  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Getting breather

Crews is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox. Crews made 11 consecutive starts in right field, but he'll yield to Daylen Lile on Saturday. Crews went 10-for-41 (.244) with a homer, three stolen bases and a 4:4 BB:K during the start streak.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Pilfers 17th bag

Crews went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Mets. The 23-year-old outfielder extended a modest hitting streak to six games as he attempts to close a tough second season in the majors on a high note. Crews sports a .258/.313/.403 slash line through 19 games in September, a step up from his .215/.287/.356 line on the year, and during the final month he's supplied two of his nine homers and three of his 17 steals.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Out of Sunday's lineup

Crews is not in the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Pirates, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Crews started the previous eight games and will receive a day off after posting a .749 OPS with two homers during that stretch. Robert Hassell will shift to right field Sunday, allowing Jacob Young to pick up a start in center.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Homers, plates four in win

Crews went 3-for-5 with a homer, four RBI and an additional run scored in Monday's 15-7 victory at Miami. The Washington outfielder tied a career high in RBI in this contest, equaling a mark previously set April 19 at Colorado. Crews also collected his eighth long ball of the season -- his first since returning from an oblique injury Aug. 14 -- with a 409-foot, three-run shot off Marlins reliever Josh Simpson in the fifth. Through 255 total plate appearances, the 23-year-old is now slashing .208/.282/.355 with 14 steals, 36 runs scored and 23 RBI.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Exiting starting nine Monday

Crews is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins. Since being reinstated from the 60-day injured list Aug. 14, Crews had started in each of the Nationals' ensuing 16 games and slashed .218/.317/.309 with no home runs and three stolen bases. Crews had mustered just four hits in 24 at-bats over his last seven starts, so he'll get a chance to clear his head in the series opener with Miami. With Crews on the bench, Daylen Lile will pick up a start in right field.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Swipes bag in return

Crews went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Phillies. Activated from the IL earlier in the day, Crews wasted little time proving he is fully recovered from an oblique strain, singling in the first inning and swiping second base. The 23-year-old got the start in right field and batted second in his first big-league action since May 20, and he'll likely get a long look in a prominent spot in the lineup against right-handed pitching down the stretch. Crews is slashing just .199/.271/.354 through 46 contests on the season, but he's flashed his fantasy potential with seven homers and 12 stolen bases.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Could return for homestand

Crews (oblique) will remain on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester through Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. The 23-year-old outfielder played full nine-inning games Saturday and Sunday with Rochester, but with the Nationals not in the playoff picture, they have little incentive to rush Crews back from the oblique strain that has kept him on the injured list since May 21. Through 11 games during his rehab assignment, Crews is batting .278 with two home runs and a 1:6 BB:K. Washington could be waiting until it wraps up its current road trip before bringing him back from the IL for its home series against the Phillies that begins Thursday.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: No timeline for rehab stint

Crews (oblique) continues to work out with the Nationals and take simulated at-bats in a batting cage, but the team is holding off on sending him on a rehab assignment for now, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports. The young outfielder has been out since May 20 due to an oblique strain, and with Washington well out of playoff contention, there's no rush to get Crews back in the lineup. Given the length of his layoff, he may need more than a few days on a rehab stint, but a return from the 60-day injured list in early August remains plausible.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Nearing rehab stint

Nationals interim manager Miguel Cairo said Friday that Crews (oblique) is close to starting a rehab assignment, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. The 23-year-old outfielder has been sidelined nearly two months due to an oblique strain, but he's recently been ramping up his baseball activities and is closing in on his return to game action. Crews will likely need at least a handful of games in the minors before being reinstated, and he appears to be tracking toward being activated from the IL in early August.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Traveling with team

Crews (oblique) is accompanying the Nationals on a West Coast road trip which runs through June 29, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. While being allowed to travel with the team is encouraging, the 23-year-old outfielder doesn't appear to be close to coming off the IL as he recovers from an oblique strain. Crews is still limited to running on a treadmill at about 85-90 percent intensity, and he isn't yet taking full swings with a bat or doing on-field work. "I know he's itching to hit some balls, but we've got to really be careful right now, be cautious," manager Dave Martinez said Monday. "He's on a really good path right now. Everything looks good. We don't want to rush him. We want to make sure that when he comes out of this, he's 100 percent." Crews has been sidelined since May 20, and a firm target date for his return won't come into focus until he's ready to begin a rehab assignment.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Lands on IL with oblique strain

The Nationals placed Crews on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left oblique strain. Crews suffered the injury on a check swing during Tuesday's game against Atlanta. The severity of the strain has not been revealed, so it's difficult to say at this juncture how much time Crews might miss. Robert Hassell was called up from Triple-A Rochester to take Crews' spot on the roster and could get a long look in the Nationals outfield, especially with Jacob Young (shoulder) also banged up. Alex Call should also see an uptick in playing time.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Homers in win

Crews went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's 10-4 win over the Orioles. Crews smacked a three-run homer in the second inning and added a single in the fourth. While the 23-year-old has provided two home runs and five steals in May, he's gone just 8-for-53 with 17 strikeouts. He's slashing .191/.257/.331 with six long balls, 14 RBI, 23 runs scored and 11 steals across 171 plate appearances this season, and the Nationals appear content to let him work through his growing pains at the plate.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Day off Thursday

Crews is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Atlanta. It's the first day off in more than a month for Crews, who has just a .412 OPS over his last 16 games. Alex Call is in right field and batting seventh in the series finale.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Homers twice in win

Crews went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, four RBI and four runs scored in Saturday's 12-11 win over the Rockies. Crews launched his first two home runs of the season, both clearing 400 feet. It was a much needed breakout effort for the 23-year-old, and he has now hit safely in four straight games without striking out. While he's still hitting an uninspiring .177 with two homers, four RBI, 11 runs scored and four steals across 65 plate appearances, Saturday's performance offered a glimpse of his potential to turn things around.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: On bench for second straight game

Crews is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. Crews finds himself on the bench for the second game in a row against a right-handed pitcher. With the Nationals providing no indication that Crews is dealing with an injury, the consecutive absences from the lineup appear to be a result of poor production to begin the season; he enters Sunday's contest with a .116/.156/.116 slash line and a 37.8 percent strikeout rate in 45 plate appearances. Jacob Young will patrol center field Sunday while Crews takes a seat.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Sitting Saturday

Crews is not in the Nationals' starting lineup against the Marlins on Saturday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports. Crews has gone 0-for-7 with one walk and four strikeouts over his last two games. He'll cede his spot in center field to Jacob Young, who will bat in the ninth spot against Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Day off amidst struggles

Crews is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Toronto, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. It's a much-needed day off for Crews, who is 0-for-15 with 10 strikeouts in his first four games this season. Alex Call will start in right field and bat eighth Tuesday while Crews regroups.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Expected to hit second

Crews projects to be Washington's No. 2 hitter this season, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. Crews made 17 starts at leadoff hitter and six starts in the No. 2 spot last year, in addition to some starts further down the lineup. However, with CJ Abrams expected to lead off, Crews projects to hit second. While Crews is a good hitting prospect, it's his stolen-base potential that is so alluring for 2025, as he stole 12 bases in 31 games last year and his 5.6 percent attempt rate ranked seventh in the majors, per Statcast.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Swipes 11th bag in win

Crews went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Phillies. Crews was a pest all night and came around to score on a homer by Joey Gallo in the eighth inning. The 22-year-old has gone just 4-for-38 in his past 10 games, and Saturday was his first multi-hit effort since Sept. 17. On the season, he is hitting a lowly .198 but does have three home runs and 11 steals across 128 plate appearances with the Nationals.

  • Nationals' Dylan Crews: Drives in run, swipes bag

Crews went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Marlins. Crews picked up a pair of hits, an RBI and a steal before the second inning was done Thursday against the Nationals. After a streak of three straight games without a hit, Crews now has multi-hit games in back-to-back days. While his slash line of .241/.308/.448 leaves room for improvement, Crews has racked up three homers, eight RBI, six steals and seven runs in his first 15 games since being promoted in late August. It's a small sample size, but Crews has started in every game since his promotion and should continue to see regular playing time down the stretch.
