  • Angels' Luis Rengifo: Blasts ninth homer

Rengifo went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Brewers. Rengifo's playing time has picked up a bit while he has filled in for Yoan Moncada (ankle) at third base over the last few days, though Moncada was able to appear as a pinch hitter Thursday. Rengifo has gone 10-for-53 (.189) over 16 games in September while slipping into a utility role as the Angels get a look at some prospects in an injury-riddled infield. For the season, Rengifo has nine homers, 43 RBI, 53 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and a .240/.291/.340 slash line, with that .631 OPS being his worst since 2021.

  • Angels' Luis Rengifo: Sitting in second straight

Rengifo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. For the second day in a row, Rengifo will take a seat in favor of rookie Christian Moore, who will cover second base and bat fifth in the series finale. At 69-80, the Angels are effectively eliminated from playoff contention, so it wouldn't be surprising if the club moved Rengifo into a utility role over the final two weeks in order to open up regular playing time for Moore, who is viewed as the organization's long-term future at the keystone.

For the season, the versatile 28-year-old has posted a .247/.299/.348 slash line with eight homers, 36 RBI, 51 runs scored and eight stolen bases across a career-high 129 games.

  • Angels' Luis Rengifo: Multi-hit performance in win

Rengifo went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Monday's victory over the Rangers. After Taylor Ward gave the Angels a one-run lead to start the sixth inning, Rengifo padded the advantage a few batters later with a two-run homer. The switch-hitting infielder has posted just a .612 OPS this season after topping .720 in each of the previous three years. While never known for his power, his 13 doubles, one triple and five home runs through 100 games translate to a weak .328 slugging percentage. Despite his struggles, Rengifo has continued to see steady playing time, thanks in part to his defensive versatility but also due to injuries to fellow infielders Yoan Moncada (hand), Chris Taylor (hand) and Christian Moore (thumb).

The switch-hitting utility man has been heating up at the dish, slashing .313/.378/.507 with six extra-base hits and eight RBI to go with 10 runs scored and one stolen base over his last 74 plate appearances. Rengifo should continue to play nearly every day despite the recent arrival of second baseman Christian Moore, although the former could be challenged for action at third base once Yoan Moncada (knee) is back in the mix.

He's still batting just .220 with a .557 OPS, 17 RBI, 19 runs scored and two stolen bases over 69 contests.
