  • Reds' Cam Collier: Hitting for average at Double-A

Collier is hitting .303 with zero home runs in 20 games for Double-A Chattanooga. Collier missed the first six weeks of the minor-league season while recovering from left thumb surgery. He slashed .338/.443/.514 with two home runs, a 15.9 percent walk rate and a 20.5 percent strikeout rate across 21 games while rehabbing and easing into things in the lower levels before getting promoted to Double-A on June 17. Collier has controlled the zone at Double-A (0.83 BB/K), but his power has been lacking since returning from the thumb issue. He is one of the youngest hitters at Double-A and won't turn 21 until November.

  • Reds' Cam Collier: Begins brief stay in Dayton

Collier started at third base and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a double for High-A Dayton on Wednesday. Collier, who was activated off the 60-day injured list Tuesday, made his season debut Wednesday. His stay with the Dragons is expected to a brief one, per the High-A Dayton website. Collier will soon move on to Double-A Chattanooga, where he had been expected to open the season prior to the thumb injury that landed him on the IL.

  • Reds' Cam Collier: Activated from 60-day IL

High-A Dayton activated Collier (thumb) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday. Collier was not in the lineup for Dayton's 5-4 loss to Lansing on Tuesday, but he appears to be healthy again after suffering a torn UCL in his left thumb during spring training and requiring surgery. He was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on May 19, playing in 10 games and accumulating 42 plate appearances. Though he'll remain with Dayton for the time being, MLB.com relays that Collier is expected to move up to Double-A Chattanooga in short order.

  • Reds' Cam Collier: Conducting rehab in ACL

Collier (thumb) is batting .394/.524/.636 over 42 plate appearances across 10 rehab games in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Collier began the assignment May 19 and will eventually return to action for High-A Dayton after having spent all season on the injured list while recovering from left thumb surgery. He's played mostly at first base (seven games) during his rehab assignment, with one start coming at third base and two at designated hitter. Collier spent most of his first three seasons of professional ball at third base, but the organization may be preparing him to move across the diamond in 2025.

  • Reds' Cam Collier: Requires thumb surgery

Reds manager Terry Francona announced that Collier is scheduled to have surgery Thursday on his injured left thumb, Pat Brennan of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Collier is expected to resume hitting in 4-to-6 weeks. The top prospect was reassigned to minor-league camp Wednesday. Collier is coming off a 2024 season in which he slashed .248/.355/.443 with 20 home runs over 507 plate appearances at High-A Dayton. The thumb surgery shouldn't dramatically affect Collier's long-term outlook, but it could inhibit his power production once he's able to make his 2025 debut in late April or early May.

  • Reds' Cam Collier: Managing thumb issue

Collier, who got reassigned to the Reds' minor-league camp Wednesday, tweaked his thumb last weekend and might be sidelined for a while, Dave Clark of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Collier was scheduled for further evaluations Thursday. He finished 2024 at High-A Dayton and had a .798 OPS in 119 games, and it hasn't been decided yet whether he'll return there or move up to Double-A Chattanooga.

  • Reds' Cam Collier: Reassigned to minors camp

The Reds reassigned Collier to minor-league camp Wednesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The top prospect saw some Cactus League action, going 1-for-8 at the dish, but he never had a real chance to make the Opening Day roster. Collier, 20, posted a .798 OPS with 20 homers at High-A Dayton in 2024 and could either head back there to start this season or move up to Double-A Chattanooga.

  • Reds' Cam Collier: Making debut in big-league camp

Collier received an invite to major-league spring training, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. Collier, who turned 20 during the offseason, batted .248/.355/.443 with 20 home runs and 74 RBI over 119 games at High-A Dayton in 2024. There was variance in his monthly splits, and the left-handed batter had trouble against southpaws (.174/.283/.312), but Collier showed his raw power and ability to homer to all fields.

  • Reds' Cam Collier: Carries Dayton into playoffs

Collier finished the regular season with 20 home runs, 74 RBI, 72 runs and a line of .248/.355/.443 over 119 games for High-A Dayton. Collier, the Reds' first-round draft pick in 2022, helped carry the Dragons into the postseason, which started Tuesday. He hinted at more pop during the second half of 2023, when he had six home runs over 111 games, and that power developed in 2024. Still just 19, Collier has more growth ahead and should continue to showcase his power.

  • Reds' Cam Collier: Midwest League HR leader

Collier is slashing .297/.337/.582 with a league-high seven home runs and 25 RBI for High-A Dayton of the Midwest League. Collier is off to a promising start in 2024, unlike his introduction to affiliated ball last year. He slashed just .218/.318/.328 with four home runs in 78 games through last July before hitting .311 with a pair of homers over the final 34 games for Low-A Daytona. Collier launched his seventh home run in his 19th game for the Dragons on April 28, beating the six he had over 111 games last season. The 19-year-old is pushing 6-foot-3 and is beyond his listed 210 pounds, so he may have to work on his conditioning to stay at third base.

  • Reds' Cam Collier: Homers in Breakout game

Collier went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in Thursday's Spring Breakout game against the Rangers. Collier showed opposite field power in taking a fastball out to left field, then struck out twice on fastballs in his next two plate appearances. Keith Law of The Athletic said the 2022 first-round pick has gotten thick around the middle, and it could be impacting Collier's defense at third; he was slow on a grounder then rushed a throw and pulled the first baseman off the bag. Collier has appeared in two Cactus League games, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

  • Reds' Cam Collier: Complex League season complete

Collier hit .370/.514/.630 with two homers in 35 plate appearances for the Reds' Arizona Complex League team, with their season ending last week, C.Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. Collier, the Reds' first-round draft pick in the 2022 draft, had a reputation for a good batting eye and followed that up in his professional debut by having more walks than strikeouts. He doesn't turn 18 until November, so Collier should be one of the youngest hitters in full-season ball in 2023.
