  • Diamondbacks' Mitch Bratt: Heading to Arizona

The Diamondbacks acquired Bratt, left-hander Kohl Drake and right-hander David Hagaman from the Rangers on Thursday exchange for right-hander Merrill Kelly, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports. A 22-year-old lefty with excellent control, Bratt has a 3.18 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 106:16 K:BB in 90.2 innings at Double-A Frisco this season. His 4.3 percent walk rate is the third-best mark among qualified Double-A pitchers, and while his fastball typically sits in the lower 90s, he has a full repertoire and could make the big leagues as a No. 3 or No. 4 starter.

  • Rangers' Mitch Bratt: Tough first taste of Double-A

Bratt logged a 5.45 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 33:12 K:BB in 33 innings over seven appearances for Double-A Frisco. He wasn't as bad as his ERA, as 54.2 percent of his baserunners scored, but Bratt's walk rate jumped from 5.3 percent at High-A to 8.2 percent at Double-A while his strikeout rate dipped from 27.8 percent to 22.4 percent. Bratt's 22.5 K-BB% was the ninth-best mark among High-A pitchers who threw at least 70 innings, leading to his promotion to Double-A at the end of July. Bratt lacks high-end stuff, so he needs to be commanding his pitches to have success. Youth is working in his favor, however, as Bratt was the seventh-youngest pitcher with at least 30 innings at Double-A this year.

  • Rangers' Mitch Bratt: Returns from IL

High-A Hickory reinstated Bratt (undisclosed) from its 7-day injured list Friday. In his first appearance for Hickory since July 14 after he had been sidelined for six weeks with the unspecified injury, Bratt made an abbreviated start Friday against Greensboro, covering 1.2 scoreless innings and striking out three while yielding one hit and one walk. Over 15 starts for Hickory on the season, Bratt owns a 3.72 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 68:17 K:BB across 58 innings.
