  • Dodgers' Matt Gorski: Lands with Dodgers

Gorski (hand) signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Wednesday. Nearly two weeks after being released by the Pirates, Gorski will now join the Dodgers organization to finish up the final stages of a hand injury that has kept him sidelined since late May. The 27-year-old is expected to return sometime in mid-to-late August but isn't likely to contribute much for the big-league club.

  • Matt Gorski: Cut loose by Bucs

The Pirates released Gorski (hand) on July 12. Pittsburgh opted to part ways with Gorski a few weeks after he was transferred to Triple-A Indianapolis' 60-day injured list June 19 due to a left hand injury, which he sustained during his final appearance for the affiliate May 23, according to Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. According to Hiles, Gorski didn't require surgery to address the injury, but since he wasn't expected to return to game action until at least mid-to-late August, the Pirates chose to release him. The 27-year-old made his MLB debut with Pittsburgh earlier this season, playing in 15 games while slashing .195/.214/.390 over 42 plate appearances.

  • Pirates' Matt Gorski: Bumped from 40-man roster

The Pirates designated Gorski for assignment Friday. Gorski has been on the shelf with an undisclosed injury since May 23, and it's unclear when he'll be back in action. Friday's move opens up a spot for Yohan Ramirez on the 40-man roster.

  • Pirates' Matt Gorski: Getting steady playing time

Gorski will start at first base and bat fifth in Sunday's game against Atlanta. Gorski will get his third consecutive start at first base and appears to have at least temporarily moved into a near-everyday role with Enmanuel Valdez (shoulder), Spencer Horwitz (wrist) and Endy Rodriguez (finger) all on the injured list. Horwitz could be activated during the upcoming week, so Gorski's run as a lineup regular might prove to be short-lived.

  • Pirates' Matt Gorski: Gets chance in majors

Gorski's contract was selected by the Pirates on Thursday, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Gorski had an excellent spring training and was in contention for a roster spot. He's carried that performance over into the start of the Triple-A season, maintaining a 122 wRC+ across 77 plate appearances. In combination with the struggles of the recently optioned Jack Suwinski, Gorski will now get his first chance in the majors. He is starting at first base and hitting seventh Thursday against the Angels.

  • Pirates' Matt Gorski: Reassigned to minor-league camp

The Pirates reassigned Gorski to minor-league camp Sunday. Despite dealing with a hamstring injury in 2023, Gorski was promoted to Triple-A. At that level, the outfielder posted a .676 OPS with three home runs across 65 plate appearances.

  • Pirates' Matt Gorski: Promoted to Triple-A

Gorski was promoted Wednesday from Double-A Altoona to Triple-A Indianapolis, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. This move is more about clearing out space on Altoona's roster for fast-rising pitching prospect Bubba Chandler, who has been bumped up from High-A Greensboro. Gorski, 25, was slashing .238/.296/.437 with 17 homers and 19 steals through 93 games this summer at the Double-A level.

  • Pirates' Matt Gorski: Suffers hamstring strain

Gorski exited Thursday's game against Double-A Reading with a hamstring strain, Jarrod Prugar of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. Gorski appeared to suffer the injury while trying to make a catch in foul territory. No official timetable has been provided, though he's likely to miss some game action. Gorski has only a .730 OPS across 307 plate appearances with Altoona, a disappointing mark considering he's in his age-25 season.

  • Pirates' Matt Gorski: Promoted to Triple-A

Gorski was promoted from Double-A Altoona to Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports. Given that he has played all year as a 24-year-old, his .278/.357/.599 slash line with 24 home runs and 93 strikeouts in 85 games across Single-A, High-A and Double-A should be downgraded a bit. Gorski has surprisingly played the majority of his games in center field this year, and if he can at least be solid defensively in an outfield corner, that would put a little less pressure on his righty bat. It will be interesting to see whether the Pirates add him to the 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 draft this offseason.

  • Pirates' Matt Gorski: Activated from injured list

Gorski (quadriceps) was activated off of the 60-day injured list by Double-A Altoona on Thursday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. The 24-year-old outfield prospect has been kept out of action since late-June after straining his quadriceps. Before he went down, he slashed .294/..374/.560 with 23 RBI and eight stolen bases in Double-A. As long as he continues to be a weapon on offense, he figures to be on track to join the big-league club at some point down the line.

  • Pirates' Matt Gorski: Moves to 60-day IL

Gorski (quadriceps) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Gorski landed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Altoona last week and will require a significant recovery process. The 24-year-old isn't expected to require surgery, but he faces a recovery timetable of 6-to-8 weeks. Whether he'll be able to return to game action prior to the end of the minor-league season remains to be seen.
