  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Returns from 10-day IL

The Astros activated Trammell (neck) from the 10-day injured list Monday. Trammell had been out of action for the Astros since Aug. 20, when he sustained a neck strain after a face-first collision with the outfield wall. The 27-year-old was able to complete a three-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land over the weekend and now appears set to fill a depth role in the Houston outfield in September. Over 112 plate appearances in the majors this season, Trammell is slashing .208/.313/.354 with three home runs, two stolen bases, 11 RBI and 10 runs.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Takes part in full workouts

Trammell (neck/concussion) resumed taking part in full workouts with the Astros earlier in the week, MLB.com reports. Trammell was placed on the 10-day injured list Aug. 21, one day after he suffered a cervical muscle strain as well as a concussion following a collision with the outfield wall. His ability to return to full workouts suggests that he's made some progress in his recovery from both injuries, but the Astros haven't offered up a clear timeline for his return.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Still in concussion protocol

Manager Joe Espada said Thursday that Trammell (neck) remains in the concussion protocol, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Trammell was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday due to a cervical muscle strain that he suffered Wednesday, but he also suffered a concussion. The 27-year-old will be eligible to be reinstated Aug. 31, but a longer absence wouldn't be surprising given the nature of his injuries.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Lands on 10-day IL

The Astros placed Trammell on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a cervical muscle strain, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Trammell suffered the injury in Wednesday's game versus the Tigers when he collided with the outfield wall. He will be eligible for activation Aug. 31, but it's unclear whether he will be ready to go on that date or need more time to recover.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Getting checked for concussion

Astros manager Joe Espada said after Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Tigers that Trammell is dealing with neck and back stiffness and will be evaluated for a concussion, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Trammell was carted off the field in the bottom of the first inning after a face-first collision with the outfield wall while he pursued a deep fly ball off the bat of Dillon Dingler that fell in for a triple. Though Trammell will travel with the team to Baltimore for its four-game series that begins Thursday, he'll go through further diagnostic testing before the Astros can definitively rule out a concussion. Jacob Melton replaced Trammell in center field Wednesday and is likely to start at the position in Thursday's series opener.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Carted off field Wednesday

Trammell required assistance off the field with a cart in the bottom of the first inning of Wednesday's game against the Tigers after colliding with the outfield wall, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Trammell's availability heading into Wednesday had been in some question after he landed hard on a catch in the outfield during the ninth inning of Tuesday's 1-0 loss, but he received clearance to enter the lineup for the series finale. However, Trammell departed from the contest without logging a plate appearance, as he made hard contact with the wall while pursuing a Dillon Dingler deep fly to center field that fell in for a triple. The Astros should have an update on the nature and severity of Trammell's injury later Wednesday.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Exiting lineup Sunday

Trammell is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees. With southpaw Max Fried on the bump for the Yankees, the left-handed-hitting Trammell will retreat to the bench. Trammell had started each of the previous three games while going 2-for-11 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. The right-handed-hitting Chas McCormick will get the start in center field Sunday and could continue to hold down the short side of a platoon at the position with Trammell until Jake Meyers (calf) is ready to return from the injured list.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Gets look from leadoff spot

Trammell went 1-for-3 with two walks Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. The Astros have used Isaac Paredes (hamstring) and Jeremy Pena (ribs) as their primary leadoff hitters this year, but they have been forced to explore other options with both sidelined. Cam Smith had hit from the top spot in the prior three games, but he was out of the lineup Wednesday to give Trammell an opportunity. Trammell is getting near-everyday playing time in the absence of Jake Meyers (calf) and has gone 10-for-35 with two home runs, eight RBI and seven runs scored across his last 12 games.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Collects trio of hits

Trammell went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, a two-RBI double and an additional run scored during Sunday's 11-3 win over Seattle. Trammell got off to a slow start with Houston this season, going 5-for-35 (.143) with 14 strikeouts before Sunday's outburst. The outfielder notched his second long ball of the campaign, tagging Bryan Woo for a solo shot in the sixth inning. While Trammell has never hit above .200 in an MLB season, his three-hit performance could be enough to spark a hot streak.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Taking seat Saturday

Trammell isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mariners, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Trammell will step out of the starting nine after going 0-for-3 with a walk during the first game of the second half Friday. Chas McCormick will take his place in center field and bat seventh.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Moving into regular role

Trammell will start in center field and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Rangers. With injuries piling up in the Houston outfield, Trammell looks to have taken hold of a regular spot in the lineup. He'll pick up his sixth consecutive start Sunday after going 5-for-18 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI and three runs over his last five games. Trammell is capable of playing all three outfield spots but will likely see most of his time in center field while Jake Meyers (calf) is on the shelf.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Returns from IL

The Astros activated Trammell (calf) from the 10-day injured list Monday. Trammell has been shelved all season with a significant right calf strain but is ready to go after playing 12 rehab contests. The 27-year-old is likely to operate primarily as a reserve outfielder for the Astros.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Rehab moved to Triple-A

Trammell (calf) will continue his rehab at Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Trammell is recovering from a significant right calf strain and has yet to make his 2025 debut. However, the 27-year-old outfielder is approaching his long-awaited return, as the move to Triple-A is likely the last step of his recovery. He's been on a rehab assignment since June 2, and it's unclear how many more games he'll need before being activated.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Beginning rehab assignment

Trammell (calf) has been sent to the rookie-level Florida Complex League Astros to begin a rehab assignment. Trammell has been shelved all season with a significant right calf strain but is ready to test things out in a game setting. Given the length of his absence, Trammell will require a fairly lengthy rehab assignment.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Lands on IL with calf strain

The Astros placed Trammell (calf) on the 10-day injured list Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Trammell suffered a right calf strain Feb. 21 while running the bases and doesn't appear close to returning. He could be a candidate to eventually shift to the 60-day IL.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Dealing with significant strain

Astros manager Joe Espada said Sunday that Trammell's right calf strain is "pretty significant," Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. The 27-year-old suffered the injury while running the bases Friday and remains without an official recovery timeline, though it appears his availability for the start of the regular season could be in jeopardy. Trammell already faced long odds to crack Houston's Opening Day roster, and a multi-week absence during spring training will only dampen his outlook.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Suffers calf strain

Trammell was diagnosed with a right calf strain Saturday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Trammell suffered the injury Friday while running the bases and is set to be out for a while, though the Astros didn't specify exactly how long that will be. The 27-year-old outfielder is fighting for a spot on the Astros' roster after being traded from New York in November, but his latest injury doesn't help his chances.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Traded to Houston

The Astros acquired Trammell from the Yankees on Monday in exchange for cash considerations, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Trammell was just added to the 40-man roster over the weekend to keep him from reaching minor-league free agency and now has been flipped to a new team. The 27-year-old has hit just .167/.270/.363 with a 37.1 percent strikeout rate over parts of four major-league seasons.

  • Yankees' Taylor Trammell: Added to 40-man roster

The Yankees selected Trammell's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday. Trammell spent most of the 2024 season at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, slashing .256/.381/.488 with 18 homers and 20 steals. He's hit only .167/.270/.363 with a 37.1 percent strikeout rate over parts of four major-league seasons, but the Yankees decided the 27-year-old was worthy of a 40-man roster spot heading into the offseason.

  • Yankees' Taylor Trammell: Outrighted after clearing waivers

Trammell was outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Trammell cleared waivers after being DFA'd by the Yankees on Saturday and will stick in the team's system at the Triple-A level. Considering he hasn't batted over .200 in the big leagues in his career, Trammell will likely have to light it up in Triple-A to return to the majors.
