  • Padres' Kyle Hart: Optioned to Triple-A

The Padres optioned Hart to Triple-A El Paso on Friday. Hart threw 42 pitches in relief the previous two days, and San Diego needs a fresher arm for the bullpen. Ron Marinaccio has been recalled to take Hart's spot. Hart (3-2) has pitched in nine games (six starts) for the Padres this season, registering a 5.29 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB across 32.1 innings of action.

  • Padres' Kyle Hart: Perfect in bulk relief

Hart (3-2) struck out two over 3.2 perfect innings of bulk relief to earn the win Sunday over the Rangers. Hart was sharp following opener David Morgan, who gave up one run on four hits and a walk in 1.1 innings. Hart had struggled in earlier stints in the majors, but this was a positive outing. He's now at a 5.83 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB across 29.1 innings over seven games. There's an open spot in the rotation even with Yu Darvish (elbow) set to make his season debut Monday, so Hart could stick around in the majors after replacing Stephen Kolek on the big-league roster.

  • Padres' Kyle Hart: Called up Sunday

The Padres recalled Hart from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Hart will rejoin the Padres for the first time since late May, after he was demoted upon turning in a 6.66 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over six starts with the big club. The lefty hasn't fared much better since returning to El Paso (6.57 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, 20:9 K:BB in 24.2 innings), but he'll get the call back to the majors with the Padres short on rotation arms. Though he won't start Sunday's game against the Rangers, Hart is a likely candidate to pitch in bulk relief behind David Morgan, who isn't expected to cover more than an inning or two as the Padres' opening pitcher. In a corresponding move, San Diego optioned righty Stephen Kolek to El Paso.

  • Padres' Kyle Hart: Slated to start Wednesday

Padres manager Mike Shildt said Monday that Hart will be recalled from Triple-A El Paso to start against the Marlins on Wednesday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. The Padres will turn to Hart to fill in the spot in the rotation vacated by Michael King (shoulder), who was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday. After breaking camp as a member of the San Diego rotation, Hart went 2-2 with a 6.00 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 21 innings over five starts before before being optioned to Triple-A in late April. The lefty has turned in a 3.07 ERA over his three starts with El Paso since his demotion, but he's supported the ERA with an ugly 1.55 WHIP and 12:12 K:BB over 14.2 innings.

  • Padres' Kyle Hart: Optioned to El Paso

Hart was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Thursday. Hart has had an up-and-down start to the season while in the Padres' rotation, but the result is a 6.00 ERA and 1.38 WHIP across 21 innings. The team's exact plans are unclear, though Stephen Kolek was in competition for a rotation spot during spring training and is on the same starting schedule as Hart.

  • Padres' Kyle Hart: Falls to Detroit

Hart (2-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Tigers, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk across 4.1 innings. He struck out six. Both runs against Hart came via solo home runs -- a Gleyber Torres blast in the first inning before Justyn-Henry Malloy increased the Padres' deficit to 2-0 with a homer in the fifth, forcing Hart out of the game. The 32-year-old left-hander has been up-and-down through his first five starts (21 innings) with the Padres, posting a 6.00 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB. Hart is currently scheduled to face the Giants at home in his next outing.

  • Padres' Kyle Hart: Hammered by Houston

Hart (2-1) took the loss Friday, giving up five runs on 10 hits over five-plus innings as the Padres were downed 6-4 by the Astros. He struck out two without walking a batter. Rookie Cam Smith did the heavy lifting for Houston, crushing a three-run shot off Hart in the second inning and then dropping a solo shot into the Crawford Boxes in the fourth. It was a tough reality check for the 32-year-old southpaw, who had blanked the feeble Rockies over six one-hit innings in his last start. Hart will take a 6.48 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB through 16.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Detroit.

  • Padres' Kyle Hart: Rebounds with six scoreless frames

Hart (2-0) earned the win over Colorado on Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out four batters over six scoreless innings. This was a drastic turnaround for Hart, who allowed five runs in just two-thirds of an inning in his previous start against the Cubs. The southpaw was nearly flawless Saturday -- the only baserunner he allowed came on a fourth-inning Kyle Farmer double. Hart's game-to-game performance is pretty hard to predict given the up-and-down nature of his results so far and the fact that prior to this season he last pitched in the majors in 2020. Fantasy managers will likely pay him more attention following Saturday's start, but it's worth noting that he still has just a 5.40 ERA and 8:5 K:BB over 11.2 innings on the campaign.

  • Padres' Kyle Hart: Wins final rotation spot

Hart will open the 2025 season as the fifth starter for the Padres, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Hart didn't perform well in his final start of the spring, surrendering six runs over 4.2 innings of work, but he did enough to win a rotation spot over Stephen Kolek. Kolek was optioned to Triple-A El Paso, meaning Randy Vasquez will take over the No. 4 spot and Hart will round out the rotation. He'll tentatively be scheduled to make his regular-season debut March 31 against the Guardians.

  • Padres' Kyle Hart: Allows two runs in spring start

Hart pitched three innings in a Cactus League contest against Arizona on Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three batters. Though this was Hart's second start this spring, it's the first one that officially counted, as his previous outing ended after two frames in a game that was ultimately called due to rain. The southpaw wasn't exactly sharp Sunday against the Diamondbacks, but he did allow the Padres a longer look at him by throwing 59 pitches. Hart averaged just 91.1 mph on his fastball, but that's in line with where his velocity has been throughout his professional career. Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union Tribune has speculated that San Diego may not have seen enough of Hart this spring to make him part of the Opening Day rotation, though Acee remarked following the hurler's outing Sunday that Hart could still be a "viable candidate" if he's able to push up his pitch count in his remaining spring appearances. Even if Hart does ramp up enough during what's left of spring play, he's not guaranteed to earn a starting role, as the Padres are also considering Stephen Kolek and Randy Vasquez for their final rotation spot.

  • Phillies' Kyle Hart: Signs MiLB deal with Philly

Hart signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Hart has logged only four career appearances at the MLB level, all with the Red Sox during the COVID-condensed 2020 season. The 30-year-old left-hander will probably serve as Double-A or Triple-A pitching depth for Philadelphia in 2023.
