  • Guardians' Johnathan Rodriguez: Demoted to Columbus

The Guardians optioned Rodriguez to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday. Rodriguez will end up back on the roster at Columbus following C.J. Kayfus' promotion from Triple-A. Rodriguez has slashed .324/.408/.494 in 46 games with the Clippers, and if he recaptures his swing upon returning to the minors, he may find himself back in Cleveland before the end of the year.

  • Guardians' Johnathan Rodriguez: Back on bench in Kwan's return

Rodriguez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Orioles. Rodriguez went 2-for-12 with a solo home run, a walk and a double while starting in each of the Guardians' previous four contests, but he'll hit the bench Monday as Steven Kwan (wrist) makes his return to the lineup following a three-game absence to begin the second half. So long as Kwan remains healthy, Rodriguez looks like he'll be limited to the short side of a platoon in right field with Nolan Jones.

  • Guardians' Johnathan Rodriguez: First multi-RBI game of 2025

Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's 4-2 win over Houston. The 25-year-old righty-hitting outfielder drew the start versus southpaw Brandon Walter and delivered his first multi-RBI game of the season. With Lane Thomas (foot) on the injured list, the Guardians do have some extra reps to fill in the outfield for the time being. That said, Rodriguez has plenty of work to do if he wants to earn more playing time -- he's slashing a pitiful .152/.204/.239 with three home runs, two doubles, one triple and three RBI over 49 plate appearances.

  • Guardians' Johnathan Rodriguez: Goes hitless in loss

Rodriguez started in right field and went 0-for-3 in Friday's 5-1 loss to the Athletics. Rodriguez was called up earlier this month for a second stint in the majors, with the Guardians hoping that he could solve the season-long production issues in right field. He's been unable to fulfill the organization's hope, batting .160 (4-for-25) with a .472 OPS across 26 plate appearances.

  • Guardians' Johnathan Rodriguez: Back in majors

The Guardians recalled Rodriguez from Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. The 25-year-old made Cleveland's Opening Day roster but accumulated just five plate appearances before being demoted in early April. Rodriguez has raked for Columbus since being sent down with seven homers and a .324/.408/.494 slash line in 46 games, and he seems set for the small side of an outfield platoon with Nolan Jones.

  • Guardians' Johnathan Rodriguez: Optioned to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned Rodriguez to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Rodriguez cracked the Guardians' Opening Day roster but has played sparingly, making just one start. He's being replaced on the roster by Angel Martinez, who was called up from Columbus.

  • Guardians' Johnathan Rodriguez: Makes Opening Day roster

Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Columbus ahead of Thursday's 7-4 extra-inning win over the Royals and went unused off the bench. Cleveland had previously optioned Rodriguez to Triple-A on March 21, but he was added back to the active roster after the team placed five players on the injured list prior to Opening Day. The right-handed slugger could see occasional starts in right field or at designated hitter against left-handed pitching, but Jhonkensy Noel and Kyle Manzardo got the nod at those respective positions Thursday against southpaw Cole Ragans.

  • Guardians' Johnathan Rodriguez: In right field mix

Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt said Sunday that Rodriguez is in the mix for the available job in right field, Steve Stockmar of MLB.com reports. Add Rodriguez's name to the competition for right field, which also includes Will Brennan and Jhonkensy Noel. Rodriguez has done damage in the minors, including its highest level where the outfielder has a .295 average and 40 home runs over 165 games at Triple-A Columbus. "What he's done at Triple-A the last couple of years, we're excited about the future for J-Rod," Vogt said. Noel (Saturday) and Brennan (Sunday) have started the first two spring games with Rodriguez coming off the bench Saturday.

  • Guardians' Johnathan Rodriguez: Called up Saturday

The Guardians recalled Rodriguez from Triple-A Columbus on Saturday. Rodriguez will return to the big-league roster, replacing Jose Ramirez after Ramirez was placed on the paternity list Saturday. Rodriguez has been red hot with Columbus since he was sent down June 2, batting .413 with five home runs, 18 RBI and 12 runs scored over 46 at-bats in 10 contests.

  • Guardians' Johnathan Rodriguez: Receives first major-league call-up

The Guardians recalled Rodriguez from Triple-A Columbus on Monday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. He's taking the roster spot vacated by Ramon Laureano, who was designated for assignment. Rodriguez, 24, has slashed .276/.389/.449 with seven home runs and four stolen bases this season with Columbus. The Guardians have been desperate for production from any outfielder not named Steven Kwan this season, and Kwan is currently out with a hamstring injury, so it's possible Rodriguez will get a long look. He will be making his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game.
