The Diamondbacks selected Curtiss's contract from Triple-A Reno on Saturday.
Curtiss signed a minor-league deal with Arizona in February and has posted a 6.34 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB over 32.2 innings with Reno this season. While those numbers are poor, the righty has been better of late, tossing 3.2 scoreless frames over his past three outings. To make room for Curtiss on the 26-man and 40-man rosters, the Diamondbacks designated fellow reliever Tayler Scott for assignment.

Curtiss signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training.
Most of Curtiss' time last season was spent at Triple-A Albuquerque, where he turned in a 3.96 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 50 regular-season frames. However, his recent performance in the majors hasn't been as successful, as he's surrendered 14 earned runs in 22 regular-season innings since 2023. He'll have an opportunity to earn a spot at the end of Arizona's bullpen during spring training, but chances are he reports to Triple-A Reno to begin the 2025 campaign.

Curtiss would have had the option of electing free agency after he cleared waivers, but he instead chose to stick around in the Colorado organization as relief depth at the Triple-A level. Though Curtiss is 17 months removed from Tommy John surgery and reported to camp seemingly without any restrictions, the Mets' plan for the early stages of the spring is to have him sharpen his command in bullpen sessions before clearing him for his Grapefruit League debut. When he was last healthy during the 2021 campaign, Curtiss proved to be a reliable setup option between stops with Miami and Milwaukee, as he accrued a 3.45 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 44:12 K:BB in 44.1 innings. After joining the Mets last April on a one-year, $770,000 contract, Curtiss showed enough progress in his rehab for the team to keep him on the 40-man roster by exercising his $775,000 team option for 2023. He'll still have to fight for a spot in the Mets' Opening Day bullpen, but barring any setbacks in his return from surgery, Curtiss looks to have an inside path to a 26-man roster spot.
