  • Tigers' Codi Heuer: Optioned to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Heuer to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Heuer has permitted three runs over 4.2 innings covering three relief outings between the Rangers and Tigers this season. He's being replaced on the roster by Sawyer Gipson-Long, who is back from the injured list.

  • Tigers' Codi Heuer: Brought up to active roster

Heuer was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Friday. Heuer is set to make his Tigers debut after being traded from Texasa to Detroit on July 31. The 28-year-old appeared in 35 games at Triple-A Round Rock before the trade, logging a 3.43 ERA over 39.1 innings. Luke Jackson was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Tigers' Codi Heuer: Moved to Detroit

The Rangers traded Heuer to the Tigers on Thursday in exchange for cash. Since being sent down to Triple-A in early June, Heuer has posted a 3.63 ERA and 1.27 WHIP alongside a 28:4 K:BB in 17.1 innings. He'll now provide additional bullpen depth to the Tigers' 40-man roster, but he'll begin his tenure in the organization at Triple-A Toledo.

  • Rangers' Codi Heuer: Returns to Triple-A

The Rangers optioned Heuer to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday. Heuer is being sent down to clear a spot on the active roster for Kumar Rocker (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Wednesday against the Rays. The reliever allowed one run over 1.1 innings in his lone appearance with the big club.

  • Rangers' Codi Heuer: Contract selected by Texas

The Rangers selected Heuer's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. Heuer will receive his first look in the big leagues since 2021 after posting a 3.27 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB across 22 innings with Round Rock. The right-hander will provide the Rangers with some bullpen depth while Nathan Eovaldi (triceps) heads to the injured list.

  • Codi Heuer: Non-tendered by Cubs

Heuer (elbow) became a free agent Friday after being non-tendered by the Cubs. Heuer hasn't appeared in a major-league game since 2021 and is on the mend from June surgery to repair a fracture in his right elbow. The 27-year-old will seek out a fresh start on the open market.

  • Cubs' Codi Heuer: Month away from throwing

Heuer (elbow) is slated to begin a throwing program in mid-November, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Heuer had surgery to repair a fractured right elbow in late June and has completed the initial healing and range of motion phase of his recovery. The next step will be throwing, which will begin in about a month. There is no timetable for Heuer's return, but he would seem to have a good shot to be ready for Opening Day in 2024 if he can progress without setbacks.

  • Cubs' Codi Heuer: Out for season

Heuer underwent surgery on his fractured right elbow Friday and is out for the rest of the season, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Heuer was in the process of working his way back from Tommy John surgery when he suffered another injury in his elbow during a rehab assignment. He has not pitched in the majors since 2021, and now he will have to wait until 2024 for his next opportunity.

  • Cubs' Codi Heuer: Suffers arm injury on rehab

Heuer (elbow) was removed from his latest rehab appearance Tuesday with Triple-A Iowa due to an apparent arm injury, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports. Heuer is working his way back from March 2022 Tommy John surgery, but it's unclear if he suffered an aggravation with his elbow or if he's tending to a new injury. Before his early departure Tuesday, Heuer had largely struggled over a rehab assignment that began at Iowa in early May, posting a 7.82 ERA, 2.05 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB in 12.2 innings over 15 appearances.

  • Cubs' Codi Heuer: Set for another rehab outing

Heuer (elbow) will pitch Tuesday at Triple-A Iowa, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. Heuer is set for another rehab appearance as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery. It's unclear if this will be his last minor-league action prior to being activated from the 60-day injured list, though the next steps should become more clear after Tuesday's outing.

  • Cubs' Codi Heuer: Another rehab outing Tuesday

Heuer (elbow) will make another rehab appearance Tuesday with Triple-A Iowa, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports. This could be one of the final tests for Heuer, who struggled in the early part of his minor-league rehab stint but tallied two strikeouts over 1.1 hitless innings this past Saturday versus the Triple-A affiliate of the Brewers. He worked 1.2 scoreless frames for Iowa last Wednesday. The 26-year-old reliever is on the long road back from Tommy John surgery.

  • Cubs' Codi Heuer: Another rehab outing this week

Heuer (elbow) is on track for another rehab outing this week with Triple-A Iowa, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Heuer has struggled mightily on the farm so far, yielding seven earned runs on six hits and six walks through 4.2 innings. He's on the 60-day IL, so the Cubs can slow play the final steps of his recovery from Tommy John surgery until they see better results. There's no exact timetable for his activation.

  • Cubs' Codi Heuer: Throwing simulated game

Heuer (elbow) will throw a one-inning simulated game at the Cubs' spring training complex in Arizona on Saturday, Ryan Herrera of AllCHGO.com reports. Heuer continues chugging along in his rehab from Tommy John surgery. The beginning of a rehab assignment would seem to be around the corner, although there's no date for that yet.

  • Cubs' Codi Heuer: Scheduled for live BP on Tuesday

Heuer (elbow) will throw a one-inning live batting practice Tuesday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports. After undergoing Tommy John surgery back in March 2022, Heuer continues to progress through the rehab process and has now been cleared to face hitters. He still has a ways to go and will likely require a lengthy minor-league rehab assignment, but he remains on track to return around mid-June.

  • Cubs' Codi Heuer: Undergoes arm surgery

Heuer announced Tuesday via his personal Instagram account that he underwent an unspecified arm surgery this week. Until it becomes clear exactly what procedure Heuer underwent, it's difficult to say when he'll be back. If he underwent Tommy John surgery, he'll definitely miss all of the upcoming season as well as a substantial portion of 2023, though a lesser procedure could still give him a chance to return this year. Heuer had looked like one of the top alternatives to presumed closer Rowan Wick, but Wick's job now appears to be comparatively safe. Brad Wieck and Manuel Rodriguez look like Wick's main competition for now.

  • Cubs' Codi Heuer: Notches second save

Heuer pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Pittsburgh. Entering Wednesday, the right-hander had allowed six runs across two innings in his last three appearances. Interestingly, Heuer received the save chance after Rowan Wick was deployed in the eighth inning. Both relievers have struggled lately, but they contributed two of the Cubs' four scoreless innings out of the bullpen. For the season, Heuer has a 4.28 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 56:23 K:BB and 7-4 record across 67.1 innings between the Cubs and the White Sox.

  • Cubs' Codi Heuer: Records first save with new team

Heuer pitched two perfect innings of relief with two strikeouts to earn the save in Tuesday's win over the Reds. Heuer had to do a little extra work to secure his first save in a Cubs uniform and second in the majors after logging one last year. Since coming over from the crosstown White Sox before the trade deadline, the righty has posted an impressive 1.80 ERA across 10 innings of work with six strikeouts. The 25-year-old Heuer could see more save opportunities for the rebuilding Cubs down the stretch as the team takes stock of young players heading into next season.

  • White Sox's Codi Heuer: Helps pick up split

Heuer (3-1) earned the win in the second game of Friday's doubleheader. He allowed one hit and struck out two over a scoreless inning in a 3-1 win over the Royals. Michael Kopech made a spot start in the nightcap but was pulled after four innings, gifting Heuer a chance for his third win. The right-handed setup man has not allowed a run in seven of his last nine outings, picking up two wins and three holds during that run.

  • White Sox's Codi Heuer: Secures second win

Heuer (2-1) earned the win Friday against the Rangers, allowing two hits and striking out one across 1.1 scoreless innings. After back-to-back ugly outings, Heuer put together a solid performance Friday, successfully setting down the Rangers' batters in the seventh inning. After allowing two singles in the eighth inning, Heuer was pulled in favor of closer Liam Hendricks. The 24-year-old has only walked one batter across 11 innings this year and owns a 4.91 ERA, inflated by two poor recent outings.

  • White Sox's Codi Heuer: Woeful outing Saturday

Heuer (1-1) gave up three runs on three hits while striking out four across 1.2 innings Saturday against the Red Sox. He was tagged with the loss. Heuer was coming off three straight scoreless outings and had allowed just one run across 6.2 innings before Saturday's contest, but the wheels came off and he was roughed up by Boston. As a result, his ERA spiked from 1.35 to 4.32, though one encouraging sign is the fact that he's now on a run of five straight outings while walking anyone.
