  • Nationals' Jake Eder: Shelved at Triple-A

Triple-A Rochester placed Eder on its 7-day injured list Aug. 5 due to an unspecified injury. Acquired from the Angels on July 30, Eder reported to Triple-A Rochester following the trade but has yet to make his organizational debut while he recovers from an injury. The Nationals haven't provided a timeline for Eder's return to the mound, making it uncertain whether he'll pitch again in 2025.

  • Nationals' Jake Eder: Dealt to Washington

The Nationals acquired Eder and first baseman Sam Brown from the Angels on Wednesday in exchange for right-hander Luis Garcia and left-hander Andrew Chafin. Eder was then optioned to Triple-A Rochester. Eder, 26, has produced a 4.91 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 15:9 K:BB in 18.1 innings over eight appearances out of the Angels bullpen this season. He had made 13 starts with Triple-A Salt Lake, and the Nationals will likely continue to have him stay stretched out as a starter as he reports to their top affiliate in Rochester. Though Washington doesn't have a spot available for Eder in the big-league rotation at the moment, that could change if the Nationals move right-hander Michael Soroka ahead of Thursday's deadline, as has been speculated.

  • Angels' Jake Eder: Dispatched to Salt Lake

The Angels optioned Eder to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. Eder worked as the Angels' bulk reliever Tuesday, giving up five earned runs over six innings and taking his first loss of the season. Now sporting a 4.91 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in the majors, he'll head back to the rotation at Salt Lake, where he owns a 6.11 ERA and 1.47 WHIP. Jose Quijada was promoted from Triple-A to fill the vacancy in the Angels' bullpen.

  • Angels' Jake Eder: Stuck with loss as primary pitcher

Eder (0-1) took the loss Tuesday as the Angels were downed 6-3 by the Mets, coughing up five runs on seven hits and a walk over six relief innings. He struck out seven. The left-hander entered the game in the third inning as the third Angels pitcher to take the mound, and Eder stuck around to the bitter end, tossing 67 of 98 pitches for strikes but serving up a three-run homer to Pete Alonso in the third that put the Mets in the lead for good. Eder has taken the ball every fifth day since July 13 and tossed at least 50 pitches in all three long-relief outings, but his 5.54 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB over 13 innings during that span aren't exactly encouraging. It's unclear what the team's plans are for the fifth starter spot, but if Eder stays on schedule his next appearance will come at home early next week against the Rangers.

  • Angels' Jake Eder: Likely to work in bulk relief

Eder will likely be used in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Brock Burke in Wednesday's game against the Mets, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Other than closer Kenley Jansen, Eder is the Halos' freshest arm in the bullpen, as he hasn't been used since he covered three innings of long relief in Friday's 6-5 win over the Phillies. The Angels treated that game as a bullpen day with reliever Ryan Zeferjahn working the opening frame, and a similar arrangement could unfold Wednesday with Burke unlikely to cover more than an inning or two. Eder thus looks like a good bet to cover multiple frames in relief, but it's unclear if the Angels are seriously considering moving him into the rotation. He's had mixed results through his first seven outings out of the bullpen, compiling a 3.65 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 8:8 K:BB in 12.1 innings.

  • Angels' Jake Eder: Back with Halos

The Angels recalled Eder from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday. Since being demoted to Triple-A in late May, Eder has registered a 7.05 ERA and 1.57 WHIP across 37 innings. Despite his recent struggles, the 26-year-old will rejoin the big-league club to provide length out of the Angels' bullpen. He replaces Jack Kochanowicz on the 26-man roster.

  • Angels' Jake Eder: Heading back to Triple-A

The Angels optioned Eder to Triple-A Salt Lake following Tuesday's game against the Yankees. Eder was recalled by the Angels on Saturday and made two appearances out of the bullpen, during which he issued three walks, struck out three batters and did not allow a hit across three scoreless innings. He has a 4.78 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across six starts in Triple-A this season but could be brought back to the majors if the Angels require a spot starter or another bullpen arm. Robert Stephenson (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Angels' Jake Eder: Promoted to majors

Eder was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. Once a top prospect in the Marlins' system, Eder is now on his third team and in his first year as a member of the Angels. He had a 6.00 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB in nine innings across three starts in the Pacific Coast League. Eder appears poised to work in a long-relief role.

  • White Sox's Jake Eder: Booted from 40-man roster

The White Sox designated Eder for assignment Thursday. Eder was once a highly regarded pitching prospect but hasn't been able to regain his stuff following his September 2021 Tommy John surgery. It's possible some team will still be intrigued enough by his pedigree to scoop him up on waivers.

  • White Sox's Jake Eder: Sent to Charlotte

The White Sox returned Eder to Triple-A Charlotte after Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Twins. Eder joined the White Sox as the 27th man for Wednesday's twin bill, though he will now return to the minors without appearing in a game. However, his move to Charlotte will act as a promotion of sorts, as the 25-year-old southpaw had spent the entire season with Double-A Birmingham prior to Wednesday.

  • White Sox's Jake Eder: Sent down to Double-A

Eder (shoulder) was optioned to Double-A Birmingham by the White Sox on Friday. Eder almost surely wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster anyway, but he's been sidelined recently with soreness in his right (non-throwing) shoulder. Acquired from the Marlins in the Jake Burger trade last year, Eder will be part of Birmingham's rotation once healthy.

  • White Sox's Jake Eder: Has sore shoulder

Eder experienced soreness in his right shoulder Saturday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Eder is slated for a side session Sunday, and the White Sox will determine next steps after he's thrown. The 25-year-old southpaw spent most of last season in Double-A, accumulating a 6.70 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across 47 innings.

  • White Sox's Jake Eder: Joins 40-man roster

The White Sox selected Eder to their 40-man roster Tuesday, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. Eder posted an ugly 6.35 ERA over 56.2 minor-league innings in 2023, but the White Sox acquired him from the Marlins in the Jake Burger trade and didn't want to lose the 25-year-old left-hander in the upcoming Rule 5 Draft.

  • White Sox's Jake Eder: Traded to Chicago for Burger

Eder was traded from the Marlins to the White Sox on Tuesday in exchange for Jake Burger, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports. Eder is coming off his best start of the year for Double-A Pensacola, in which he struck out 10 batters and allowed one earned run in 5.2 innings. He underwent Tommy John surgery in September 2021 and has a 3.94 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 29.2 innings across six starts at Double-A, although his fastball velocity has been more in the low-90s, rather than his pre-surgery mid-90s fastball. Eder's best pitch is a plus slider, and improving his changeup and command will be of focus over the coming seasons. He could reach the majors sooner with the White Sox than he would have in Miami, given the depth of both organizations.

  • Marlins' Jake Eder: Active at Double-A

Eder (foot) gave up three earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two over 4.1 innings in his first start for Double-A Pensacola. He showed similar rust (4.66 ERA, 1.55 WHIP) in three rehab starts in the Florida State League before being activated from the injured list last week. Eder suffered a broken foot right when he was about to return from Tommy John surgery this spring, so he ended up missing 23 total months of action between the two injuries.

  • Marlins' Jake Eder: Returning to mound Sunday

Eder (foot) will make his first start of the 2023 season for Single-A Jupiter on Sunday. It'll be the first start for Eder since 2021, as the southpaw underwent Tommy John surgery that September and also broke his foot while rehabbing this spring. The 24-year-old left-hander was sensational in the 2021 campaign with a 1.77 ERA and 99:27 K:BB and 0.98 WHIP over 71 innings. He could be a rotation option for the Marlins in 2024 if he shows the same stuff and command he did two years ago.

  • Marlins' Jake Eder: Expected back in June

Eder (broken foot) is expected back in mid-to-late June, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. The big 6-foot-4 southpaw broke his foot in a freak accident off the field during spring training. Eder, who underwent Tommy John surgery in September 2021, is very advanced and could move quickly through the upper levels once he's healthy.

  • Marlins' Jake Eder: Recovering from broken foot

Eder is recovering from a fractured left foot and will open the year at Double-A Pensacola once healthy, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports. Eder was going to be make his much-anticipated return from Tommy John surgery this spring, but a fractured foot will delay things for the big southpaw. He excelled in 15 starts at Double-A in 2021 prior to needing surgery, so Eder could get a bump to Triple-A this summer once he knocks some rust off.

  • Marlins' Jake Eder: Enters camp at full strength

Eder (elbow) is feeling 100 percent and doesn't have an innings limit set for spring training, Fish on the Farm reports. Eder will likely be monitored closely as he nears his first live action since undergoing Tommy John surgery in August of 2021. The 24-year-old has only played one year of minor-league ball in the early stages of his career, as he spent the 2021 campaign with Double-A Pensacola and turned in a sparkling 1.77 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with a 99:27 K:BB over 15 starts (71.1 innings).

  • Marlins' Jake Eder: Nearing mound work

Eder (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in September, MLB.com reports. Eder's recovery from surgery appears to be on track thus far, but the Marlins are unlikely to have him pitch in anything other than simulated games before the minor-league season comes to a close. The 23-year-old lefty could be a candidate to get some innings in during the Arizona Fall League or instructional ball, but the Marlins' main focus will likely be in ensuring he's ready to go for spring training with no restrictions. Before getting surgery, Eder dazzled in his 15 starts at Double-A Pensacola, turning in a 1.77 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 99:27 K:BB across 71.1 innings.
