  • Luis Frias: Cut loose by Cleveland

The Guardians released Frias on Sunday. Frias had seen big-league action in each of the prior four seasons but never received a call-up to Cleveland in 2025 after inking a minor-league pact with the organization over the winter. The 27-year-old righty tossed 36 innings out of the bullpen at Triple-A Columbus this season and logged a 3.00 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 35:19 K:BB.

  • Guardians' Luis Frias: Joins Cleveland as NRI

The Guardians signed Frias on Thursday to a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to spring training. Frias, 26, battled a shoulder problem in 2024 and struggled during his 9.2 major-league innings, yielding 16 runs (15 earned) with a 12:7 K:BB. He's collected a 28.4 percent strikeout rate at the Triple-A level, so the Guardians felt Frias was worth a shot on a no-risk, minor-league pact.

  • Luis Frias: Hits open market

Frias became a free agent Monday after clearing waivers. Frias failed to draw any interest while on the waiver wire, so he'll set his sights on finding a new club. He failed to settle in at the big-league level in 2024, accruing a 13.97 ERA and 2.69 WHIP with 12 strikeouts across 9.2 innings between stops in Arizona and Toronto.

  • Blue Jays' Luis Frias: Sent back to minors

The Blue Jays optioned Frias to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday. Since coming up from Triple-A on Sept. 6, Frias has allowed eight earned runs on eight hits and three walks in only 3.1 innings. He'll head back to the minors in order to get back on track, and the Jays will bring up Dillon Tate to fill the open spot in their bullpen.

  • Blue Jays' Luis Frias: Recalled from Triple-A

Frias was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo prior to Friday's game against Atlanta. The 26-year-old righty gave up seven earned runs in 6.1 innings out of Arizona's bullpen earlier this year. Frias did not allow an earned run while striking out 11 in 8.1 innings while at Triple-A since getting claimed by the Blue Jays.

  • Blue Jays' Luis Frias: Claimed by Toronto

The Blue Jays claimed Frias off waivers from the Diamondbacks on Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Buffalo. Two days after being DFA'd by the D-backs, Frias will reclaim a spot on a 40-man roster -- though he will remain in Triple-A upon joining his new organization. The 26-year-old owns a 4.88 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 24 innings in the minors this year, and he's allowed seven earned runs in just 6.1 big-league frames.

  • Diamondbacks' Luis Frias: Designated for assignment

The Diamondbacks designated Frias for assignment Thursday. Just two days after being optioned to Triple-A upon coming off the injured list, Frias will now lose his spot on the 40-man roster to make room for Andrew Knizner, who was claimed off waivers from Texas on Thursday. Frias has given up seven earned runs over 6.1 innings in the big leagues this season and owns a 4.88 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 24 frames with Reno.

  • Diamondbacks' Luis Frias: Starting throwing program

Frias (shoulder) will begin a throwing program this week, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. Frias has been on the shelf for nearly two weeks with right shoulder inflammation but appears to be progressing. He had been optioned before that was rescinded and he was placed on the injured list, so the righty could be headed to Triple-A Reno rather than the majors once he's healthy.

  • Diamondbacks' Luis Frias: Lands on injured list

The Diamondbacks rescinded the option of Frias to Triple-A Reno on Friday and placed him on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Frias was initially optioned to Triple-A after allowing three earned runs without recording an out Tuesday, but a shoulder injury will put a hold on his demotion. Logan Allen and Justin Martinez were added to the big-league roster Wednesday to provide extra bullpen depth.

  • Diamondbacks' Luis Frias: Optioned to Triple-A

Frias was optioned to Triple-A Reno by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Frias was tagged for three runs without recording an out in Tuesday's extra-innings win over the Cubs. He's being sent out in favor of a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Diamondbacks' Luis Frias: Back in majors

The Diamondbacks recalled Frias from Triple-A Reno on Friday. As rosters expand to 28 players, Frias will provide the Diamondbacks with an additional bullpen arm. However, the 25-year-old righty hasn't had much success in the majors with a 5.71 ERA and 1.96 WHIP through 17.1 innings and will likely be limited to low-leverage situations.

  • Diamondbacks' Luis Frias: Summoned from Triple-A

Arizona recalled Frias from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. Frias has struggled mightily thus far at the major-league level, holding a 10.23 ERA with 23 walks over 23 innings covering 20 appearances from 2021 through 2023. He's had a dominant season at Reno, however, and will give Arizona a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Diamondbacks' Luis Frias: Moves up to majors

The Diamondbacks recalled Frias from Triple-A Reno ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Frias will give Arizona some much-needed length out of the bullpen in the series finale after five relievers were needed to cover the final 3.2 innings of Saturday's 16-7 loss to St. Louis. One of those relievers, Edwin Uceta, was optioned to Triple-A to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster and in the bullpen for Frias, who is expected to work in a low-leverage role for the duration of his stay in Arizona.

  • Diamondbacks' Luis Frias: Returns to majors

The Diamondbacks recalled Frias from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. He'll take the spot in the bullpen that previously belonged to Edwin Uceta, who was optioned to Reno after throwing three innings in long relief in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Dodgers. Frias, who most recently tossed two innings Sunday for Reno, will give the Diamondbacks a fresh relief arm for Wednesday's series finale.

  • Diamondbacks' Luis Frias: Optioned to Triple-A

Frias was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Friday. Frias' stay on the big-league roster lasted just over a week. • Diamondbacks' Luis Frias: Logs five outs in win

Frias allowed one run on one hit and two walks over 1.2 innings in Friday's 6-2 win over St. Louis. Frias was called up from Triple-A Reno after Arizona was short a couple of relievers that were added to the COVID-19-related injury list. He had been starting for the Aces, so his length came in handy Friday when starter Madison Bumgarner was pulled after five innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Luis Frias: Recalled by Arizona

Frias was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Thursday. Frias was sent to the minors at the end of March, and he posted a 3.29 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 13.2 innings over three minor-league starts to begin the season. He'll provide bullpen depth after J.B. Wendelken (undisclosed) was placed on the injured list and Tyler Gilbert was sent down.

  • Diamondbacks' Luis Frias: Demoted Thursday

The Diamondbacks optioned Frias to Triple-A Reno on Thursday. He was one of five players sent out from big-league camp in the Diamondbacks' latest round of roster cuts in advance of Opening Day. The 23-year-old right-hander had been vying for a spot in Arizona's bullpen to begin 2022 after he made three appearances for the big club last season following a Sept. 18 call-up from Reno.
