  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Yields four runs in win

Sheehan (4-2) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over six innings Tuesday, striking out seven and earning a win over Colorado. Sheehan coughed up a pair of two-run homers in the victory, first to Brenton Doyle in the fourth inning before Kyle Karros knocked one in the sixth. Sheehan allowed 10 runs over 30 innings in his first seven appearances this season, but he has since been tagged with nine runs over his last two outings. His season ERA has jumped from 3.00 to 4.17 during that span. On the bright side, he generated a season-high 15 whiffs Tuesday, including 10 with his slider. Sheehan will carry a 44:15 K:BB into his next matchup, which is slated to be at home against the Reds next week.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Surrenders five runs

Sheehan allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Tuesday. Sheehan gave up three runs in the first inning and never really got comfortable after that. The Dodgers' fifth-inning rally spared him from taking a loss, but this was a lackluster performance for a pitcher that's still trying to find more consistency. He's now at a 3.86 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 37:13 K:BB over 35 innings across eight appearances (six starts) this season. Sheehan is projected to make his next start at Colorado, which may be a matchup fantasy managers will want to avoid.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Decent in third win

Sheehan (3-2) allowed two unearned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings to earn the win over the Cardinals on Tuesday. Sheehan threw 49 of 76 pitches for strikes after making a 72-pitch relief appearance in his last outing. He's back in the rotation after the trade deadline, as the Dodgers shipped out Dustin May to the Red Sox. With the Dodgers using a six-man rotation, Sheehan's spot is likely safe at least until Roki Sasaki (shoulder) returns, which isn't imminent. Sheehan is at a 3.00 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 31:11 K:BB across 30 innings through seven outings (five starts) this season. The right-hander's next start is projected to be on the road versus the Angels.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Joining six-man rotation

Sheehan is expected to be part of the Dodgers' six-man rotation moving forward and is scheduled to start Tuesday against the Cardinals, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Even with Blake Snell (shoulder) scheduled to return from the 60-day injured list to start Sunday against the Rays, Sheehan will move into the rotation after Los Angeles cleared another spot by trading Dustin May to the Red Sox on Thursday. In his most recent appearance Wednesday against the Reds, Sheehan worked in relief behind Shohei Ohtani, but Sheehan still covered 3.2 innings and tossed 72 pitches to keep himself stretched out for a starting role. Since making his 2025 Dodgers debut June 18 after completing his recovery from Tommy John surgery, Sheehan has turned in a 3.60 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB in 25 innings over six appearances (four starts).

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Could work in relief Wednesday

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Sheehan "might be" available to work in relief behind right-hander Shohei Ohtani in Wednesday's game against the Reds, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. For the first time since Ohtani made his 2025 debut as a pitcher June 16, the Dodgers aren't committed to having another hurler piggyback him, but the two-way player will still be limited to four innings in his seventh start of the season while he continues to gradually increase his workload following his second career elbow surgery in September 2023. Sheehan had started in his previous two appearances with the Dodgers, but with Blake Snell (shoulder) likely to return from the 60-day injured list this weekend to give the team six healthy starters, Sheehan looks set to move to the bullpen for the time being. The right-hander will be available on four days' rest and should be capable of covering multiple innings behind Ohtani, if needed.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Notches second win

Sheehan (2-1) picked up the win Friday, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks over five innings in a 5-2 victory over the Red Sox. He struck out five. The 25-year-old righty bounced back nicely from a rough outing last Saturday against the Brewers, tossing 47 of 78 pitches for strikes in this one as he completed five innings for the second time in five big-league outings this season. Sheehan has been an effective stop-gap for the Dodgers, posting a 4.22 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB over 21.1 innings, but he may be headed back to Triple-A Oklahoma City, as Blake Snell (shoulder) will likely need only one more rehab start before rejoining the rotation.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Rocked by Brewers

Sheehan (1-1) allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three over three-plus innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Brewers. Sheehan had given up a total of three runs over his first 13.1 innings this season. He was off to a good start until the third inning Saturday, when he allowed four runs, and his outing ended in the fourth after he surrendered a solo home run to Isaac Collins. It was a rough return to a starting role after Sheehan was used as a bulk reliever in his previous appearances. He's now at a 4.41 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB through 16.1 innings this season. He has a tenuous grasp on a rotation spot, aided by the facts that the Dodgers have used six starters when possible and Shohei Ohtani is still building up his workload. Sheehan's place in the rotation could still be at risk once Blake Snell (shoulder) returns, though it's tentatively expected Sheehan will draw a start in Boston next week.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: No-decision in big-league return

Sheehan did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Astros. He allowed one run on five hits and one walk over five innings with four strikeouts. The 25-year-old right-hander looked sharp in this 80-pitch outing, as he averaged 96.1 mph on his fastball after sitting at 95.2 mph in his only other appearance June 18 against San Diego. The only run Sheehan allowed came on a sacrifice fly by Jose Altuve in the third. After dominating Triple-A with a 43.0 percent K-BB across 17.2 frames, Sheehan looks set to stick in the Los Angeles rotation. He'll carry a 2.00 ERA and 10:1 K:BB across nine big-league innings into his next start, which is currently scheduled to be at San Francisco next weekend.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Recalled ahead of start

The Dodgers recalled Sheehan from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to his start Sunday against the Astros. Sheehan will be making his second start of the season with the big club, after he previously struck out six batters over four innings of one-run ball in a June 18 outing against the Padres following his return from the 60-day injured list. During his time in the minors while completing his rehab from Tommy John surgery and in his two starts since being optioned to Triple-A, Sheehan owns a 4.12 ERA in 19.2 innings, but his 0.92 WHIP and 36:2 K:BB offer a better indicator of how dominant he's looked in his return from the major arm injury. Now that he's set to rejoin the Dodgers and could be in line for multiple turns if the team keeps a six-man rotation in place, Sheehan makes for an appealing speculative pickup in fantasy leagues where he's still available.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Joining rotation Sunday

Sheehan will be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to start Sunday's game against the Astros, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports, Sheehan had a decent four-inning, six-strikeout start June 18 for the Dodgers in his return from the 60-day injured list, but was sent back down to Triple-A and responded with a marvelous 13-strikeout performance over six perfect frames for Oklahoma City on June 25. He followed that up with a 2.1-inning outing Tuesday in which he gave up four runs and struck out two batters. He missed all of 2024 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, but Sheehan has significant upside and would line up to make the Dodgers' final first-half start July 13 in San Francisco if he acquits himself well against Houston.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Could pitch for big club Sunday

The Dodgers could recall Sheehan from Triple-A Oklahoma City to start or pitch in bulk relief in Sunday's game against the Astros in Los Angeles, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Manager Dave Roberts has yet to fully confirm the Dodgers' pitching plans for the three-game series with Houston beyond noting that Shohei Ohtani is in line to open Saturday's game and is expected to be followed by Justin Wrobleski in bulk relief, per Plunkett. Ben Casparius is expected to pitch either as a starter or bulk reliever in Friday's series opener, and since Yoshinobu Yamamoto won't be asked to pitch on four days' rest Sunday, the Dodgers will have to break in a new member of the rotation that day. Sheehan looks to be the most logical option to fill the void, after he pitched well in his 2025 debut with the Dodgers on June 18 versus the Padres, striking out six and allowing one earned run over four innings. The Dodgers optioned Sheehan to Triple-A after that start, and he went on to strike out 13 batters over six perfect innings for Oklahoma City last Wednesday. Sheehan was much less sharp for Oklahoma City on Tuesday -- he gave up four earned runs on six hits and one walk over 2.1 innings -- but because he threw only 59 pitches, he should be capable of giving the Dodgers four or five innings Sunday if he gets called up.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Impressive in season debut

Sheehan tossed four innings in a no-decision against San Diego on Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and no walks while striking out six batters. Sheehan's start was his first MLB appearance since he underwent Tommy John surgery in May of last year. The right-hander had only modestly built up in the minors prior to being activated, topping out at 3.1 frames in his most recent rehab outing and tossing 11.1 innings total over four appearances. Despite that, Sheehan looked great Wednesday -- he induced 10 whiffs on 65 pitches, demonstrated strong control with 43 of his offerings going for strikes, and gave up just a single run. The righty will almost certainly need multiple more starts before he's ready to handle a full workload, but this was about as good an outing as could have been asked for given Sheehan's extended layoff and the quality of his opponent. He's projected to face the Rockies on the road in his next start.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Making season debut Wednesday

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Sheehan (elbow) will be activated from the 60-day injured list to start Wednesday's game against the Padres, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. As expected, Sheehan has received clearance to make his 2025 debut for the Dodgers this week after completely his recovery from May 2024 Tommy John surgery. The right-hander was cleared to kick off his rehab assignment just over a year after the procedure and was sharp over his four outings in the minors, logging a 3.97 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 21:1 K:BB in 11.1 innings. In his most recent start for Triple-A Oklahoma City last Thursday, Sheehan tossed 3.1 innings and 63 pitches, so he'll likely be operating with a workload restriction Wednesday. While Sheehan should be in line for multiple turns through the Dodgers' rotation, he'll be at risk of a move to the bullpen or a demotion to Triple-A once the likes of Tyler Glasnow (shoulder), Blake Snell (shoulder), Tony Gonsolin (elbow) and Roki Sasaki (shoulder) return from the IL.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Shines in first two rehab starts

Sheehan (elbow) struck out five batters and allowed two hits and no walks over three scoreless innings in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Oklahoma City. On the comeback trail following his May 2024 Tommy John surgery, Sheehan was cleared to kick off his rehab assignment last Monday. After striking out five batters over two perfect innings in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League in his first rehab outing, Sheehan shifted his assignment to Oklahoma City and was unfazed by the jump in competition. He induced 10 swings and misses on his 39 pitches Sunday and retired the first eight batters of the day, with the only damage against him being a bloop single and an infield single. Sheehan will likely need at least two more rehab starts to get fully stretched back out for a starting role, and if he continues to excel in his subsequent outings in the minors, he could garner consideration for a spot in the Dodgers' six-man rotation once he's activated from the 60-day injured list.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Ready for rehab stint

Sheehan (elbow) was sent to the Arizona Complex League to begin a rehab assignment Monday, per MLB's transactions log. It was recently reported that Sheehan would likely be ready for a rehab assignment at some point in June, but he appears to be ahead of schedule. The 25-year-old was initially placed on the 15-day injured list March 17 before being transferred to the 60-day IL later that month while continuing to work back from Tommy John surgery with an internal brace procedure. Expect Sheehan to make several minor-league appearances as he begins to build back up from a significant injury.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Nearing rehab assignment

Sheehan (elbow) could begin a minor-league rehab assignment sometime in June, MLB.com reports. Sheehan has been throwing to live hitters at the Dodgers' complex in Arizona as he works his way back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent last May. It's not yet clear at what point in June the right-handed hurler could kick off a rehab stint, and he's not expected to be ready to be activated off the 60-day injured list until around the All-Star break.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Moved to 60-day IL

The Dodgers transferred Sheehan (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Thursday. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Noah Davis. Sheehan will be sidelined until around midseason as he continues his rehab from an internal brace procedure.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Moved to 15-day injured list

Sheehan (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. Sheehan has been cleared to throw off a mound after undergoing surgery on his right forearm in May of 2024, though he's not expected to embark on a rehab assignment for a few more months, likely in May or June. The club should have a better idea on a return date as he continues to progress through his rehab.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Throwing off mound

Sheehan (elbow) has resumed throwing off a mound over the offseason, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Sheehan didn't pitch at all last season due to a forearm injury, and he ultimately underwent an internal brace procedure in May to address the issue. The 25-year-old righty aims to begin a minor-league rehab assignment sometime in May or June, with a return from the injured list likely to come closer to the All-Star break. The Dodgers have done a lot this winter to upgrade their pitching staff, however, so there's no guarantee he'll have a spot waiting for him in the majors once he's healthy.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

The Dodgers announced that Sheehan (elbow) underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery Wednesday. Sheehan has been on the shelf all season with what the Dodgers had initially classified as right forearm inflammation. He had been cleared to face hitters in late March, only for the Dodgers to shut him down in mid-April after he experienced a setback in his recovery. A month after being shut down, the 24-year-old still wasn't responding to rest and rehab as well as the Dodgers had hoped, and after meeting with Dr. Neal ElAttrache, Sheehan was recommended for Tommy John surgery. He'll miss the rest of the 2024 season and a significant chunk of the 2025 season while he recovers from the procedure.
