  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Takes loss in Game 3

Flaherty took the loss in Game 3 of the ALDS against Seattle on Tuesday after giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out six batters across 3.1 innings. The 29-year-old righty allowed just one man to reach base through two innings following a three-hour rain delay, but things took a turn at the start of the third frame after consecutive hits from Victor Robles, J.P. Crawford and Randy Arozarena allowed the Mariners to take a 2-0 lead. Flaherty came back out for the fourth frame but was quickly pulled after allowing a leadoff homer to Eugenio Suarez and walking Victor Robles, who eventually came around to score. The Tigers now find themselves on the brink of elimination, and Flaherty likely won't be available to pitch in relief for the rest of the series after needing 76 pitches to collect 10 outs Tuesday.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Lined up to start Game 3

Flaherty is expected to draw the start on the mound in Game 3 of the ALDS against the Mariners on Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Flaherty will be back on the mound when the team returns to Detroit, looking to build off of his last outing in Game 3 of the Tigers' wild-card round series versus Cleveland. The right-hander tossed 4.2 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four batters against the Guardians. Flaherty drew one start versus the Mariners during the regular season, pitching five innings and surrendering two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters July 13.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Four strikeouts in Game 3

Flaherty didn't factor into the decision in Thursday's 6-3 win over Cleveland, allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four batters across 4.2 innings. Flaherty turned in a very strong performance in Thursday's do-or-die meeting, giving up just one run on an RBI single from Jose Ramirez in the fourth inning. The right-hander wasn't able to make it through the fifth inning, however, which kept him from earning the win once Detroit took the lead on a sixth-inning homer from Dillon Dingler. Now that the Tigers have earned the right to face the Mariners in the ALDS, Flaherty figures to make at least one more start in the postseason -- possibly during Game 3 on Tuesday.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Can't stem historic collapse

Flaherty (8-15) took the loss Wednesday, giving up three runs on five hits over 4.1 innings as the Tigers were downed 5-1 by the Guardians. He struck out six without walking a batter. The veteran righty didn't pitch poorly, tossing 55 of 83 pitches for strikes before getting an early hook, but Detroit's offense stayed quiet. Since an eight-run meltdown Aug. 24, Flaherty has delivered a solid 3.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB over 24.1 innings in five starts, but that hasn't been enough to stop an epic collapse by the Tigers, who have squandered a 15.5-game lead in the AL Central and now sit one game back of the Guardians with four contests left on the schedule. Unless he's needed over the final weekend in an all-hands-on-deck scenario, Flaherty wraps up his 2025 campaign with a 4.64 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 188:59 K:BB though 161 innings.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Looks sharp in eighth win

Flaherty (8-13) tossed five scoreless innings to earn the win in Wednesday's 11-1 victory over the Yankees. He allowed two hits and a walk, while striking out seven. Flaherty has been up and down recently, and Wednesday's sharp outing continued the trend. In his last four starts, he's alternated clunkers (eight runs allowed in five innings and four runs allowed in 4.1 innings) with good outings (one run allowed in 5.2 innings and no runs allowed in five innings). Overall, Flaherty is sitting with a 4.69 ERA across 151.2 innings this season, which is a sharp jump from the 3.17 ERA he posted in 162 regular-season innings last year while playing for both the Dodgers and Tigers. He is at least continuing to miss bats at a high rate with a 10.6 K/9 in 2025, down slightly from 10.8 in 2024. The veteran righty will look to string together some good starts, starting with his next scheduled trip to the mound Tuesday against Cleveland.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Labors in no-decision

Flaherty did not factor into the decision in Friday's 7-5 loss to the White Sox, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts over 4.1 innings. Flaherty threw just 49 of 83 pitches for strikes and allowed runs in four separate innings. It continued an up-and-down second half for the 29-year-old, who has surrendered four or more earned runs in four of his past nine outings while holding opponents to one run or fewer in another four. He'll carry a 4.85 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 171:54 K:BB across 146.2 innings into a road matchup with the Yankees next week.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Rebounds with strong outing

Flaherty allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Kansas City on Saturday. Flaherty was crushed for eight runs over five frames against the Royals in his previous start, but he fared much better against the same offense Saturday. The right-hander gave up just one run on a solo shot by Maikel Garcia in the fourth frame and finished one out shy of a quality start. It was a fitting end to what has been a very inconsistent August for the veteran hurler -- he surrendered five-plus runs in three starts while giving up one or zero runs in each of his other three outings.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Twirls gem vs. Houston

Flaherty (7-12) earned the win Monday against the Astros, throwing seven scoreless innings while allowing three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. This performance was a welcome sight for Flaherty, who entered the contest on the heels of back-to-back outings allowing five earned runs. The Detroit right-hander notched his 10th quality start of the season, as he threw 60 of his 90 total pitches for strikes. The 29-year-old lowered his season ERA from 4.76 to 4.51 across 131.2 total frames to go with a 1.29 WHIP and 162:50 K:BB. Flaherty will look to continue his good form when he next takes the mound at home against Kansas City this weekend.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Unravels in fifth, takes loss

Flaherty (6-12) took the loss to the White Sox on Tuesday, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out six over 4.1 innings. The right-hander cruised through four scoreless frames before unraveling in the fifth, surrendering six hits and all five of his runs in the inning before being lifted. After a strong July in which he never allowed more than three runs in a start, Flaherty has now been tagged for five earned runs in back-to-back outings. He'll carry a 4.76 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 153:49 K:BB into his next scheduled start early next week against the Astros.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Strikes out seven in no-decision

Flaherty did not factor into the decision in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Phillies, allowing one run on two hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over six innings. Flaherty departed with a 3-0 lead after allowing a leadoff single in the seventh inning, but the inherited runner would come around to score as the Phillies plated three runs in the frame. The 29-year-old generated 15 whiffs on 90 pitches and has now allowed three earned runs or fewer in seven straight outings, a stretch that includes four quality starts. He'll take a 4.36 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 144:47 K:BB across 115.2 innings into a home matchup with the Twins next week.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Fires six shutout innings

Flaherty (6-10) allowed five hits and a walk over six scoreless innings Sunday, striking out seven and earning a win over Toronto. Flaherty was dominant Sunday and never faced much of a threat from the Blue Jays' lineup. He fired 70 of 106 pitches for strikes and forced 16 whiffs, including seven with his slider. It was his first win since June 8, and it snapped an ugly 0-4 skid over his previous seven outings. During that span, he produced a 7.79 ERA over 32.1 frames. Flaherty now owns a 4.51 ERA with a 137:44 K:BB through 109.2 innings. He's lined up to take the mound in Philadelphia next weekend.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Early hook in loss

Flaherty (5-10) took the loss against the Pirates on Monday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts over three innings. Flaherty generated 10 whiffs on 78 pitches but struggled with traffic, allowing at least two baserunners in every inning and surrendering three runs in the second. Despite the rocky outing, the 29-year-old has now yielded three earned runs or fewer with at least six punchouts in five straight starts. He'll take a 4.77 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 130:43 K:BB across 103.2 innings into a home matchup with the Blue Jays.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Another solid start

Flaherty didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Seattle, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over five innings. Flaherty punched out at least seven batters for a fourth straight outing, and he hasn't allowed more than three runs in a start during that stretch. The four-start spurt has come immediately after a pair of appearances in which Flaherty allowed eight and seven runs, respectively. He owns a 4.65 ERA and a 124:40 K:BB across 100.2 innings this season, with his strikeout total ranking 15th in MLB.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Start postponed Tuesday

Flaherty won't start as scheduled Tuesday against the Nationals since the game was postponed due to inclement weather. The contest will be made up via a split doubleheader Wednesday, with Flaherty likely to start one of those games. The veteran right-hander is in the midst of a three-start losing streak and has a 12.46 ERA, 2.15 WHIP and 15:12 K:BB across 13 innings during that span.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Clobbered for eight runs

Flaherty (5-8) took the loss against the Rays on Friday, allowing eight runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three across 2.1 innings. It was another rough outing for Flaherty, who gave up four runs in the first inning before being tagged for four more in the third. He has yielded 15 earned runs over his last two outings, which overshadows the four consecutive quality starts that he logged prior to his recent struggles. Flaherty is projected to make his next start against the Athletics at home next week.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Fans nine, blanks Cubs

Flaherty (5-6) earned the win against the Cubs on Sunday, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out nine across six scoreless innings. Flaherty retired the first nine batters he faced, and he was able to keep the Cubs off the board after escaping a bases-loaded jam in the fourth. The 29-year-old right-hander has tossed four straight quality starts and has overcome a shaky start to the 2025 season. Flaherty now boasts a 3.41 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 71.1 innings this season, and his 85 strikeouts are fifth-most in the American League. He is in line to face the Reds at home next weekend.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Pitches well but takes loss

Flaherty (2-6) allowed three runs on three hits across 6.2 innings and took the loss Thursday against the Guardians. He walked three and struck out eight. Flaherty logged his first quality start since April 22 but still sustained his sixth loss over his last seven starts. The righty has struggled to keep the ball in the park recently, as he allowed a home run Thursday and has now served up 10 long balls across 36.2 innings during those seven appearances. Overall, Flaherty is sitting with a 4.39 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 64 strikeouts in 53.1 innings this season, and he'll look to get back into the win column in his next outing, which is tentatively penciled in for Tuesday against the Giants.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Breaks five-game loss streak

Flaherty (2-5) earned the win against the Blue Jays on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six across 5.2 innings. Flaherty had a 6.66 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over his last five starts (all losses), but he was much better in Friday's outing. He kept the Blue Jays off the board through the first five innings and struck out the first two batters he faced in the sixth, but he yielded a two-run home run to Daulton Varsho and was one out shy from logging his second quality start of the season. Flaherty will look to make it two wins in a row in his next start, tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Cardinals.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Handed fourth straight loss

Flaherty (1-4) was charged with the loss Saturday against the Angels after giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight. Flaherty was in good shape with just one unearned run allowed through five innings, but the Halos rallied with five singles and a walk to score four times in the sixth. The right-hander surrendered just three earned runs and struck out 21 in his first three outings of the year, but he's scuffled to a 5.48 ERA across 21.1 frames while losing his past four starts.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Falls to 1-3

Flaherty (1-3) took the loss against Houston on Monday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five innings. Flaherty was given an early 3-0 lead, but he coughed up two runs on a Christian Walker homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. Another Astros two-run blast -- this time by Jose Altuve -- in the sixth frame gave Houston its first lead and set Flaherty up for his third straight defeat. The veteran righty hasn't pitched all that poorly during the three-loss streak, and Monday's outing marked the first time this season he's surrendered more than three runs in a game, but his ERA has increased from 1.62 to 3.34 during that stretch. Flaherty will look to get back in the win column his next time out, which lines up to come on the road against the Angels this weekend.
