  • Guardians' Juan Brito: Undergoes hamstring surgery

Brito will be sidelined for 8-to-12 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair his left hamstring, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Brito came into spring training with a chance to win the Guardians' second-base job, but he spent all season in the minors and was limited to only 24 games at Triple-A Columbus due to thumb and now hamstring surgeries. The 23-year-old should be ready to report to spring training without any restrictions.

  • Guardians' Juan Brito: Executing baseball activities

Brito (hamstring) is running, fielding and hitting following a significant left hamstring strain sustained in early July, MLB.com reports. It's been six weeks since Brito landed on the injured list, and the estimated recovery time for strains like his is between eight and 12 weeks. That gives him a chance to return to action at some point in September. The hamstring and an earlier thumb injury put a damper on an important year of development for Brito, who has played 24 games at Triple-A Columbus and another seven in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

  • Guardians' Juan Brito: Set for extended absence

Guardians team president Chris Antonetti said July 20 that Brito is expected to be out for "weeks" due to a "significant" left hamstring strain, MLB.com reports. Brito sustained the injury while running to first base in a July 4 game with Triple-A Columbus and was placed on the affiliate's injured list a few days later. Based on Antonetti's comments, Brito appears unlikely to make his return from the IL until late August or early September.

  • Guardians' Juan Brito: Nearing rehab assignment

Brito (thumb) is expected to begin a rehab assignment with the rookie-level Arizona Complex League Guardians later this week, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Brito landed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Columbus after having surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb in late April. He will eventually rejoin Columbus' roster after knocking some rust off in the ACL.

  • Guardians' Juan Brito: Out 8-to-12 weeks after surgery

Brito will be sidelined 8-to-12 weeks after having surgery Friday to repair a high-grade ligament sprain in his right thumb, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Brito suffered the injury last week while sliding into a base at Triple-A Columbus. The 23-year-old infielder had been off to a nice start this season with Columbus, slashing .291/.406/.491 with two home runs, four steals and a 10:11 K:BB.

  • Guardians' Juan Brito: Day-to-day with wrist injury

Brito suffered a wrist injury April 17 and has not played since, MLB.com reports. Brito, who hurt the wrist while sliding, underwent X-rays which came back negative and is considered day-to-day at Triple-A Columbus. Brito is batting .291/.406/.491 with two home runs, five doubles, 10 RBI, four steals and 11 runs scored over 16 games for the Clippers.

  • Guardians' Juan Brito: Optioned to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned Brito to Triple-A Columbus on Friday. The 23-year-old posted a .177/.222/.529 slash line with four homers over 13 games in spring training and was unable to earn a place on the Opening Day roster. Brito still has a strong chance to make his MLB debut at some point in 2025, especially if he can replicate or improve upon the .808 OPS he produced at Triple-A last year.

  • Guardians' Juan Brito: In running for second base job

The Guardians "continue to express their extreme excitement" at getting a look at Brito at second base this spring, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Joe Noga of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported in January that Brito might be a long shot to win the second base job. However, Bell has listed Brito as the starter at the keystone in her first Opening Day roster projection, though she acknowledges the competition will be "back and forth between Brito and Gabriel Arias all spring." The 23-year-old Brito slashed .256/.365/.443 with 21 homers and 13 steals in 2024 at Triple-A Columbus and offers the most offensive upside out out Cleveland's second-base candidates. Tyler Freeman, Daniel Schneemann and Angel Martinez are also in the mix to replace Andres Gimenez, who was traded to the Blue Jays.

  • Guardians' Juan Brito: Promoted to Triple-A

Brito was promoted to Triple-A Columbus on Monday. Brito -- one of Cleveland's top prospects -- posted an .817 OPS at the Double-A level this season, and he will get a chance to show what he can do at the top level of the minors before the campaign comes to a close.
