  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Punches out six in Game 4

Mize didn't factor into the decision during Game 4 of the ALDS against Seattle on Wednesday. He gave up one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out six batters across three innings. Doubles from Josh Naylor and Dominic Canzone allowed the Mariners to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but Seattle wasn't able to generate much offense outside of that during Mize's brief time on the mound. The 28-year-old threw just 54 pitches Wednesday, but he will likely need the Tigers to advance to the ALCS in order to retake the mound during the postseason.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Starting Game 4, if needed

Mize will draw the start on the mound in Wednesday's Game 4 matchup with Seattle, if needed, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Mize will toe the rubber for the second time in the postseason if the Tigers' series against Seattle in the ALDS reaches a Game 4 on Wednesday. The right-hander pitched three innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while striking out a batter in the team's 6-1 loss to the Guardians in Game 2 of the wild-card round. Mize will look to last longer in his next outing, whether it comes Wednesday or later down the road in the playoffs.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Short Game 2 outing

Mize took a no-decision in Wednesday's game versus the Guardians, allowing one run on one hit and two walks over three-plus innings. The only hit and run Mize surrendered came courtesy of George Valera, who cranked a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. Mize struck out just one batter, though, and had thrown 62 pitches when he was lifted after issuing a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fourth inning. The right-hander should get another start if the Tigers advance to the ALDS, but manager A.J. Hinch would likely have a quick hook again.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Concedes two runs in no-decision

Mize did not factor into the decision in Friday's 4-3 loss at Boston, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out eight over 6.1 innings. He did not issue a walk. The Detroit right-hander ended his regular season on a high note, generating 14 whiffs out of his 80 total pitches to notch his ninth quality start. Mize tallied five or more strikeouts for the fifth time out of 28 total starts. The Auburn product contained the Red Sox's lineup, with the only runs he allowed scoring on single in the fourth and a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Mize finishes with a 3.87 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 139:36 K:BB across 149 total innings.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Falls to Atlanta

Mize (14-6) took the loss Sunday against Atlanta, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out five. It's just the second loss in 10 starts for Mize. The right-hander held Atlanta scoreless through two innings Sunday before he gave up a run in three consecutive frames to finish the day. Overall, Mize sports a 3.91 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP and 131:36 K:BB across 27 starts (142.2 innings) this season. He's tentatively lined up to face the Red Sox on the road his next time out.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Takes no-decision Tuesday

Mize allowed three runs on seven hits across 5.1 innings and did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-5, 10-inning loss to the Guardians. He walked one and struck out eight. Mize was in line for his sixth loss of the season before Kerry Carpenter homered in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game at 3-3 and force extra innings. It was a slight step back for Mize, who had allowed a total of three runs on nine hits across 11 innings in his previous two starts combined. On the bright side, the righty continued to display good strikeout potential. He has now fanned 16 batters in 11.1 innings over his last two appearances, and his 8.3 K/9 is a big improvement from the 6.9 mark he posted during the 2024 regular season. Mize will look to keep missing bats and try to get back into the win column in his next outing, which is penciled in for Sunday against Atlanta.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Plenty of run support in 14th win

Mize (14-5) allowed two runs on four hits across six innings of work to earn the win in Tuesday's 12-2 victory over the Yankees. He struck out eight. Mize allowed a solo home run to Aaron Judge in the first inning and then allowed another solo shot to Cody Bellinger in the fourth, but that was all New York could muster against the righty, who cruised to the win with plenty of run support. After giving up five runs across just 3.1 innings in an Aug. 27 start, Mize has responded by allowing only three total runs in 11 innings over his last two appearances, earning the win both times. The righty will take a 3.83 ERA and 1.27 WHIP into his next outing, which is scheduled for Sunday against the Marlins on the road.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Sharp in 13th win

Mize (13-5) picked up the win over the Mets on Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits over five innings in a 6-2 victory. He struck out three without walking a batter. The right-hander was lifted after only 69 pitches (48 strikes), his lowest workload since Aug. 4 -- denying Mize a shot at his eighth quality start of the season. The Tigers' caution is understandable considering he stumbled to a 5.81 ERA across five starts in August, but his spot in the rotation for September is secure, and the team may be attempting to build in some rest for him ahead of the playoffs. Mize lines up to make his next start on the road next week against the Yankees.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Takes loss in short start

Mize (12-5) took the loss against the Athletics on Wednesday, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 3.1 innings. Mize struggled from the outset -- after facing four batters, he had already given up three baserunners and a run. The right-hander's outing didn't get much better, as he gave up three runs in the second frame and another in the fourth before he was pulled having recorded just one out in that inning. Overall, Mize finished with five runs on his ledger, the second most he's given up in a game this year. He'll try to right the ship in his next start, which lines up to come against the Mets at home next week.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Fails to record strikeout Friday

Mize did not factor into the decision in Friday's 7-5 win over the Royals, allowing three runs on nine hits and one walk without recording a strikeout over 5.2 innings. Mize was undone by a three-run third inning and was fortunate overall given he yielded 14 hard-hit balls while managing just three whiffs on 87 pitches. It was a letdown after the 28-year-old notched a season-high 10 punchouts Saturday, and he now sports a 5.34 ERA across six outings since the All-Star break. For the season, he carries a 3.68 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 103:30 K:BB over 117.1 innings and lines up for a road matchup with the Athletics next week.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Fans 10 in win

Mize (12-4) earned the victory over Minnesota on Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters over 6.1 innings. Three of the four runs and half of the four hits Mize allowed came in the fifth inning, prior to which he retired 11 straight batters. That one tough frame wasn't bad enough to ruin a very impressive outing by the right-hander, however, as he tied a career high with 10 punchouts. Mize also registered his third straight victory, and with 12 wins on the campaign he's tied for fourth in the majors. Though he's had a few clunkers on the campaign, Mize's 3.63 ERA is on track for a career-best mark. He's lined up to face the Royals at home in his next outing.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Survives three long balls for win

Mize (10-4) earned the win Monday against the Twins, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks with four strikeouts over six innings. The Detroit right-hander worked around three solo homers in this 67-pitch performance to reach double-digit wins for the first time in his five-year career. Mize also managed to notch his first quality start of the second half, marking his seventh total for the season. Through 100.1 total innings, the 28-year-old has pitched to a 3.50 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 88:26 K:BB while conceding 15 home runs. Mize currently lines up to make his next start at home against the Angels this weekend.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Bailed out by offense Tuesday

Mize escaped with a no-decision in Tuesday's 12-2 rout of the Diamondbacks, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks over just 1.2 innings. He struck out two. The right-hander couldn't stick around long enough to benefit from the Tigers' offensive fireworks, throwing just 33 of 59 pitches for strikes before getting the hook in his shortest outing of the season. Mize has looked gassed over his last three starts, surrendering 13 runs (11 earned) in only 8.2 innings to send his ERA shooting up from 2.63 to 3.43, and his recent struggles may put pressure on the Detroit front office to further bolster the rotation at the trade deadline after acquiring Chris Paddack from Minnesota. Mize will try to find his prior form in his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against those same Twins.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Pushed back to Tuesday

Mize is slated to make his next start Tuesday's against the Diamondbacks in Detroit, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Mize was originally expected to start Monday's series opener, but he'll be pushed back a day in the schedule as a precaution after minor knee soreness resulted in his between-starts throwing program being delayed a bit. The right-hander's knee isn't expected to be a concern heading into his start Tuesday, when he'll look to get back on track after allowing 10 runs over seven innings in his last two outings.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Bad third sinks outing

Mize (9-3) took the loss after throwing three innings, allowing six runs and one walk while striking out four, during Saturday's 15-7 loss to the Mariners. In his last start before the All-Star break, Mize had a rare rough outing, lasting a season-low three innings and giving up a season-high six runs. It snaps a streak of nine straight starts allowing three runs or fewer for the right-hander. The 28-year-old will still enter the All-Star break with great numbers, posting a 3.15 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 77 strikeouts in 88.2 innings.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Falls to Orioles

Mize (6-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Orioles, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out seven. It was a decent outing overall for Mize, who had failed to make it through five frames in his previous two starts. The only damage against right-hander came on Ramon Urias' two-run homer in the third inning, though the Tigers could only muster one run of support, leaving Mize with his second loss. The 28-year-old Mize now sports a 2.95 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP and 55:18 K:BB through 11 starts (61 innings) this season. He's currently slated to face the Pirates at home in his next outing.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Lacks command in no-decision

Mize did not factor into the decision in Thursday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the White Sox, allowing two runs on six hits and four walks with three strikeouts over 4.2 innings. Mize limited the damage to a two-run fourth inning despite generating only four whiffs on 93 pitches and issuing a season-high four walks. After completing at least five frames in each of his first eight starts, the 28-year-old has logged just eight total innings over his past two outings. He'll take a 2.91 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 48:16 K:BB across 55.2 innings into a road matchup with the Orioles next week.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Takes first no-decision of season

Mize allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings in a no-decision versus the Guardians on Saturday. Mize picked up where he left off after getting shelved with a mild left hamstring strain earlier in the month. Both runs on his line were scored in the third inning, with Bo Naylor tagging Mize for a solo shot and Jose Ramirez adding an RBI single. Mize was limited to 77 pitches (53 strikes) in this start, but considering his injury was not arm-related, this was likely more a product of game flow than anything to be concerned about. The 28-year-old has taken a big step forward this season, maintaining a 2.45 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 41:10 K:BB across 47.2 innings through eight starts, and he's earned a 6-1 record. Mize's next outing is projected to be at Kansas City.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Activated from IL

The Tigers reinstated Mize (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start against the Guardians on Saturday. Mize landed on the 15-day injured list due to a hamstring strain a couple weeks ago, but the 28-year-old right-hander has been cleared to make his return. Mize went 6-1 across seven starts with a 2.53 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 35:9 K:BB over 42.2 innings prior to landing on the IL. To make room on the 26-man roster for Mize, the Tigers optioned Akil Baddoo to Triple-A Toledo following Friday's game.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Dealing with hamstring strain

Mize was placed on the injured list Saturday due to a left hamstring strain, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Mize will hit the shelf just two days after a dominant outing against the Rockies in which he allowed one earned run while striking out eight across six innings. According to Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic, Mize felt a sensation in his left hamstring late in the outing that was originally attributed to dehydration, but follow-up tests revealed what the Tigers are calling a "mild" strain. The Tigers haven't announced an immediate replacement in the rotation for Mize, though Keider Montero will likely be called up from Triple-A Toledo to replace him when a fifth starter is needed.
