  • Orioles' Shawn Dubin: Claimed by Baltimore

The Orioles claimed Dubin off waivers from the Astros on Tuesday. Dubin posted a 1.33 ERA over his first 18 appearances for the Astros this season before allowing 13 runs in 5.1 August innings to lose his spot on the 40-man roster. The 29-year-old will join the Orioles' bullpen, although he has not yet officially reported to the club.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Designated for assignment

The Astros designated Dubin for assignment Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Dubin has had an injury-plagued campaign, as he's dealt with separate shoulder, ankle and forearm issues at points this season. The right-hander has struggled during his time with Houston, posting a 5.61 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 21:8 K:BB over 25.2 innings. AJ Blubaugh was called up from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move, but perhaps the more important aspect of Dubin being DFA'd is that it opens up a spot on the Astros' 40-man roster. That spot will likely go to Yordan Alvarez (hand), who is close to being activated from the 60-day IL.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Starts up rehab assignment

Dubin (forearm) made his first rehab appearance Tuesday at Triple-A Sugar Land, striking out a batter while allowing an earned run on one hit over two-thirds of an inning. Tuesday's appearance was Dubin's first at any level since June 20, as he's been on the shelf for more than a month while recovering from a right forearm strain. He'll likely remain with Sugar Land at least through the weekend to continue his rehab assignment before Houston potentially adds him back to the big-league bullpen in the first week of August.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Faces hitters over weekend

Dubin (forearm) completed a 27-pitch live batting practice session Friday at the Astros' facility in Florida, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Dubin has been on the shelf since June 24 due to a right forearm strain, but he looks like he'll soon be ready to head out on a rehab assignment. The 29-year-old righty has made 18 appearances out of the Houston bullpen this season, logging a 1.33 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 18:7 K:BB while collecting two wins and six holds over 20.1 innings.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Throwing from flat ground

Dubin (forearm) recently resumed throwing off flat ground at the Astros' spring facility in West Palm Beach, Fla., MLB.com reports. Dubin landed on the injured list June 24 due to a right forearm strain but has made the first step toward a return by playing catch. He'll still need to advance to throwing bullpen sessions and facing hitters before heading out on a rehab assignment, setting him up for a possible return from the injured list in late July or early August.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Out with forearm strain

The Astros placed Dubin on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right forearm strain, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Dubin last pitched Friday against the Angels and evidently got hurt during that outing. He'll be eligible to return July 6, but given the nature of the injury, it could take him longer than that.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Getting back to mound work

Dubin (ankle/shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday and will resume his rehab assignment shortly thereafter, MLB.com reports. Dubin has been dealing with a shoulder injury since spring training and hurt his ankle in the midst of a rehab assignment. He has yet to appear in a game at any level this season, so he may require several rehab appearances before being activated.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Dealing with ankle issue

Dubin (shoulder/ankle) rolled his ankle while on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land, MLB.com reports. Dubin is working his way back from a shoulder injury and suffered the ankle injury while playing catch during batting practice. He received imaging Sunday, though the new injury is not expected to be serious.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Slated to begin rehab assignment

Dubin (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land this weekend, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Dubin threw a successful live batting practice session Monday, clearing the way for him to pitch in rehab games. The reliever missed the entirety of spring training with his shoulder issue, so he'll likely need at least a handful of rehab appearances before being activated from the 15-day injured list.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Has shoulder inflammation

Dubin will be shut down after being diagnosed with right shoulder inflammation, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. It's not known how long the shutdown period will last, but it would appear unlikely that Dubin will be ready in time for Opening Day. The right-handed reliever held a 4.17 ERA and 49:26 K:BB over 45.1 regular-season innings for Houston in 2024.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Dealing with shoulder injury

Manager Joe Espada said Saturday that Dubin reported shoulder discomfort upon reporting for spring training, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. There's no telling at the moment how severe Dubin's injury is, but the Astros will shut him down from throwing for now and see how he feels after a few days of rest. The 29-year-old righty ended the 2024 regular season with a 4.17 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 45.1 innings and is expected to take on a middle-relief role for the Astros out of camp.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Heads down to minors

The Astros optioned Dubin to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Dubin had pitched both of the last two days, so the Astros will replace him with a fresh bullpen arm in right-hander Kaleb Ort, who was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Shifts back to bullpen

Dubin has made his last three appearances out of the Houston bullpen, striking out three while allowing one earned run on four hits and one walk across 2.2 innings. Dubin made 3.1- and 2.2-inning starts on June 30 and July 5, respectively, but he was moved back to the bullpen after the Astros got Jake Bloss back from the injured list shortly before the All-Star break to fill out the final spot in their rotation. Though he notched a three-inning save May 16, Dubin has otherwise operated in a low-leverage role out of the bullpen this season, as he hasn't recorded any holds over his 17 relief appearances.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Yields three runs in start

Dubin did not factor into the decision in Friday's 13-12 win over Minnesota, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk over 2.2 innings. He struck out two. Dubin made his second consecutive start and failed to escape the third inning as the Twins collected five hits -- including two for extra bases -- off the Houston right-hander. The 28-year-old now owns a 5.40 ERA and 29:15 K:BB across 28.1 total innings on the season. Jake Bloss (shoulder) is scheduled for a rehab appearance at Triple-A Sugar Land this weekend and will likely step into the rotation for Dubin next week.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Set to start bullpen game

Dubin will start Sunday against the Mets in what's expected to be a bullpen day for the Astros, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Dubin hasn't covered more than three innings in any of his appearances in the majors and minors this season, so that likely represents the upper bound of his workload as he takes the hill for what will be his second MLB career start. The Astros don't have an obvious candidate to work in bulk relief behind Dubin, but the team could call up a pitcher from Triple-A Sugar Land ahead of Sunday's contest to provide the bullpen with another fresh arm.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Earns first save

Dubin picked up his first save in a win over Oakland on Thursday, allowing one run on two hits over three innings while striking out two. The right-handed reliever surrendered a leadoff single to kick things off in the seventh and advanced the runner on a wild pitch before they would eventually make their way home. However, Dubin cruised through the next two frames and recorded his longest appearance of the campaign in an 8-1 win. On the downside, he's now allowed at least one run in two of his last three appearances as he continues to work in a low-leverage role.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Activated Saturday

Dubin (forearm) was activated from the 15-day injured list Saturday. He only ended up missing the first 16 days of the season with a forearm strain. Dubin should pitch in low-to-mid leverage spots out of Houston's bullpen.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Shelved with forearm strain

The Astros placed Dubin on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right forearm strain, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Dubin didn't pitch in any Grapefruit League games this spring while recovering from what prior reports had described as shoulder inflammation, but the Astros are now labeling his injury as a forearm strain. The right-hander was able to face hitters earlier this week, so he could soon be ready to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Faces hitters Monday

Manager Joe Espada said that Dubin (shoulder) threw a live batting practice session Monday at the Astros' spring training facility, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Facing hitters in a live BP setting marks a meaningful step forward in the recovery process for Dubin, who didn't make any appearances during the Grapefruit League after experiencing shoulder inflammation early in camp. As a reliever, Dubin likely won't require a lengthy ramp-up period, but he appears on track to begin the season on the 15-day injured list unless the Astros elect to option him to Triple-A Sugar Land.

  • Astros' Shawn Dubin: Nursing shoulder inflammation

Dubin will be shut down from throwing for three days because of right shoulder inflammation, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Some early spring shoulder inflammation isn't uncommon, but it won't help his bid for a bullpen spot. Dubin allowed seven runs over nine innings while striking out 11 during his brief time with the Astros last season.
