The Pelicans announced Tuesday that point guard Jrue Holiday has suffered an orbital fracture and is done for the season.
The Pelicans announced that Ryan Anderson is out indefinitely with a sports hernia. He will also likely be done for the season.
New Orleans also announced Alonzo Gee has suffered a complete rupture of the right proximal rectus femoris (I had to look that one up; it's a quadricep). He' done for the season.
The Pelicans had previously announced that Anthony Davis, Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans, Bryce Dejean-Jones and Quincy Pondexter were all out for the season.
That's eight players who have had season-ending injuries.
Look at this:

A lot of things went wrong with the Pelicans this year, but at some point, you just have to look at the injuries and ask what it is they were supposed to do. After last game, coach Alvin Gentry put out a call for a witch doctor to ward off the evil spirits. You can look at this and blame the coaching staff, but the injuries are all over the place. Fractures, tears, ruptures. It's all over the board. It's hard to blame a shack for not being fortified against a meteor attack.
The Pelicans are likely to make changes this season, but while they struggled defensively and do have roster questions, the injuries are simply unfathomable.
