes for the second straight game. After barely touching the floor during the first two games, it appears head coach Jason Kidd has realized that there is some benefit to having a point guard on the floor. Cooper Flagg suffered a shoulder injury during the game, and if he is to miss any time, Russell would become a popular target in standard fantasy formats.

Mavericks' D'Angelo Russell: Snaps out of funk with 24 points
Russell posted 24 points (8-18 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 6-8 FT), five rebounds, six assists and three steals over 29 minutes during Sunday's 139-129 victory over the Raptors.
Russell got off to a horrendous start, bricking his first seven shot attempts, but after drilling a buzzer-beating triple midway through the second quarter, he was able to find his rhythm and turn things around. Russell had been a negligible part of the rotation through the first two games of the season, but he logged major minutes Sunday and was in the closing lineup in the win, which hints he's curried some favor with head coach Jason Kidd. It'll be interesting to see what his minutes look like Monday against the Thunder.

Mavericks' D'Angelo Russell: Invisible in opening loss
Russell closed Wednesday's 125-92 loss to San Antonio with six points (1-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-6 FT), two rebounds and three assists across 15 minutes.
Russell played just 15 minutes off the bench, a worrying sign for anyone who took a chance on him in drafts. While there had been speculation he would come off the bench, the hope was that he would still see enough playing time to warrant a spot in most fantasy leagues. Those who took a chance on him might want to wait another game or two before cutting bait, just in case the result had something to do with his limited playing time.

Mavericks' D'Angelo Russell: Likely to begin year in bench role
Russell is preparing to begin the season in a bench role, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com.
The Mavericks instead intend to deploy No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg as their starting point guard for Wednesday's season opener against the Spurs. That said, Russell should still play a significant role in the second unit as long as Kyrie Irving (knee) is on the shelf. It appears that Naji Marshall is a candidate to open the new campaign with the first unit.

Mavericks' D'Angelo Russell: Ready to face LAL
Russell (rest) will play in Wednesday's preseason game against the Lakers, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
Russell rested during the Mavs' previous exhibition contest, but he'll be available for Dallas on Wednesday. The veteran point guard is slotted to open the 2025-26 regular season as the Mavericks' starting PG while Kyrie Irving recovers from a torn ACL.

Mavericks' D'Angelo Russell: Won't play Monday
Russell (rest) will not play in Monday's preseason game against the Jazz, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
Russell will rest Monday after posting a modest line of seven points (2-6 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 3-5 FT), five assists, three rebounds and one steal in 22 minutes Saturday against the Hornets. His next opportunity to take the court comes Wednesday against the Lakers.

Mavericks' D'Angelo Russell: Modest performance Saturday
Russell compiled seven points (2-6 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 3-5 FT), five assists, three rebounds and one steal in 22 minutes during Saturday's preseason loss to the Hornets.
Russell was somewhat disappointing again Saturday, continuing what has been an underwhelming start to his career in Dallas. While he did hand out a team-high five assists, his shooting let him down, both from the field and the stripe. With Kyrie Irving likely out until at least January with a knee injury, Russell will serve as the starting point guard. He is worth drafting in all standard leagues, although managers may have to temper their expectations given the talent around him.

Mavericks' D'Angelo Russell: Deals five assists in preseason win
Russell totaled five points (1-3 FG, 2-2 FT, 1-3 3Pt), five assists and two rebounds over 15 minutes in Monday's 106-89 preseason win over Oklahoma City.
Russell will be the clear starter at point guard for the Mavericks until Kyrie Irving (knee) returns. Irving will remain out until January at the earliest, and Russell should see max minutes due to a lack of clear competition on the depth chart.
