  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Losing out on starts

Mauricio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Washington. On the bench for a third straight contest, Mauricio looks to have faded into more of a part-time role after he had been serving as a near-everyday player coming out of the All-Star break. The downturn in playing time comes while Mauricio has mustered a weak .154/.214/.154 slash line since the beginning of August. The Mets appear to be prioritizing Brett Baty and Mark Vientos ahead of Mauricio while the former two players have been more productive at the plate so far this month.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Taking seat Sunday

Mauricio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. Mauricio will head to the bench for the series finale after he started in each of the Mets' last three contests while going 2-for-11 with a stolen base and a run. With Mauricio bowing out of the lineup, Mark Vientos will pick up a start at the hot corner.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Taking seat Wednesday

Mauricio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Guardians. Mauricio had drawn nine straight starts at third base against right-handed pitching, but he'll begin Wednesday's contest on the bench as the Guardians send righty Gavin Williams to the bump. Brett Baty will patrol the hot corner and bat ninth for the Mets.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: On bench for series finale

Mauricio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. Mauricio will head to the bench while Mark Vientos starts at third base Sunday. The acquisition of Cedric Mullins at the trade deadline will limit Jeff McNeil to primarily second base, and in turn, Mauricio could be part of a committee at the hot corner with Vientos and Brett Baty.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Goes yard again Monday

Mauricio went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Padres. The switch-hitting infielder took Padres closer Robert Suarez deep in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game at 6-6, only for San Diego to walk it off in the bottom of the frame. Mauricio has homered in back-to-back contests, and over 16 games in July he's slashing .292/.358/.563 with four doubles, three home runs, one steal four RBI and 10 runs as he stakes a claim to a strong-side platoon role at third base.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Idle against lefty again

Mauricio is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels. The switch-hitting Mauricio will head to the bench for a second straight matchup with a left-handed starter (Tyler Anderson), after the infielder was previously held out of the lineup in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Reds while southpaw Andrew Abbott toed the slab for Cincinnati. Luisangel Acuna will pick up another start and could end up settling into a loose platoon with Mauricio, who has gone 1-for-15 with six strikeouts versus lefties so far this season.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Working with Soto on patience

Mauricio has been putting in work in the batting cage with Juan Soto to try and improve his plate discipline, Will Sammon of the Athletic reports. Chasing balls out of the zone is the biggest weakness for Mauricio, and he couldn't ask for a better tutor in the art of staying patient than Soto, who boasts a career .418 OBP in the majors. "He has been progressing really well," Soto said Sunday. "He's a really smart kid. He's been doing a really good job in the cage. He's trying to stop chasing a little bit, and he's doing it the past couple weeks with good takes, better decisions and swinging the bat well. He is on the right path." The numbers back up the superstar's assessment -- after a 2-for-4 showing in Sunday's loss to the Royals, Mauricio is slashing .302/.388/.512 over his last 14 games with three doubles, two homers, and a palatable 22.4 percent strikeout rate against a 12.2 percent walk rate. If the 24-year-old switch hitter continues to work the count and get better pitches to hit, he could be in line for a big second half, and potentially alleviate the need for the Mets to pursue an upgrade at third base before the trade deadline.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Absent from Saturday's lineup

Mauricio is not in Saturday's lineup against the Royals. Mauricio likely would have been in Saturday's lineup, but Angel Zerpa has replaced Michael Lorenzen (illness) as the starting pitcher for the Royals. With a lefty now on the mound, Mauricio will shift to the bench with Tyrone Taylor entering the lineup to man center field.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Losing out on playing time

Mauricio is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees. On the bench for the fourth time in six games, Mauricio looks to have moved into a utility role following the return of Mark Vientos from the injured list. With Vientos settling back in at third base, Brett Baty has been getting more exposure to second base, which has closed off Mauricio's primary avenues to playing time. The switch-hitting rookie's outlook for at-bats won't improve when Jesse Winker (oblique) likely returns from the injured list during the upcoming week to give the Mets another option at designated hitter.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Mauricio is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Brewers. Mauricio has now started two of four games since Mark Vientos returned from the 10-day injured list, and he could continue to struggle to find consistent playing time. Brett Baty is at second base and batting ninth for the Mets in Tuesday's series opener.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Clubs second homer

Mauricio went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday in a loss to the Rays. Mauricio struck out in two of his four plate appearances, but he made the most of his lone hit by taking Drew Rasmussen deep to right field in the fifth inning. It was the second long ball and second RBI of the campaign for the young infielder, who has gone 1-for-13 at the plate over his past four games. Mauricio is batting just .188 through 36 plate appearances, but he's getting consistent playing time and has started seven of the Mets' past eight contests.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Heading to bench Thursday

Mauricio is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals. Mauricio will take a seat after he had made starts in each of the last five games -- three at third base, one at shortstop and one at designated hitter -- while going 5-for-16 with a home run, a double, two walks, two stolen bases and three additional runs. Though he doesn't have a direct path to an everyday role at any one position, Mauricio's ability to fit in at three infield spots or at DH will allow the Mets to find him at least semi-regular at-bats so long as he remains productive at the plate.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Swipes bag in win

Mauricio went 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and a stolen base in Sunday's 13-5 win over the Rockies. Mauricio contributed offensively throughout the game and has now stolen a base in back-to-back contests. After going 0-for-8 against the Dodgers, the 24-year-old tallied five hits over the weekend at Coors Field. Through five games this season, he's hitting .263 with a solo home run, a double, two steals and four runs scored across 21 plate appearances.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Hitless in season debut

Mauricio went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Tuesday's extra-inning loss to the Dodgers. Getting the start at third base and batting seventh in his 2025 debut. Mauricio grounded into a double play in the second inning and looked foolish chasing a Clayton Kershaw curveball in the dirt in the fourth, but he's hardly the first hitter to have trouble squaring up the future Hall of Famer. Mauricio could be in line for significant playing time while Mark Vientos (hamstring) is sidelined, platooning with Brett Baty at the hot corner while also seeing action at second base and DH. Mauricio won't match the absurd .515/.564/.818 slash line with three homers and four steals he posted in 39 plate appearances at Triple-A Syracuse, but the 24-year-old has intriguing fantasy upside.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Still ramping up workload

Mauricio is batting .560 (14-for-25) with three homers and three steals through his first seven games for Triple-A Syracuse, but the Mets remain very deliberate in building up his workload, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The 24-year-old infielder has yet to play more than two games in a row without getting a day off with Syracuse, and the Mets are intent on making sure Mauricio stays healthy after he missed the entire 2024 campaign due to knee surgery. "We're most focused on him getting the reps under him, getting the volume, hopefully continuing to swing a really hot bat," president of baseball operations David Stearns said this week. "And then once we get to that point, it gives us something to think about." New York also doesn't have a clear path to consistent at-bats on the big-league roster for Mauricio, and it doesn't intend to call him up just to sit on the bench. "Figuring out exactly what that puzzle looks like is a real part of it," Stearns said. Mauricio still figures to provide the Mets with a boost at some point this summer, but until then he'll continue to torment International League pitching while preparing for an everyday role.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: No timeline to join MLB roster

Mauricio went 2-for-2 with two walks, a home run and two RBI for Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, his second straight game with a homer. In three games since joining Syracuse's roster, Mauricio has gone 7-for-11 with a double, two steals and a 2:1 BB:K in addition to the two long balls. Given that the 24-year-old infielder missed the entire 2024 campaign while recovering from knee surgery, however, the Mets aren't going to rush him to the majors, Will Sammon of the Athletic reports. "Where we are right now is we have a player who is medically healthy, who has checked off a lot of the boxes in the rehab progression, has worked really hard to get there," Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said last week. "And now we're working him back into [being] Ronny Mauricio, the baseball player who was on the verge, seemingly, of really breaking out at the major-league level. And that takes some time as well." New York also doesn't have a clear opening for Mauricio in the big-league lineup, and he has yet to play back-to-back nine-inning games on defense this year. Despite his hot start at Triple-A, a return to the majors isn't likely until some time in June at the earliest.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Headed for extended spring

Mauricio (knee) will remain in St. Lucie for extended spring training when the Mets break camp, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The 23-year-old hasn't had a setback in his recovery from the knee surgery that cost him the entire 2024 campaign, but the organization is being cautious with a player it still considers to be a key piece of the future. Mauricio should eventually work his way up to Triple-A Syracuse once the training staff is confident he's 100 percent, and he could be part of the puzzle at second base for the Mets later this season. Over 26 games in 2023 in his MLB debut, Mauricio posted a .248/.296/.347 slash line, hit two homers while going 7-for-7 on steal attempts, and registered an eye-popping exit velocity of 117.3 mph on his first career hit.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Will miss start of 2025

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that Mauricio (knee) will not appear in any spring games, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Mauricio missed the entire 2024 season after undergoing ACL surgery in December of 2023 before having a cleanup procedure in August. Mendoza said back in February that Mauricio was targeting a mid-March return, but it appears the 23-year-old infielder may start the 2025 season on the injured list or in extended spring training before reporting to Triple-A Syracuse.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Spring status still uncertain

The Mets are not yet sure whether Mauricio (knee) will be ready for the start of spring training, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Mauricio began baseball activities in December as he works his way back from a second right knee surgery. While his rehab seems to be coming along OK, the Mets aren't sure how Mauricio's knee will respond as he continues to ramp things up, so they're taking things day by day with the young infielder. If healthy, he'll compete for the Mets' third base job. However, given his long layoff -- he last played in the Dominican Winter League more than a year ago -- Mauricio seems likely to begin the 2025 season in the minors even if he's not limited in spring training.

  • Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Yet to begin baseball activities

Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said Wednesday at his end-of-season media session that Mauricio's (knee) rehab has gone slower than expected and the 23-year-old has yet to begin baseball activities, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports. Maurico underwent surgery last December to repair a torn right ACL and then required an additional operation in August to remove scar tissue from the same knee. The Mets had said following the latter surgery that Mauricio was expected to be ready for the start of spring training, but it's unclear whether that's still realistic.
