  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Ties career high with five RBI

Torrens went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and five RBI in Monday's 13-3 win over the Phillies. The veteran catcher put together one of the best games of his career, tying his career high with five RBI. Torrens lined an RBI double in the sixth, then launched a three-run homer off Jordan Romano in the seventh to blow the game open before adding a run-scoring single in the eighth. Remarkably, the five RBI matched his total from his previous 53 games this season combined, a stretch in which he batted just .194.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Getting second straight start

Torrens will start at catcher and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Phillies. A sore left hand kept Torrens out of action for three straight games before he re-entered the lineup Sunday in the Mets' 4-3 loss to Atlanta. Torrens' hand checked out fine after going 1-for-3 with a base hit while playing eight innings behind the dish, so he'll stick in the starting nine for the second straight day as the Mets open a three-game set with the Phillies. Torrens is likely to see the bulk of the starts at catcher until top backstop Francisco Alvarez (thumb) is ready to return from the injured list.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Cleared to start Sunday

Torrens (hand) will start at catcher and bat eighth in Sunday's game at Atlanta. Torrens was held out of action for the past three games while managing a sore left hand, but he's made enough progress in his recovery to re-enter the starting nine for the series finale in Atlanta. With Francisco Alvarez (thumb) on the shelf, Torrens should be in line to see the bulk of the starts behind the dish for the Mets now that he's moved past the hand issue.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Battling hand soreness

Torrens has been dealing with soreness in his catching hand but is available off the bench Saturday against Atlanta, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports. Torrens was surprisingly held out of the lineup Saturday for the third straight game, but it turns out his absence is due to soreness in his left hand. While he'll be available off the bench Saturday, Hayden Senger will draw another start behind the plate.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Still idle

Torrens is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta. Torrens will yield to Hayden Senger behind the plate for a third straight game. It's a rather surprising development, considering Torrens was the favorite to take over the starting catcher role while Francisco Alvarez (thumb) is sidelined. Torrens started the first two games sans Alvarez and is slashing .210/.275/.299 in 233 plate appearances this season.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Not starting again Friday

Torrens is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Atlanta. After starting the first two games at catcher following the injury to Francisco Alvarez (thumb), Torrens has now been on the bench for two straight contests in favor of Hayden Senger. It's possible the two could split catching duties fairly evenly while Alvarez is out.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Grabbing seat Thursday

Torrens is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Nationals. Torrens is the Mets' new starting catcher indefinitely while Francisco Alvarez (thumb) is shelved, but he'll begin Thursday's matinee on the bench. Hayden Senger is behind the dish and batting ninth.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Takes back over as top backstop

Torrens will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Nationals. Torrens will stay in the lineup for a second straight game and is poised to serve as the Mets' primary backstop after Francisco Alvarez was diagnosed earlier this week with a UCL sprain in his right thumb, which could threaten his availability for the rest of the season. Though Torrens should provide an upgrade defensively behind the plate, he'll likely struggle to match the production Alvarez provided as a hitter. Over 229 plate appearances on the season, Torrens has contributed a .214/.279/.305 slash line with two home runs, 16 RBI and 10 runs across 77 games.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Hitting bench in Alvarez's return

Torrens is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Angels. After starting behind the plate in each of the Mets' first three games out of the All-Star break, Torrens will get a breather as New York opens a three-game set with the Angels. After a productive month-long stint at Triple-A Syracuse, Francisco Alvarez was recalled Monday and will spell Torrens at catcher. With Torrens producing a .505 OPS since the beginning of July, he could be at risk of losing his grip as the Mets' preferred option at catcher if Alvarez can continue his hot-hitting ways in his return to the big club.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Out of lineup for second game

Torrens is not in the lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader in Baltimore. After going 0-for-4 at the dish in the first game of the twin bill, Torrens will grab a seat for the nightcap. Hayden Senger is catching and batting ninth as the Mets try to avoid the doubleheader sweep.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Getting afternoon off

Torrens is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees. Torrens will receive a breather after starting each of the previous three contests. Hayden Senger will handle catching duties Sunday.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Won't start in nightcap

Torrens is not in the Mets' starting lineup for Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Brewers. After starting at catcher and going 1-for-3 in the Mets' 7-2 loss to the Brewers in Game 1, Torrens will get a breather for Wednesday's nightcap. Hayden Senger will start behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Won't play Game 2

Torrens is not in the Mets' starting lineup for Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Brewers. After starting in the Mets' 7-2 loss to the Brewers in Game 1 -- during which he went 1-for-3 -- Torrens will get a breather for Wednesday's night cap. Hayden Senger serves behind home plate and bat ninth in Game 2.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Pops second homer

Torrens went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Pirates. He supplied the Mets' only offense on the afternoon with his fifth-inning solo shot off Mike Burrows. It was Torrens' first multi-hit performance since taking over from a demoted Francisco Alvarez as New York's No. 1 catcher, and his first long ball since March 31. On the season, Torrens is slashing .222/.296/.340 with two homers and 14 RBI in 51 contests.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Sitting Friday

Torrens is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates. Torrens was expected to take over starting catcher duties after Francisco Alvarez was sent down to Triple-A Syracuse. Torrens made three straight starts after the move, but it's been Hayden Senger behind the dish in two of the Mets' last three contests. Torrens is 4-for-45 (.089) with 11 strikeouts in June.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Day off Wednesday

Torrens is absent from the lineup for Wednesday contest versus Atlanta. Torrens started each of the first three games after Francisco Alvarez was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, but he'll get a day off Wednesday. Hayden Senger will handle catching duties for the Mets.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Stepping in as starter

Torrens is expected to take over as the Mets' No. 1 catcher after Francisco Alvarez was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. He'll be behind the plate and bat sixth for Sunday's series finale in Philadelphia. Torrens has served as New York's backup catcher since Alvarez was cleared for his season debut in late April, but the latter has been demoted due to his offensive struggles. Torrens has delivered a .232/.309/.344 slash line and strong defense, but he likely won't have much fantasy appeal outside of two-catcher formats.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Back to No. 2 role

Torrens is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals. Torrens had started behind the plate in three of the Mets' last four contests, but his opportunities are expected to take a hit moving forward with Francisco Alvarez (personal) making his return from the paternity list Thursday. Alvarez will be thrown right back into the lineup for the series finale versus Washington, starting at catcher and batting ninth.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Filling in for Alvarez

Torrens will start at catcher and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Nationals. The 29-year-old will get his third start behind the plate in four games, but he'll see his playing time dip once Francisco Alvarez (personal) returns from the paternity list, likely no later than Friday. Torrens has been productive enough when called upon this season, slashing .241/.328/.370 with a home run and 13 RBI over 122 plate appearances.

  • Mets' Luis Torrens: Back in lineup

Torrens (groin) is starting behind home plate and batting sixth against the Pirates on Wednesday. Torrens suffered a groin injury during Sunday's win over the Cubs, but with two days rest he's back in the Mets' lineup Wednesday. He is slashing .247/.313/.425 with four runs scored, one home run and 11 RBI over 80 plate appearances this season.
