  • Padres' Ron Marinaccio: Demoted Wednesday

The Padres optioned Marinaccio to the Arizona Complex League on Wednesday. The Padres needed to free up a spot on the active roster for the return of David Morgan (shoulder). Marinaccio will stay ready at the team's spring training complex in Arizona in case he's needed later this week or in the postseason.

  • Padres' Ron Marinaccio: Up from El Paso

The Padres recalled Marinaccio from Triple-A El Paso on Friday. With Nestor Cortes (biceps) moving to the injured list, Marinaccio will join the big-league bullpen to provide San Diego with some extra bullpen depth until the team needs a fifth starter. The 30-year-old has tossed 4.2 shutout innings with the Padres this year, though he owns a 5.05 ERA and 1.50 WHIP through 46.1 frames in the minors. He'll likely be restricted to middle-relief appearances with the Friars.

  • Padres' Ron Marinaccio: Retreats to Triple-A

The Padres optioned Marinaccio to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday. Marinaccio's latest stint in the big leagues lasted less than a week, as he had been called up from El Paso on Saturday. He made a two-inning relief appearance later that day against the Dodgers but had gone unused out of the bullpen in the Padres' last three games. Marinaccio will give up his spot on the active roster to lefty JP Sears, who was recalled ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Giants.

  • Padres' Ron Marinaccio: Sent to minors

The Padres optioned Marinaccio to Triple-A El Paso on Friday. The Padres had to clear room on their active roster following their shopping spree ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, and Marinaccio will end up as one of the casualties. The 30-year-old righty threw 2.2 shutout innings while striking out four batters during his brief stint in the majors, and he could still be an option to return to San Diego if/when the Padres need a fresh bullpen arm down the stretch.

  • White Sox's Ron Marinaccio: Claimed by South Siders

The White Sox claimed Marinaccio off waivers from the Yankees on Monday. The White Sox had the highest waiver priority of any team and used it to scoop up Marinaccio, who had been designated for assignment by the Yankees last Friday. Marinaccio has spent a large chunk of 2024 in the minors, but he's posted a career 3.22 ERA and 137:61 K:BB over 114.2 innings covering parts of three seasons in the majors. He's been optioned to Double-A Binghamton for the time being.

Marinaccio has previously made 14 appearances for the big club this season, logging a 2.53 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 22 strikeouts in 21.1 innings. Despite his strong ratios with the big club and at Triple-A (2.02 ERA, 0.99 WHIP in 35.2 innings) this season, Marinaccio could be limited to a low-leverage role out of the New York bullpen in September.

The 29-year-old reliever has found consistent success in the big leagues this season with a 2.84 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through 19 frames, though there's a good chance he'll be sent back to Triple-A following Saturday's games.

Marinaccio was called up by the Yankees on Saturday. Marinaccio owns a 4.08 ERA in 46.1 major-league innings this season, with a 27.6 percent strikeout rate more or less canceling out an inflated 12.6 percent walk rate. He'll give the Yankees an extra bullpen option, taking the roster spot that had belonged to Luis Severino, who landed on the injured list with a side injury.

  • Yankees' Ron Marinaccio: Faces live hitters

Marinaccio (shin) faced Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo on Monday during his second live batting practice session of spring training, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. The right-hander was sidelined late in the 2022 season due to a stress reaction in his right shin and wasn't able to pitch during the Yankees' postseason run, but his ability to face hitters on two occasions this early in spring training suggests he's back to full health or close to it. When available in 2022, Marinaccio was effective, as he finished his rookie campaign with a 2.05 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 56 strikeouts across 44 innings. He'll likely settle back into a middle-relief or setup role for the Yankees to begin the 2023 season.

  • Yankees' Ron Marinaccio: Facing hitters Tuesday

Marinaccio (shin) will face hitters Tuesday and believes he's on track to be ready for Opening Day, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports. Marinaccio was unavailable for the playoffs last season because of a stress reaction in his right shin. He's being eased into things this spring, but it sounds as though he should be fine for Opening Day, barring any setbacks. The right-hander posted a 2.05 ERA over 40 relief appearances for the Yankees in 2022.

Marinaccio has had a strong rookie season, posting a 2.05 ERA and a 30.9 percent strikeout rate in 44 innings of work. The injury means he'll end the season with those numbers and will remain unavailable for the ALDS, but it's possible he returns for the ALCS should the Yankees get that far.

  • Yankees' Ron Marinaccio: Departs with shin soreness

Marinaccio was removed from Sunday's game against the Orioles due to shin soreness, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Marinaccio didn't allow any baserunners while recording three outings between the seventh and eighth innings, but he was dealing with a shin injury that prompted his removal with one out in the top of the eighth inning. Manager Aaron Boone didn't sound too concerned about the issue after the game, so Marinaccio should be considered day-to-day for now.

  • Yankees' Ron Marinaccio: Sent down Saturday

Marinaccio was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. Given his success, Marinaccio will likely be the top option the next time the Yankees need to bring up a reliever from the minors.
