Athletics' JJ Bleday: Playing time trending down
Bleday is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.
The left-handed-hitting Bleday is on the bench for the third time in four matchups with right-handed pitchers and looks to have lost hold of a strong-side platoon role in the Athletics outfield. Until Denzel Clarke (adductor) returns from the injured list, the Athletics may continue to take a committee approach to right field rather than relying on Bleday or another player on an everyday basis.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Idle for series finale
Bleday is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins.
The left-handed-hitting Bleday had started in each of the Athletics' last three games against right-handed pitchers, but after mustering just one hit while striking out four times in 13 plate appearances over that stretch, he'll hit the bench Thursday. Carlos Cortes will fill in as the starting right fielder in place of Bleday as the Athletics take on Minnesota right-hander Jose Urena.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Getting regular run vs. RHPs
Bleday will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Twins.
Bleday will remain in the lineup for a third straight matchup with a right-handed starter (Bailey Ober) and appears to have settled into the strong side of a platoon in right field with the right-handed-hitting Colby Thomas. Since getting called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Aug. 1, Bleday has slashed .333/.395/.564 with two home runs and a 4:11 BB:K in 11 games.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Drives in six runs
Bleday went 4-for-6 with a two-run homer, a double, six RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Nationals.
Bleday homered amidst a second consecutive four-hit effort since he was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. He's now gone 8-for-11 with two doubles, two homers, seven RBI and five runs scored since being back with the big club. The outfield remains a bit crowded in Sacramento, but as long as Bleday is swinging a hot bat, he should continue to get opportunities at the plate.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Perfect at the plate during loss
Bleday went 4-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and three runs scored in Sunday's 6-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Bleday delivered one of his best games of the season, capping off a perfect day at the plate with a solo shot off Kyle Nelson in the ninth inning. The 27-year-old outfielder had his first four-hit effort since August 2024, but despite the standout performance, Bleday has struggled at the dish this season, slashing just .206/.298/.388 through 64 games. Sunday's outburst could be a step toward turning things around as the second half unfolds.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Back with Athletics
The Athletics recalled Bleday from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.
With Miguel Andujar dealt to the Reds on Thursday, Bleday will rejoin the big club. Bleday has struggled at the plate with the Athletics this season, slashing .191/.288/.358 with eight home runs, 22 RBI, 30 runs scored, one stolen base and a 28:57 BB:K across 233 plate appearances.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Sent back to Triple-A
The Athletics optioned Bleday to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.
Bleday was swapped off the 26-man active roster with another outfielder in Colby Thomas, who was called up from Triple-A and could settle into the short side of a platoon at a corner spot with either Tyler Soderstrom or Lawrence Butler while also offering depth in center behind Denzel Clarke. Though he was up with the Athletics for nearly a month during his latest stint in the big leagues, Bleday started in just nine of 26 games and slashed .135/.273/.324 with a 36.4 percent strikeout rate.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Homers off bench Monday
Bleday hit a two-run home run in his lone at-bat in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Angels.
Bleday could get shuffled out of the lineup more frequently now that Nick Kurtz (hip) is back from a stint on the injured list. Bleday was on the bench to start Monday, but he delivered when entering as a pinch hitter for Willie MacIver in the eighth inning. Kurtz's return will likely mean more of Tyler Soderstrom in left field, though Bleday could also push Denzel Clarke in center field, which is a place where Bleday would have a platoon advantage. He'll still need to hit his way into a job, as he's sporting a mediocre .200/.300/.367 slash line with seven homers, 21 RBI, 27 runs scored and a stolen base over 207 plate appearances this season.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: On bench Thursday
Bleday is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins.
After getting called back up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday, Bleday was on the bench for the series opener but started in left field the past two days, going 0-for-6 with two walks. With Tyler Soderstrom expected to see more time at first base while Nick Kurtz (hip) remains on the injured list, the Athletics will have a spot available in the corner outfield, but Bleday will likely need to be more productive before settling into a full-time role. Bleday will head back to the bench for Thursday's series finale while Brent Rooker cedes designated-hitter duties to Shea Langeliers and steps in for Bleday in left field.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Officially called up
Bleday was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.
Bleday will join the Athletics in Sacramento ahead of their three-game series with the Twins beginning Monday night. The outfielder produced a home run, six RBI, five runs scored and two stolen bases while going 10-for-27 in six games with Las Vegas after being sent down May 23. Bleday will help replace the production of Miguel Andujar (oblique), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Headed back to majors
The Athletics are slated to recall Bleday from Triple-A Las Vegas, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Bleday was sent down in late May after slashing only .204/.291/.365, but he seemed to get back on track at Las Vegas, going 10-for-27 with a homer in six games. With Tyler Soderstrom handling first base while Nick Kurtz (hip) is out, there could be room for regular playing time in the outfield for both Bleday and Denzel Clarke.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Optioned to Triple-A
The Athletics optioned Bleday to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Bleday has been the Athletics' everyday center fielder, but he will attempt to find his swing in the minors after slashing .204/.291/.365 with six home runs, 18 RBI, 26 runs scored, one stolen base and a 21:41 BB:K across 189 plate appearances this season. Freshly up from Triple-A, Denzel Clarke looks like the next man up in center for the Athletics.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Idle Wednesday
Bleday isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.
After going 1-for-7 with a walk through the first two games of the series, Bleday will grab a seat on the bench to begin Wednesday's contest. His absence will allow Seth Brown to start in center field and bat eighth.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Sitting versus righty
Bleday is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Bleday has a .184/.259/.490 slash line with three doubles and four homers through 13 games in May, and he'll take a seat Sunday for the second time in the Athletics' past four contests. Tyler Soderstrom, Lawrence Butler and Brent Rooker will start from left to right in the outfield while Shea Langeliers receives a turn at designated hitter against San Francisco righty Justin Verlander.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Absent from Thursday's lineup
Bleday is not in Thursday's lineup against the Dodgers.
Bleday has been the A's regular center fielder while sitting occasionally against lefties. He'll sit for just the second time with a right-hander on the mound this season. Seth Brown will take over in center field and hit third.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Homers in Tuesday's win
Bleday went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Tuesday's 11-1 win over the Dodgers.
Bleday has homered in back-to-back games, and four of his six long balls this season have come over his last nine contests. In that span, he's gone 9-for-35 (.257) with seven RBI and a 4:9 BB:K. The outfielder has gotten off to a somewhat slow start in 2025 despite his relatively steady play lately. He's at a .222/.315/.410 slash line over 165 plate appearances.

Athletics' JJ Bleday: Leaves yard Sunday
Bleday went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Yankees.
Bleday had the team's only extra-base hit of the afternoon with a solo blast to right in the fifth inning. He's now hit three home runs since May 2 and is up to five for the season. Bleday's average has suffered all season long after he saw it jump up to .243 last year. Thus far, the 27-year-old outfielder is slashing .216/.313/.388 with 16 RBI, 25 runs and a 20:34 BB:K in 160 plate appearances.
