Guardians' Parker Messick: Next start coming Tuesday
Rotowire
Messick is slated to make his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Rays at Progressive Field.
Messick will unsurprisingly receive a second straight turn through the Cleveland rotation after he excelled in a no-decision in his MLB debut this past Wednesday, when he limited the Diamondbacks to one run on seven hits and one walk over 6.2 innings while striking out six batters. The 25-year-old lefty may eventually cede his spot in the rotation to the rehabbing John Means (elbow), but Messick could make it tough for the Guardians to justify moving him to the bullpen or back to Triple-A Columbus if he comes through with another strong start Tuesday.

Guardians' Parker Messick: Limits Arizona in debut
Rotowire
Messick didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out six over 6.2 innings.
Starting in his MLB debut, the 24-year-old southpaw settled in after yielding an RBI single to Lourdes Gurriel in the first inning, keeping Arizona off the board the rest of the way while working deep into the contest. With the strong outing, the rookie has made a compelling case to remain in Cleveland's rotation moving forward. Messick also arrived in the majors on the heels of a solid season in Columbus, where he posted a 3.47 ERA and a 119:42 K:BB over 98.2 innings.

Guardians' Parker Messick: Summoned ahead of MLB debut
Rotowire
The Guardians selected Messick's contract from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.
Messick will make his major-league debut Wednesday with a start on the road against the Diamondbacks. The left-hander has put up a 3.47 ERA and 119:42 K:BB over 98.2 innings covering 20 starts with Columbus this season. Messick gets by on pitchability rather than raw stuff, but the 24-year-old should get an opportunity to stick in the major-league rotation for the remainder of the season if he pitches well Wednesday.

Guardians' Parker Messick: In line to debut Wednesday
Rotowire
The Guardians are expected to call up Messick from Triple-A Columbus to start or pitch in bulk relief Wednesday in Arizona, SI.com reports.
One of Cleveland's top pitching prospects, Messick will be making his MLB debut Wednesday as he steps into the rotation spot that previously belonged to Joey Cantillo, who was optioned to Triple-A over the weekend. Messick had been a standout performer at Columbus this season, generating a 3.47 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 119:42 K:BB in 98.2 innings over 20 starts. The 24-year-old southpaw could earn multiple turns through the Cleveland rotation if he fares well in his MLB debut, though he'll be at risk of losing his spot once rehabbing lefty John Means (elbow) is cleared to return from the 60-day injured list.

Guardians' Parker Messick: Racking up Ks at Triple-A
Rotowire
Messick has a 1.33 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 31:9 K:BB in 20.1 innings over his last four starts for Triple-A Columbus.
Messick's 11.3 percent walk rate in his first year at Triple-A is the worst mark of his career, but his 33.3 percent strikeout rate trails only Bubba Chandler among qualified International League starters. Messick is a bulky 6-foot lefty with a plus changeup and a fastball that ranges from 89-to-94 mph. He throws the kitchen sink at hitters, and it's been keeping Triple-A batters off balance, especially lately. Messick could get a chance in the majors this summer, although he is not yet on the 40-man roster.

Guardians' Parker Messick: Dominating for RubberDucks
Rotowire
Messick has a 1.99 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and a 62:11 K:BB in 45.1 innings across 10 appearances for Double-A Akron.
The 23-year-old lefty began the year at High-A, registering a 3.57 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 80 strikeouts in 68 innings. He has been even better since getting the bump to Double-A and boasts a career-best 44 percent groundball rate at that level. A second-round selection in 2022, Messick is having his best season as a pro and could factor into Cleveland's rotation mix in 2025.
