  • Rockies' German Marquez: Ends season on sour note

Marquez (3-16) allowed six runs on five hits and three walks while striking out one over 4.1 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Giants. Marquez was hit hard early, as Willy Adames hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Heliot Ramos added a three-run blast in the second. Marquez lost eight of his last 11 starts this season and allowed 50 runs (44 earned) over 52.1 innings in that span. Overall, he wasn't much better, finishing 2025 with a 6.70 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 83:48 K:BB across 126.1 innings over 26 starts. While he avoided a season-ending injury this year, his poor numbers -- the worst he's had in a full season in his career -- will likely lead to a tepid free-agent market for the right-hander.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Gets no help in loss

Marquez (3-15) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Angels. This was one of Marquez's best starts of the year, but it went unrewarded as the Rockies failed to generate any run support. He still allowed a pair of home runs, which were solo shots by Taylor Ward and Nolan Schanuel. Marquez has lost four of five starts since returning from biceps tendinitis, and he's allowed 26 runs over 23.2 innings in that span. For the season, he's at a 6.49 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 82:45 K:BB through 122 innings across 25 starts. The right-hander's last start of the season is projected to be at San Francisco.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Chased early Sunday

Marquez (3-14) allowed seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and two walks while failing to record a strikeout over 2.1 innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Padres. Marquez's last two starts have come on the road, but he's allowed a combined 12 runs (11 earned) over 7.1 innings in those games. The right-hander gave up three runs in each of the first two frames and continued to labor before Roansy Contreras relieved him in the third. On the year, Marquez has an awful 6.65 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 77:44 K:BB through 115 innings over 24 starts. He's tentatively projected for a home start versus the Angels in his next outing.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Poor showing in 13th loss

Marquez (3-13) allowed five runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Dodgers. Marquez allowed scoring plays in each of the second through fifth innings. He allowed the opening run on a wild pitch and allowed two home runs for the third time in his last eight appearances. Marquez hasn't looked comfortable since returning from right biceps tendinitis, allowing 17 runs over 14.1 innings across three starts since his activation. He's at a 6.31 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 77:42 K:BB across 112.2 innings through 23 starts this season. The right-hander is tentatively projected to make a road start versus the Padres this weekend.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Struggles in no-decision

Marquez allowed four runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out two batters over five innings in a no-decision against San Francisco on Wednesday. Marquez seemed destined for a loss when the Giants scored four times over the first three innings, but Colorado's offense plated five runs across the fourth and fifth frames to take him off the hook. It was nonetheless a rough outing for the veteran hurler, who has now given up 12 runs over 9.1 innings since returning from the injured list Aug. 29. Marquez has given up four or more earned runs 10 times in 22 starts this season, which helps explain his 6.19 season ERA.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Hit hard by Cubs in return

Marquez (3-12) took the loss Friday against the Cubs, allowing eight runs on nine hits and three walks in 4.1 innings. He failed to record a strikeout. Marquez was far from sharp in his first major-league start since July 20, surrendering at least five runs for the eighth time this season. It was the veteran right-hander's first outing this year with zero strikeouts, and he's now walked at least three in four of his past five appearances dating back to June 29. Marquez has a miserable 5.87 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 73:38 K:BB across 102.2 innings, so he won't be a recommended streaming option at hitter-friendly Coors Field against the division-rival Giants next week.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Officially activated

The Rockies reinstated Marquez (biceps) from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Cubs. Marquez will return from nearly a five-week absence due to right biceps tendinitis. The veteran right-hander worked up to 76 pitches in his last minor-league rehab start, and he should be cleared to handle a full workload. Marquez has a better ERA at Coors Field (5.31) than he does on the road (5.95) this season.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Returning from IL on Friday

The Rockies will activate Marquez (biceps) from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Cubs at Coors Field, MLB.com reports. Marquez has been on the shelf since July 23 due to right biceps tendinitis, but he was cleared to rejoin the Colorado rotation after he completed a bullpen session Wednesday without incident. Before linking back up with the Rockies this week, Marquez completed two rehab starts for Triple-A Albuquerque. He most recently pitched for Albuquerque on Sunday, striking out seven and allowing two earned runs on five hits and one walk over 4.1 innings (76 pitches). To make room for Marquez in the rotation, Colorado moved Antonio Senzatela to the bullpen earlier this week.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Set for pair of rehab starts

Marquez (biceps) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday and is expected to make two starts with the affiliate before returning from the 15-day injured list, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. Assuming Tuesday's outing goes well, Marquez is lined up to pitch again for Albuquerque on Sunday before returning from the 15-day injured list next week. Before landing on the IL on July 23 due to right biceps tendinitis, Marquez submitted an inflated 5.67 ERA and 1.64 WHIP with 73 punchouts over 98.1 innings in 20 starts with the Rockies.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Progress continues

Marquez (biceps) threw a bullpen session Saturday and is scheduled to throw live batting practice Tuesday, MLB.com reports. Marquez has been throwing bullpen sessions for a week and is now prepared to take the next step in his recovery. He has been sidelined since July 21, meaning a rehab assignment is likely, but the team has yet to give a timeline for Marquez to return.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Resumes throwing

Marquez (biceps) threw from 105 feet Monday, MLB.com reports. Marquez landed on the injured list Wednesday, so it's positive that he was able to resume throwing so quickly. He hopes to throw a bullpen session soon, but he does not have a timeline to return from the injured list.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Lands on IL with biceps tendinitis

The Rockies placed Marquez on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right biceps tendinitis. Marquez was removed from his latest start in Sunday's 7-1 loss to the Twins due to the injury. He will be eligible to return Aug. 5, but given the nature of the injury and the Rockies' place in the standings, there's a good chance that the right-hander will be on the shelf beyond the minimum 15 days. Tanner Gordon was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move and will replace Marquez in the rotation.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Likely to go on IL

Marquez said Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with right biceps tendon inflammation and is likely to land on the injured list, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Marquez sustained the injury in his start in Sunday's loss to the Twins. The Rockies haven't provided a timeline for Marquez's return, but he'll likely be out for longer than the minimum 15 days. The Rockies plan to recall Tanner Gordon from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday to replace Marquez on the 26-man active roster and in the rotation.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Tagged for three runs in loss

Marquez (3-11) took the loss Sunday against Minnesota, surrendering three earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two over three innings. Marquez struggled with command and efficiency Sunday, issuing four walks and allowing all three of his runs in a rough third inning capped off by a two-run homer to Matt Wallner. It marked just the second time in his last seven starts that the right-hander has allowed more than two runs, but his early exit showed signs of him reverting back to a frustrating trend during a difficult season. The 30-year-old now sports a 5.67 ERA and 1.64 WHIP through 98.1 innings. With losses in three of his last five outings, Marquez has failed to find a rhythm and remains an inconsistent arm.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Sharp over six frames in no-decision

Marquez settled for a no-decision after working six innings, allowing one run on five hits and three walks while striking out eight, during Friday's 3-2 win over the Reds. Marquez rebounded from one of his worst starts of the season his last time out with one of his best. The 30-year-old struck out a season-high eight batters, bringing him up to 71 on the season in just over 95 innings pitched. The right-hander did surrender a home run, the fourth straight start in which he's done so, but that was the lone damage on the day. He'll enter the All-Star break on a high note and will look to continue to chip away at his ERA, now at 5.47, in the second half.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Lit up by White Sox

Marquez (3-10) was charged with the loss Saturday against the White Sox after giving up six runs on 11 hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out two. The only real positive from Marquez's outing Saturday was the length, as he tied a season high in hits allowed and struck out two or fewer for the sixth time this year. The veteran right-hander's 10 losses are tied for second most in MLB, while his 5.84 ERA is the worst among 70 qualified starters. Marquez lines up to pitch on the road in Cincinnati next weekend, but he's pretty clearly off the fantasy radar at this point.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Tosses 5.2 frames in no-decision

Marquez allowed two runs on three hits and three walks over 5.2 innings in a no-decision Sunday at Milwaukee. He struck out five. The only blemishes on the veteran right-hander's performance were two solo homers, and he allowed two or fewer earned runs for the fourth consecutive outing. Over that span, Marquez has pitched to a 1.33 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB across 20.1 frames while allowing three long balls. Through 83.1 total innings, the 30-year-old now sports a 5.62 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 61:27 K:BB. Marquez is currently slated to make his next start in Colorado's home series next weekend against the White Sox.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Takes loss to Dodgers

Marquez (3-9) took the loss Tuesday against the Dodgers, allowing six unearned runs on six hits and no walks over four innings. He struck out six. Marquez yielded three extra-base hits in the loss, but a pair of fourth-inning defensive errors saved the 30-year-old from being charged with any earned runs. Still, he allowed a three-run home run to Michael Conforto and had the Dodgers bat around the order as part of the six-run fourth inning. Marquez has allowed one earned run or zero in three straight starts, but he owns a 5.79 ERA and 1.64 WHIP across 77.2 innings this season. He's slated for a start in Milwaukee on Sunday.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Blanks Nats for third win

Marquez (3-8) earned the win Wednesday over the Nationals, allowing six hits and two walks over 5.2 scoreless innings. He struck out two. It was a strong effort from Marquez, who's allowed just one run over 10.2 innings in his last two starts. The right-hander's lowered his ERA to 6.11 with a 1.64 WHIP and 50:24 K:BB across 15 outings (73.2 innings) this season. Marquez is currently in line for a tough home matchup with the Dodgers in his next start.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Season-high seven strikeouts

Marquez didn't factor into the decision Friday against Atlanta, giving up one run on six hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out seven. Marquez was able to put together one of his finer performances amid what's been a rough season for him overall. The seven strikeouts represented a season high for the veteran right-hander, who pitched at least five innings while yielding one run or fewer for only the fourth time among his 14 outings. Marquez owns a poor 6.62 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 48:22 K:BB over 68 innings, so he still doesn't shape up as a recommended fantasy streamer in most cases his next time out against the Nationals.
