  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Sitting down for Game 2

Marte isn't in the lineup for Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series against the Dodgers on Wednesday. Marte will step out of the starting nine after going 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's Game 1 loss. Spencer Steer will move to the outfield as a result, opening up first base for Sal Stewart.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Contributes offense, defense in win

Marte went 1-for-4 with a single and a run scored in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Pirates. Marte, who homered in a 4-3 extra-innings win Wednesday, helped keep the Reds' postseason hopes alive for a second consecutive day. He singled in Cincinnati's first run and scored what eventually was the game-deciding run in the fifth inning. He wasn't done. In the ninth inning, the converted infielder robbed Bryan Reynolds of a game-tying home run over the right-field wall and preserved the win. With Austin Hays (back) still unavailable, Marte should continue to play daily.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Losing playing time

Marte is not in Saturday's lineup against the Cubs. Marte started five games in a row prior to sitting Thursday against a righty, starting Friday against a lefty and now sitting again against righty Javier Assad. In both cases, Will Benson has started in right field with Austin Hays in left. Marte is hitting .149 with 18 strikeouts and three walks over his last 12 games, so he may continue to lose playing time against righties. The Reds are tentatively scheduled to face only right-handed starters in their final eight games of the regular season.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Completes comeback

Marte went 1-for-5 with two RBI in Monday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays. The Reds squandered a lead in the top of the ninth inning but mounted their own comeback in the bottom of the frame. Marte finished it with a two-run single to walk off Toronto. He's scuffled the last week, batting .200 (6-for-30) with a 36.4 strikeout percentage, but Marte has delivered key hits during that run, including two home runs in addition to Monday's heroics.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Makes first start in CF

Marte started in center field and went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Dodgers. Marte, who transitioned from third base to right field midseason, made his first career start in the center field. Unfortunately for the Reds, it showed in the sixth inning when Marte misjudged a flyball that sailed over his head for a two-run double. He was later moved to right field, which has been his home on the diamond for the last month.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Doubles thrice in win

Marte went 3-for-4 with three doubles, one run scored and one RBI in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Pirates. Marte got the Reds on the board with an RBI double in the fourth inning before scoring the game-winning run in the seventh. It was a much-needed showing for the 23-year-old, who entered the game in a 2-for-18 slump through six August contests. For the season, he's slashing .277/.320/.482 with seven homers, 29 RBI, 23 runs scored and seven steals across 178 plate appearances.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Sitting for first time since July 7

Marte is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs. Marte will exit the lineup for the first time since July 7, ending a stretch of 22 straight starts during which he slashed .282/.317/.474 with four home runs, three steals, 11 runs and 10 RBI. The 23-year-old saw most of his playing time at third base in that stretch, but in the wake of last week's acquisition of Ke'Bryan Hayes, Marte may be thrust into more of a utility role moving forward that will include more opportunities in right field. He started in right field in each of the last four games, but he may end up settling into the short side of a platoon at that spot with the left-handed-hitting Jake Fraley.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Gets opportunity in OF

Marte started in right field and went 1-for-4 in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Mets. Marte made his first career start in the outfield and fielded just one ball in right field. He handled it cleanly, scooping up a groundball single and making a nice one-hop throw to the plate. Reds manager Terry Francona told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com that Marte's not ready to play everyday in right field but could see occasional work there against certain lefties.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Getting first start in RF

Marte is starting in right field and batting seventh Sunday versus the Mets. Marte has been the Reds' regular starter at third base, but Santiago Espinal is manning the hot corner Sunday while Marte is logging his first career appearance in the outfield. Per Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati, Marte began working in the outfield Saturday, as the Reds believe that having him in right while Espinal plays third base is a "stronger defensive alignment." Having Marte get experience in the outfield could also be a look toward a longer-term team construction, as prized third-base prospect Sal Stewart recently moved up to Triple-A.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Leaves yard in loss

Marte went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run during Friday's 3-2 loss to the Reds. Marte delivered a great performance from the ninth spot in the batting order, scoring the first Reds run of the game with a homer in the third and setting the table for the team's second run with a double in the seventh before being lifted in the eighth inning. It's been a small sample size so far, but the 23-year-old has impressed at the plate, slashing .295/.344/.545 with five doubles, a triple, five home runs and 21 RBI in 26 games played this season.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Rehab at Double-A begins

Marte (oblique) started at designated hitter and went 0-for-4 with a run scored for Double-A Chattanooga on Wednesday. This was Marte's first rehab game at an affiliate following a weekend spent in the Arizona Complex League. He's expected to play five consecutive games and then will be re-evaluated, per Greg Kuffner of MSN.com. Marte has been on the 10-day injured list since May 7.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Rehab moving to Double-A

Marte (oblique) will shift his rehab assignment to Double-A Chattanooga on Wednesday, MLB.com reports. Marte begin his rehab assignment last weekend in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, where he played two partial games at third base and one full game at designated hitter. Oblique injuries can be tricky, so Marte may still require several more games in the minors at Double-A and Triple-A Louisville before the Reds activate him from the injured list. Once reinstated, Marte could slot back in as the primary third baseman for the Reds.

He'll stick around in Arizona through the weekend before shifting his rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville next week, according to MLB.com.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Waiting on MRI

Marte (oblique) is targeting June 20 to begin a rehab assignment but needs to get an MRI before being cleared, MLB.com reports. Marte recently began hitting soft tosses in the batting cage at the team's complex in Goodyear (Ariz.), which signaled a rehab assignment was imminent. He's been sidelined on the 10-day injured list since early May.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Begins hitting soft toss

Marte (oblique) began hitting from soft tosses in a batting cage Friday, MLB.com reports. Marte is at the Reds' complex in Goodyear (Ariz.) working his way back from an oblique injury that landed him on the 10-day injured list in late April. The report doesn't give an estimated return date other that sometime in June. Presumably, Marte will go out on a rehab assignment before rejoining Cincinnati.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: MRI shows progress

Marte (oblique) had a follow-up MRI on Tuesday which showed further progress and he received the go-ahead to start rotational activities, MLB.com reports. The exact nature of those rotational activities were not divulged in the report, but it's safe to assume that means swinging a bat and taking batting practice. He's missed three-plus weeks with the oblique issue and is expected to require a multi-game rehab assignment.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Healing better than expected

Marte (oblique) had a scheduled follow-up MRI moved up one week after the Reds' medical staff was pleased with his progress since being placed on the injured list May 7, MLB.com reports. Marte's checkup MRI has now been moved from June 4 to May 27. The results of the MRI should determine whether Marte is able to begin resuming baseball activities.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Late scratch Tuesday

Marte was scratched from Tuesday's lineup against Atlanta due to left side pain, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. With Marte removed from Tuesday's lineup, Santiago Espinal will move to third base, Spencer Steer will shift to left field and Austin Wynns will start at first base. Marte has gone 11-for-39 with two stolen bases, one home run and nine RBI over his last 10 games.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Getting breather Saturday

Marte is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus Washington. After a blistering stretch during which he batted .471 over eight games between April 20 and April 28, Marte has slowed down a bit of late, going just 2-for-16 across his last four games. The 23-year-old will take a seat to begin Saturday while Santiago Espinal gets a start at the hot corner for the Reds.

  • Reds' Noelvi Marte: Continues hot play Sunday

Marte went 3-for-5 with two steals, a double and three RBI in Sunday's 8-1 win over the Rockies. The 23-year-old third baseman capped off a brilliant weekend in Colorado by notching his second career multi-steal game. In the three-game series at Coors Field, Marte batted .467 (7-for-15) with a homer, a double and seven RBI. Overall, he has opened the season with a .364/.404/.659 slash line with three homers, four steals, 15 RBI and eight runs scored across 47 plate appearances.
