  • Marlins' Zach McCambley: Returned to Miami

McCambley was returned to the Marlins on Sunday after being waived by the Phillies.

The right-hander was selected during the Rule 5 Draft in December but missed out on the Phillies' Opening Day roster after giving up one run with a 4:6 K:BB across 7.1 innings during spring training. McCambley finished last season at Triple-A Jacksonville, where he had a 3.67 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 53:16 K:BB across 42.1 innings.

  • Phillies' Zach McCambley: Stolen by Phillies

The Phillies selected McCambley with the 12th pick of the Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday.

A third-round pick in 2020, McCambley spent the first five-plus years of his pro career in the Marlins organization. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2025 as a reliever, logging a 3.32 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 52:15 K:BB in 40.2 innings across 36 appearances. His stuff isn't quite as good as his 2025 results might indicate, but he has a quality slider and cutter to help offset the fact his fastball sits in the 93-95 mph range with poor movement.

  • Marlins' Zach McCambley: Active at Double-A

McCambley (elbow) struck out two over 1.2 scoreless frames in his first appearance for Double-A Pensacola.

He missed the first two months of the season and then spent almost two weeks on a rehab assignment across the Florida Complex League and Florida State League. McCambley projects as a multi-inning reliever in the majors, and it looks like the Marlins may be ready to make that transition from starter to reliever this season in the minors.

  • Marlins' Zach McCambley: Out with elbow soreness

McCambley is sidelined at Double-A Pensacola with elbow soreness and is expected back in mid-to-late June, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.

Director of minor-league operations Hector Crespo said there is nothing structurally wrong with McCambley's elbow, but he has not pitched since spring training. The 24-year-old righty has a famously impressive curveball, but he has a career 5.51 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 134 innings at Double-A.

  • Marlins' Zach McCambley: Promoted to Double-A

McCambley was promoted to Double-A Pensacola on Wednesday.

McCambley was drafted number 75 overall by Miami in last year's draft. The right-hander began his professional career this season at High-A Beloit, and it didn't take long for him to show the Marlins he's ready to move to Double-A. McCambley started in each of his 11 appearances with the Snappers, posting a 3.79 ERA to go along with a very impressive 73:6 K:BB. He figures to continue in a starting role with Pensacola, though it still remains a strong possibility that he'll eventually be converted to a reliever.

  • Marlins' Zach McCambley: Perfect outing at High-A

McCambley threw seven perfect innings for High-A Beloit in his second professional start last Tuesday while striking out eight, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports.

A third-round pick in 2020, McCambley overwhelmed the opposition with his mid-90s fastball and tight, low-80s curveball just a week after his 22nd birthday. Scouting reports on the Coastal Carolina product when he was drafted suggested he would need to develop his changeup into a usable third pitch and improve his control and command if he wanted to stick as a starter, and it looks like he may have already begun checking off the latter boxes, posting a 15:2 K:BB through 11 innings so far. McCambley isn't yet on the dynasty radar even in deep formats, but that will change if he continues to deal.
