  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Losing hold of platoon role

Palacios is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Palacios seemed to have taken hold of a strong-side platoon role upon his return from the 60-day injured list Sept. 1, but he's now been out of the lineup for three straight matchups versus right-handed pitchers. The Rays will go with Bob Seymour at first base for the second day in a row.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Out of lineup again Tuesday

Palacios is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Blue Jays. After starting four times during a five-game stretch, Palacios has now been absent from the lineup for three consecutive contests. The Rays have Bob Seymour handling first base Tuesday.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Excluded from starting nine

Palacios is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports. The left-handed-hitting Palacios will take a seat for the second day in a row, this time against a right-handed starter (Trey Yesavage) after he was withheld from the starting nine Sunday against lefty Shota Imanaga. Since returning from the 60-day injured list Sept. 1, Palacios has gone 4-for-21 with three walks. That modest level of production may prompt the Rays to view Palacios as more of a part-time option rather than a locked-in strong-side platoon player.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: First homer of 2025

Palacios went 1-for-2 with a solo home run during Tuesday's 5-4 win over the White Sox. Palacios appeared in one game this season before being placed on the 60-day injured list with a knee injury. A hamstring issue extended his stay on the IL, and he was finally activated Sept. 1. He hit his first home run of the campaign Tuesday, and he's 2-for-14 (.143) with three strikeouts since being reinstated from the injured list.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Another start at first base

Palacios is starting at first base and batting seventh in Tuesday's game versus the White Sox. Palacios made his first professional start at first base Saturday against the Guardians, and he's back at the position Tuesday. It's his third straight start overall against right-handed pitching. The 28-year-old has missed most of this season with myriad injuries, but he could see regular reps versus righties down the stretch.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Returns from 60-day IL

The Rays activated Palacios (knee/hamstring) from the 60-day injured list Monday. Palacios has been limited to just one game for the Rays this season, first due to a fractured finger and more recently because of knee and hamstring problems. However, the 28-year-old recently played nine rehab games with Triple-A Durham -- going 6-for-33 with two home runs -- and is ready to rejoin the big club. Palacios should see a decent amount of playing time during the final month between second base and the outfield.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Kicks off rehab assignment

Palacios (knee/hamstring) resumed a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout while playing five innings at second base. Palacios has played just one game for the Rays all season, as he opened the campaign on the shelf while recovering from a right ring finger fracture, and then sprained his right knee in his April 17 debut for Tampa Bay. The 28-year-old had previously started up a rehab assignment June 10 and was shut down with intermittent soreness in the knee, and then began a new assignment July 22 before being shut down again due to right hamstring tightness. The snakebitten Palacios finally looks to be healthy again, but given the length of his absence, he could be in line for an extended stay in the minors to pick up at-bats before being activated from the 60-day injured list. Palacios will likely fill a utility role once he rejoins the Rays.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Resumes running

Palacios (hamstring) has resumed running, MLB.com reports. Palacios has run into bad injury luck this season, missing most of the year due to a knee injury. He pulled his hamstring while on a rehab assignment in late July and has been sidelined by that issue most recently. Palacios will still need to resume baseball activity before there's a clear timeline for his activation.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Sidelined by hamstring issue

Palacios (knee) was pulled off of his rehab assignment Wednesday after experiencing right hamstring tightness, MLB.com reports. Palacios has appeared in only one game this season and has been sidelined since April 17. He appeared to be nearing a return but will now be pulled off his rehab assignment for the second time. The Rays do not have a timeline for Palacios' return, but he is set to undergo further evaluation.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Pulled off rehab assignment

The Rays pulled Palacios off his rehab assignment Tuesday while the 28-year-old continues to deal with intermittent soreness in his right knee, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. "He's not moving like he wants to move," Rays manager Kevin Cash said of Palacios. After opening the season on the injured list while recovering from a finger fracture, Palacios was cleared to join the Rays on April 17, but he sprained his right knee in his 2025 debut with the big club and was returned to the IL a day later. The Rays cleared Palacios to head out on a rehab assignment June 10, but after slashing just .125/.243/.156 in eight games between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Triple-A Durham, he's now been shut down again. Cash noted that Palacios isn't dealing with any aggravation of the knee injury, but it's unclear how long the infielder/outfielder might need to rest before he's ready to resume his rehab assignment.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Ready for rehab assignment

Palacios (knee) was sent to the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Palacios has been cleared to play in games after going through various baseball activities. The utility player has been limited to only one game this season, first because of a fractured finger and more recently due to a sprained right knee. Because he last played a game on April 17, Palacios will likely require a good number of rehab contests before being activated from the 10-day injured list.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Resumes jogging

Palacios (knee) has begun jogging on a treadmill, MLB.com reports. Palacios has been sidelined since April 18 and is expected to be out until at least late May. While he's not close to a return, his recovery from a sprained right knee appears to be on track.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Facing extended absence

Manager Kevin Cash said Saturday that the Rays expect Palacios (knee) to miss roughly 4-to-6 weeks, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. A right knee sprain sent Palacios to the 10-day injured list Friday. The Rays are still gathering opinions on how to approach the 27-year-old's recovery, but he seems to be in for a long stay on the IL, whether he undergoes surgery or not.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Out with knee injury

The Rays placed Palacios on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a right knee sprain, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports. The 27-year-old was reinstated from the IL on Thursday after missing the start of the campaign due to a fractured right ring finger, but he apparently tweaked his knee while going 3-for-4 with a double, a run and a stolen base in his season debut. According to Bass, manager Kevin Cash said the injury is similar to the one Palacios dealt with last season, which sidelined him for all of August and most of September. Palacios is without an official timeline for his return but seems likely spend more than the 10-day minimum on the IL.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Returns from IL

The Rays reinstated Palacios (finger) from the injured list Thursday. Palacios landed on the injured list at the start of the season due to a fracture in his right ring finger that he suffered toward the end of spring training. He began a rehab assignment Saturday and played four games between the Rays' Double-A and Triple-A affiliates, during which he went 3-for-14 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Now cleared to return to action for the big club, the 27-year-old will replace Coco Montes on the active roster and is likely to spend time in the outfield while Jonny DeLuca (shoulder) and Josh Lowe (oblique) are both out.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Advancing rehab to Double-A

Palacios (finger) will play in rehab games with Double-A Montgomery on Saturday and Sunday before being re-evaluated, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Palacios logged five at-bats Friday in the Florida Complex League and reported no issues with his right ring finger afterward. He has received clearance to advance his rehab to Double-A, which would seem to put a return to the big-league club next week on the table. While Palacios didn't light the world on fire last season, he stole 19 bases in 20 attempts and figures to see fairly steady playing time upon his return given the other injuries to the Tampa Bay outfield.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Heads to IL with finger fracture

The Rays placed Palacios (finger) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Palacios had been on track to begin the season in a utility role with the Rays, but his bid for the Opening Day roster ended late last week when he was diagnosed with a small fracture in his right ring finger. His IL placement is retroactive to Monday, so Palacios will be eligible for activation ahead of the Rays' third series of the season, which begins April 4 in Texas. Tampa Bay recalled Kameron Misner from Triple-A Durham to provide some extra coverage in the outfield while Palacios is on the shelf.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Returns from injured list

The Rays activated Palacios (knee) from the 10-day injured list Monday. Palacios has been sidelined since early August with a right knee sprain but has been cleared to return after playing five rehab games with Triple-A Durham. The 27-year-old could see a few starts in the final week between second base and the outfield.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Starting rehab assignment

Palacios (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Palacios will play a few rehab games with Durham before returning from the 10-day injured list during the final week of the series if all goes well. The utility player has been sidelined since early August with a right knee sprain.

  • Rays' Richie Palacios: Set to miss four-to-six weeks

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Friday that Palacios will miss 4-to-6 weeks due to a right knee sprain, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Palacios was placed on the injured list Friday after spraining his right knee in Wednesday's game against the Marlins. The timeline would put Palacios on track to return to action in late August or early September, with his absence opening up more opportunities for Jonny DeLuca, Kameron Misner and Dylan Carlson in the outfield. Prior to his injury, Palacios was slashing .233/.350/.332 with 19 stolen bases, five home runs and 21 RBI across 300 plate appearances this season.
