  • Rockies' T.J. Rumfield: Knocks in two

Rumfield went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Monday against the Blue Jays. Rumfield won the starting first base job for Colorado during spring training, and he has started all four games while hitting exclusively fifth in the order since the start of the regular season. He's proven worthy of the role early on in the campaign, with his two-RBI double Monday marking his second extra-base hit across 16 plate appearances. Rumfield has also made contact at a decent clip, striking out four times while walking twice.

  • Rockies' T.J. Rumfield: Hits first career homer

Rumfield went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins. Rumfield opened the scoring with a 423-foot blast off Eury Perez in the second inning. The rookie has now recorded a hit in each of his first two major-league games after slashing an impressive .286/.359/.554 over 64 plate appearances this spring. He offers some sleeper appeal with Coors Field as his home venue.

  • Rockies' T.J. Rumfield: Contract officially selected

The Rockies selected Rumfield's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. Manager Warren Schaeffer announced Sunday that Rumfield made Colorado's Opening Day roster, and the first baseman has now officially been added to the big-league club. The 25-year-old is now on the cusp of his MLB debut and is expected to see regular action at first base after posting a .913 OPS with five homers in 23 spring training games. He spent last season at the Triple-A level with the Yankees, where he had a .285/.378/.447 slash line in 138 contests.

  • Rockies' T.J. Rumfield: Clinches Opening Day roster spot

Manager Warren Schaeffer said Sunday that Rumfield has secured a spot on the Rockies' Opening Day roster, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Rumfield had been attending camp as a non-roster invitee but will wind up breaking camp with the big club after slashing .286/.368/.531 with four home runs and one stolen base across his 57 plate appearances in Cactus League play. The Rockies will officially add Rumfield to the active roster shortly before Friday's season opener in Miami. Though Schaeffer didn't specifically outline what Rumfield's role will look like, the 25-year-old should be in line for regular starts at first base to begin the season, at least against right-handed pitching. The right-handed-hitting Kyle Karros could be a candidate to spell the left-handed-hitting Rumfield when the Rockies face southpaws.

  • Rockies' T.J. Rumfield: Shipped to Colorado

The Rockies acquired Rumfield from the Yankees on Wednesday in exchange for Angel Chivilli, Jack Curry of YES Network reports. Rumfield has been a quality performer the last two seasons in the minors, finishing the 2025 campaign with a .285/.378/.447 batting line, 16 home runs and a 70:108 BB:K over 138 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He appeared unlikely to get much of an opportunity with the Yankees, at least not in 2026, but in Colorado, Rumfield could compete for the Opening Day first baseman job. Rumfield is not currently on the 40-man roster.

  • Yankees' T.J. Rumfield: On fire at Triple-A

Rumfield is slashing .370/.450/.575 with five home runs, an 11.4 percent walk rate and a 12.8 percent strikeout rate in his last 32 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. A 25-year-old lefty-hitting first baseman, Rumfield doesn't have a clear path to playing time in the majors, but he's doing everything he can to make noise in his second season at Triple-A. Rumfield has the hit tool to profile at the bottom of the defensive spectrum, but he may not have the power, as he has a career .443 slugging percentage and has a .189 ISO this season while being an old-for-the-level first baseman.
