  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Back with Mets

The Mets re-signed Waddell to a one-year contract Tuesday. Waddell held a 3.45 ERA and 22:11 K:BB over 31.1 innings for the Mets in 2025. He was used primarily as a starter this season at Triple-A Syracuse, where he posted a 5.02 ERA and 63:25 K:BB in 75.1 innings. Waddell does not have minor-league options remaining, so he would have to be passed through waivers in order to be sent to the minors if he doesn't make the Opening Day roster.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Optioned to Triple-A

The Mets optioned Waddell to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports. Waddell tossed 4.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Sunday's loss to the Marlins but now finds himself back in the minors. The Mets have elected to replace him on the roster with a position player in Jared Young.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Saves bullpen Sunday

Waddell gave up three hits and two walks over 4.1 scoreless relief innings in Sunday's loss to the Marlins. He struck out four. Called back up to the majors earlier in the day, Waddell took over from a struggling Kodai Senga in the fifth inning and gave the rest of the Mets' bullpen the day off, tossing 58 pitches (41 strikes) to go the rest of the way in a 5-1 loss. That workload might result in him getting bumped back to Triple-A Syracuse in favor of a fresh arm, but with the team's rotation in general struggling in August, Waddell could end up being a key figure in any September playoff push. The southpaw's worked at least three innings in five of his last six big-league appearances dating back to June 28, posting a 3.66 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB in 19.2 innings during those outings.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Back in majors

The Mets recalled Waddell from Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. Waddell has been at Triple-A since recovering from a hip impingement a couple weeks ago but will rejoin the Mets ahead of Sunday's series finale versus Miami. The left-hander has made 10 appearances for New York this season and has a 4.00 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 18:9 K:BB across 27 innings.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Activated, optioned to Triple-A

The Mets activated Waddell (hip) from the 15-day injured list Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse. Waddell suffered a right hip impingement in late July, and despite being optioned to Triple-A, the Mets were able to reverse the transaction and place him on the IL since he hadn't appeared for Syracuse following his demotion. Now that he's back to full health after making three rehab appearances with Syracuse, he'll stick around with the Triple-A club. Waddell owns a 4.34 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with a 38:17 K:BB across 47.2 innings (nine starts) for Syracuse this season.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Ready for rehab assignment

Waddell (hip) is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Saturday. The Mets optioned Waddell shortly after the All-Star break, only to reverse that move and place him on the 15-day injured list with a right hip impingement. He's now ready for game action and doesn't figure to require a lengthy rehab assignment, but it's uncertain what kind of role he will have over the final two months of the regular season (if any). New York bolstered its bullpen with Ryan Helsley, Tyler Rogers and Gregory Soto prior to Thursday's trade deadline.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Shelved with hip issue

The Mets reversed Waddell's optional assignment to Triple-A Syracuse and placed him on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to a right hip impingement. Waddell had been sent down to Syracuse over the weekend, but he didn't appear in any games for the affiliate and is thus eligible to be placed on the big club's injured list. The lefty will be eligible for activation Aug. 3, but it's not clear whether he will be ready to return on that date.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Optioned to Triple-A

The Mets optioned Waddell to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. After giving up two runs in 3.2 innings out of the bullpen Friday, Waddell will be sent back to the minors in favor of Kevin Herget, who will provide New York with a fresh arm. Waddell has surrendered eight runs over 12.1 frames across his last four MLB outings but could still make several more appearances for the Mets this season.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Opening second game Thursday

Waddell will serve as the Mets' opening pitcher in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader in Baltimore, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. He's being classified as an opener, but Waddell has the ability to go multiple innings, having lasted at least 2.2 frames in each of his last three appearances for the Mets. Once Waddell is done Thursday, Justin Hagenman is a good bet to eat some innings out of the Mets' bullpen.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Back with big club

The Mets recalled Waddell from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. Waddell has made four relief appearances for the Mets this season, allowing four runs with a 7:2 K:BB over 10.2 innings. He'll look to provide more stability to the Mets' left-handed relief corps.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Sent back to Triple-A

The Mets optioned Waddell to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Waddell pitched in two games for the Mets since his latest promotion and has appeared in four contests overall this season, registering a 3.38 ERA and 7:2 K:BB across 10.2 innings of relief. In a corresponding move, the Mets recalled Justin Garza, whom they just acquired in a trade with the Giants over the weekend.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Back in Queens

The Mets recalled Waddell from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports. Waddell was optioned to Triple-A on Friday but will now rejoin the big club as a replacement for Max Kranick, who was sent to Syracuse in a corresponding move. Waddell has made two appearances out of the bullpen for New York this season, allowing four runs in 9.1 innings while striking out seven batters and walking one.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Returns to Triple-A

The Mets optioned Waddell to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday. The left-hander allowed four runs over five relief innings Wednesday against the White Sox, and he'll head to the minors in favor of a fresh bullpen arm. Waddell has a 3.86 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 7:1 K:BB in his two big-league appearances this season.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Returns to Triple-A

The Mets optioned Waddell to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. Waddell impressed in a bulk-relief role in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Diamondbacks, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings. However, he was not going to be available for a few days, so the Mets will replace him on the 26-man active roster with a fresh bullpen arm in right-hander Ty Adcock, who was called up from Syracuse.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Added to roster

The Mets selected Waddell's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. Waddell will serve as a bulk reliever in Wednesday's game versus the Diamondbacks in what will be his first major-league appearance since 2021. The left-hander has posted a 1.54 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB through five starts and 23.1 innings this season with Syracuse.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Getting call-up Wednesday

The Mets plan to call up Waddell from Triple-A Syracuse to serve as a starter or bulk reliever in Wednesday's game versus the Diamondbacks at Citi Field, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The Mets will likely make a determination after Tuesday's game whether to deploy Waddell as a starter or behind an opener in his team debut. Waddell has posted a 1.54 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB through five starts and 23.1 innings this season with Triple-A Syracuse. He'll be making his first major-league appearance since 2021 on Wednesday.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Could join rotation this week

Waddell could get called up for a spot start or bulk-relief outing during the Mets' series against the Diamondbacks this week, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. The 30-year-old southpaw has had a strong start to the season for Triple-A Syracuse, posting a 1.54 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB through five starts and 23.1 innings, and Waddell's schedule lines up with the Arizona series -- he last pitched Friday, so he could slot into the rotation Wednesday. Waddell would need to be added to the 40-man roster before getting a promotion, however. He last pitched in the majors in 2021, spending the last three seasons in Korea and China.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Sent out of big-league camp

The Mets reassigned Waddell to minor-league camp Sunday. Waddell joined the Mets on a minor-league deal in December following a three-year stint overseas that featured stints stops with the Doosan Bears of the Korea Baseball Organization and Rakuten Monkeys of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. Though New York's rotation depth has already taken a couple of notable hits this spring due to injuries to Sean Manaea (oblique) and Frankie Montas (lat), Waddell didn't impress enough over his two Grapefruit League outings (5.40 ERA, 2.10 WHIP and 1:2 K:BB in 3.1 innings) to make a compelling case for an Opening Day gig. Waddell will slot into the rotation at Triple-A Syracuse.

  • Mets' Brandon Waddell: Could be next man up in rotation

Waddell might be an option for the Mets' rotation this season, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports. New York has already seen Sean Manaea (oblique) and Frankie Montas (lat) go down this spring, with both pitchers expected to begin the season on the injured list. If the spate of injuries continues, Waddell could find himself in the mix for some March or April starts. The 30-year-old southpaw hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021, spending the last three years in the KBO, and after signing him to a minor-league contract in December, the Mets would need to find room for him on the 40-man roster in order to add him to the big-league rotation.

  • Cardinals' Brandon Waddell: Outrighted off roster

The Cardinals outrighted Waddell to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. St. Louis never formally announced that Waddell was designated for assignment, but he evidently went unclaimed on waivers and will remain in the organization. Waddell will lose his place on the 40-man roster, however, with his spot going to fellow reliever Andre Pallante, who earned a spot in the Cardinals' Opening Day bullpen.
