  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Moved to 60-day IL

The Reds transferred Gibaut (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Friday. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Zach Maxwell. Gibaut is set to miss the remainder of the season following arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Scheduled for surgery

Gibaut (shoulder) has been scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery, MLB.com reports. Gibaut was pulled off a rehab assignment earlier this month when his arm didn't respond well following an outing. No date for the surgery was provided, nor was an expected timeline for his recovery.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Undergoing testing

Gibaut (shoulder) has returned to Cincinnati, where he is undergoing tests after being pulled from a rehab assignment, MLB.com reports. Gibaut was roughed up in a rehab outing for Triple-A Louisville last week and had the assignment paused when his arm didn't recover well. It's unclear if it was the shoulder or another part of the arm that is the source of the current problem.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Pulled off rehab assignment

The Reds returned Gibaut (shoulder) from his rehab assignment Monday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. Gibaut remains on the 15-day injured list, so he must have encountered a setback while on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville, where he allowed four runs in two-thirds of an inning in his most recent appearance Wednesday. The righty reliever has been out since late June with a right shoulder impingement.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Starts rehab assignment

Gibaut (shoulder) tossed a perfect inning Sunday in his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Louisville. Gibaut has been cleared for game action after being shelved for more than a month with a right shoulder impingement. He will could require at least one more rehab appearance before rejoining the Reds' bullpen.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Begins playing catch

Gibaut (shoulder) has started playing catch, MLB.com reports. Gibaut says he's feeling good again, but a targeted return date is unknown at this time. The right-handed reliever should take the usual steps -- bullpens, live batting practice and brief rehab assignment -- before rejoining the Reds.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Back to IL with shoulder injury

The Reds placed Gibaut on the 15-day injured list Monday with a right shoulder impingement. The same injury cost Gibaut nearly a month of action earlier this season. A timeline for Gibaut's return from the IL this time around isn't yet clear, but he'll be eligible for activation immediately after the All-Star break.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Expected back Wednesday

Reds manager Terry Francona said Tuesday that Gibaut (shoulder) is on track to be activated from the 15-day injured list Wednesday, Charlie Goldsmith of the Dayton Daily News reports. Gibaut has been shelved since late April with a right shoulder impingement but has made four scoreless rehab appearances without any setbacks. He will return to a middle-relief role.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Makes first rehab outing

Gibault (shoulder) struck out two over one inning for Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. Gibault landed on the 15-day injured list April 26 with a right shoulder impingement. The right-hander is expected to make multiple rehab appearances before the Reds activate him.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Cleared for rehab assignment

Gibaut (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Sunday. Gibaut has been on the shelf since April 26 due to a right shoulder impingement, but he appears to be nearing the finish line in his recovery. He'll likely make at least a couple rehab appearances for Louisville before the Reds consider bringing him back from the 15-day injured list.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Placed on injured list

The Reds placed Gibaut on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right shoulder impingement. Gibaut surrendered two runs in one inning during his appearance Friday, and it seems he injured his shoulder in the process. The Reds will now put him on the shelf for at least the next 15 days and call up Lyon Richardson to fill the open spot in their bullpen.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Blows surprise save opportunity

Gibaut (0-1) was charged with the loss and a blown save Thursday against the Giants after giving up four runs on three hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out two. Gibaut was literally the last pitcher added to the Reds' roster after Alexis Diaz (hamstring) was placed on the IL earlier this week, so it was a major surprise he was called upon for the save Opening Day. It's noteworthy that potential fill-in closers Scott Barlow, Emilio Pagan and Tony Santillan pitched the sixth-through-eighth innings, but that still left Taylor Rogers and Graham Ashcraft available. Gibaut had a 3.33 ERA and 23 holds in 74 outings for Cincinnati in 2023, but he has a 4.33 ERA in his MLB career and isn't likely to see consistent high-leverage opportunities.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Back with CIN as NRI

Gibaut signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Gibaut missed the vast majority of 2024 due to forearm and calf injuries, and he was non-tendered by the Reds earlier this winter. The 31-year-old reliever owns a 3.77 ERA over 112.1 innings since joining the Reds in 2022, and he'll attempt to work his way back into Cincinnati's bullpen during spring training.

  • Ian Gibaut: No contract from Reds

Gibaut was non-tendered by the Reds on Friday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Gibaut battled both forearm and calf injuries that sidelined him for the majority of the 2024 season. He did return to make two appearances in the big leagues. Gibaut may have to settle for a non-roster invitation to spring training, but he should have the chance to contribute to a major-league roster at some point in 2025.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Back from injured list

The Reds reinstated Gibaut (forearm) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday. The right-hander hasn't seen a big-league mound this season while coming back from forearm surgery, but he'll join the Reds for the final week of the campaign. Gibaut allowed five earned runs over 3.2 frames in four rehab outings with Triple-A Louisville and should fill a low-leverage relief role.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Throwing at less than full effort

Gibaut (forearm/calf) has resumed throwing but is doing so at less than full effort, Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Gibaut has been out all season with a forearm injury, but a more recent calf strain is why he's not yet throwing with full intensity. He should have a shot to make it back before the end of the season, but there's no timetable for his return.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Set for re-evaluation soon

Reds manager David Bell said Friday that Gibaut (forearm) is scheduled to meet with a doctor soon before the next step in his rehab process is decided, MLB.com reports. If Gibaut gets clearance to resume baseball activities upon meeting with the doctor, Bell noted that the right-hander could be cleared to return from the 60-day injured list in as soon as six weeks. Gibaut had been shut down all season with a right forearm strain before undergoing anterior interosseous nerve release surgery May 9.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Resuming rehab assignment

Gibaut (forearm) will resume his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Gibaut experienced renewed discomfort in his forearm following his most recent rehab appearance April 16, but fortunately for the right-hander, a week off was seemingly all he needed to bounce back from the setback. Since opening the season on the 15-day injured list, Gibaut has made five rehab appearances between Louisville and High-A Dayton, giving up five earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over 4.1 innings.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Return delayed

Gibaut (forearm) did not make a scheduled appearance for Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday in order to be further evaluated, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Gibaut had thrown 25 pitches in a rehab appearance Tuesday and was scheduled to pitch again the next day. The Reds had targeted April 20 as a return for the right-hander, but manager David Bell said it will likely take longer now. The team will know more after Gibaut visits a doctor, and the pitcher could have his rehab assignment paused.

  • Reds' Ian Gibaut: Set for another rehab outing

Gibault (forearm) will make at least one more rehab appearance for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. This will be Gibault's fifth appearance while out on rehab assignment. The right-hander threw two scoreless innings for High-A Dayton and was moved to Louisville, where he's allowed four runs on four hits over 1.2 innings. He's targeted to return April 20.
