  • Mets' Carson Benge: Getting first day off

Benge is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. With lefty Matthew Liberatore on the bump, the left-handed-hitting Benge will exit the starting nine for the first time this season as the Mets wrap up their series in St. Louis. Tyrone Taylor will step in as the Mets' starter in right field in place of Benge, who has opened his big-league career by going 3-for-17 with a solo home run and two stolen bases.

  • Mets' Carson Benge: Swipes second bag during win

Benge went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Monday's win against the Cardinals. Benge continued his fast start to the season, collecting two hits and swiping his second stolen base of the year. The 23-year-old later came around to score in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Bo Bichette. The rookie has carried over his impressive spring, where he slashed .366/.435/.439, and is quickly establishing himself as a contributor early in his MLB career.

  • Mets' Carson Benge: Makes immediate impact in debut

Benge went 1-for-3 with two walks, a solo home run, a second run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Pirates. Starting in right field and batting eighth in his big-league debut, the 23-year-old top prospect got hold of a first-pitch sweeper from Justin Lawrence in the sixth inning and drove it into the bullpen in right-center field. In the process, Benge became just the second Met in history to homer on Opening Day in his first MLB game, joining Kazuo Matsui. Benge struck out in his other two plate appearances, but that won't take anything away from a dazzling debut as he makes a very early statement that he should viewed as a favorite to win the NL Rookie of the Year Award.

  • Mets' Carson Benge: Probable Opening Day starter

Benge is expected to be the Mets' Opening Day starter in right field, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The 23-year-old's main competition for the job, Mike Tauchman, will miss out on a roster spot as a result of a knee injury that will require surgery. Benge may have won the spot outright anyway despite the fact that he has yet to make his major-league debut, as he's batted .368 (14-for-38) this spring with a 4:7 BB:K and some impressive defensive work in right field.

  • Mets' Carson Benge: On base four times Monday

Benge went 2-for-2 with two walks, a double and a run scored in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals. Getting the start in right field and batting leadoff, Benge put together another impressive performance. The 23-year-old has done everything he's needed to do so far in camp to show he's ready to begin the season in the majors, slashing a sizzling .406/.472/.500 through 36 plate appearances with a 3:5 BB:K.

  • Mets' Carson Benge: Shines at plate Wednesday

Benge went 3-for-3 in the Mets' Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals on Wednesday. The 23-year-old hit leadoff, and while all three of Benge's knocks were singles, they all came in two-strike counts as he saw a total of 19 pitches over the three plate appearances. Benge is being given a real chance to win the starting job in right field during camp, and performances like this can only help his case. He slashed .282/.389/.467 between High-A, Double-A and Triple-A in 2025 with a 13.5 percent walk rate and a 17.5 percent strikeout rate, adding 14 homers and 24 steals on 28 attempts in 116 games.

  • Mets' Carson Benge: Getting shot at Opening Day roster

President of baseball operations David Stearns said Tuesday that Benge will have an opportunity to make the Mets' Opening Day roster during spring training, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. Benge began 2025 at High-A Brooklyn but made it to Triple-A Syracuse by the end of the season, slashing .282/.389/.467 with 14 homers, 69 RBI, 85 runs scored and 24 steals between three affiliates. However, his progress noticeably stalled at Syracuse, where he posted just a .583 OPS over 103 Triple-A plate appearances. Although the 22-year-old's rapid ascent through New York's farm system will give him a chance to win the center field job in Queens, the club may want to see Benge perform better at Triple-A before calling him up to the bigs.

  • Mets' Carson Benge: Lands on IL at Triple-A

Benge was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday with an undisclosed injury. Benge had played only four games with Syracuse upon his promotion from Double-A Binghamton before going down with the injury. It's not clear what exactly he's dealing with or how long he'll be out, but the injury doesn't help Benge's already-long odds of making his major-league debut in 2025. The 22-year-old has slashed .306/.413/.504 with 12 homers and 20 steals across three minor-league levels this season.

  • Mets' Carson Benge: Bumped up to Double-A

The Mets promoted Benge from High-A Brooklyn to Double-A Binghamton on Sunday. Benge will take a step up to Double-A after batting .302/.417/.480 with four home runs and 15 stolen bases over 60 games with Brooklyn. A first-round selection in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft in 2024, Benge could be in line to reach the big leagues at some point in 2026.

  • Mets' Carson Benge: Pushing for promotion

Benge went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI for High-A Brooklyn on Sunday. The 22-year-old appears to be ready for his next challenge. Over his last 20 games for the Cyclones, Benge is slashing .382/.495/.618 with three homers and eight steals in 10 attempts, and he's drawn more walks (18) than strikeouts (15). The 2024 first-round pick is only 47 games into his pro career, but a promotion to Double-A Binghamton would seem to be right around the corner.
