  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Tagged for eight runs in loss

Flaherty (7-13) took the loss Sunday against the Royals, allowing eight runs on 10 hits over five innings. He struck out three. Most of the damage against Flaherty came in the third inning, when Kansas City scored six runs after stringing together seven straight two-out hits. It was a disappointing outing overall for Flaherty after the right-hander held the Astros scoreless over seven frames his last time out. Flaherty's ERA sits at 4.87 through 26 starts (136.2 innings) this season with a 1.30 WHIP and 165:50 K:BB. He'll look to turn things around in his next outing, tentatively scheduled as a rematch with the Royals in Kansas City next week.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Twirls gem vs. Houston

Flaherty (7-12) earned the win Monday against the Astros, throwing seven scoreless innings while allowing three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. This performance was a welcome sight for Flaherty, who entered the contest on the heels of back-to-back outings allowing five earned runs. The Detroit right-hander notched his 10th quality start of the season, as he threw 60 of his 90 total pitches for strikes. The 29-year-old lowered his season ERA from 4.76 to 4.51 across 131.2 total frames to go with a 1.29 WHIP and 162:50 K:BB. Flaherty will look to continue his good form when he next takes the mound at home against Kansas City this weekend.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Unravels in fifth, takes loss

Flaherty (6-12) took the loss to the White Sox on Tuesday, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out six over 4.1 innings. The right-hander cruised through four scoreless frames before unraveling in the fifth, surrendering six hits and all five of his runs in the inning before being lifted. After a strong July in which he never allowed more than three runs in a start, Flaherty has now been tagged for five earned runs in back-to-back outings. He'll carry a 4.76 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 153:49 K:BB into his next scheduled start early next week against the Astros.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Strikes out seven in no-decision

Flaherty did not factor into the decision in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Phillies, allowing one run on two hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over six innings. Flaherty departed with a 3-0 lead after allowing a leadoff single in the seventh inning, but the inherited runner would come around to score as the Phillies plated three runs in the frame. The 29-year-old generated 15 whiffs on 90 pitches and has now allowed three earned runs or fewer in seven straight outings, a stretch that includes four quality starts. He'll take a 4.36 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 144:47 K:BB across 115.2 innings into a home matchup with the Twins next week.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Fires six shutout innings

Flaherty (6-10) allowed five hits and a walk over six scoreless innings Sunday, striking out seven and earning a win over Toronto. Flaherty was dominant Sunday and never faced much of a threat from the Blue Jays' lineup. He fired 70 of 106 pitches for strikes and forced 16 whiffs, including seven with his slider. It was his first win since June 8, and it snapped an ugly 0-4 skid over his previous seven outings. During that span, he produced a 7.79 ERA over 32.1 frames. Flaherty now owns a 4.51 ERA with a 137:44 K:BB through 109.2 innings. He's lined up to take the mound in Philadelphia next weekend.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Early hook in loss

Flaherty (5-10) took the loss against the Pirates on Monday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts over three innings. Flaherty generated 10 whiffs on 78 pitches but struggled with traffic, allowing at least two baserunners in every inning and surrendering three runs in the second. Despite the rocky outing, the 29-year-old has now yielded three earned runs or fewer with at least six punchouts in five straight starts. He'll take a 4.77 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 130:43 K:BB across 103.2 innings into a home matchup with the Blue Jays.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Another solid start

Flaherty didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Seattle, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over five innings. Flaherty punched out at least seven batters for a fourth straight outing, and he hasn't allowed more than three runs in a start during that stretch. The four-start spurt has come immediately after a pair of appearances in which Flaherty allowed eight and seven runs, respectively. He owns a 4.65 ERA and a 124:40 K:BB across 100.2 innings this season, with his strikeout total ranking 15th in MLB.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Pitches well in no-decision

Flaherty allowed just two runs on seven hits across 6.1 innings but settled for a no-decision in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Rays. He walked one and struck out eight. Over his last two starts, Flaherty has allowed five runs across 11.1 innings while striking out 17, but he's settled for no-decisions both times. It's at least a step in the right direction for the veteran righty, who was tagged for 18 runs across 13 innings in his previous three outings. Overall, it's been an up-and-down year for Flaherty, and his ERA is sitting at 4.70, up from the 3.17 mark he posted during the 2024 regular season for the Tigers and Dodgers. He'll look to keep building momentum in his next scheduled start, which is currently lined up for Sunday against the Mariners at home.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Start postponed Tuesday

Flaherty won't start as scheduled Tuesday against the Nationals since the game was postponed due to inclement weather. The contest will be made up via a split doubleheader Wednesday, with Flaherty likely to start one of those games. The veteran right-hander is in the midst of a three-start losing streak and has a 12.46 ERA, 2.15 WHIP and 15:12 K:BB across 13 innings during that span.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Clobbered for eight runs

Flaherty (5-8) took the loss against the Rays on Friday, allowing eight runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three across 2.1 innings. It was another rough outing for Flaherty, who gave up four runs in the first inning before being tagged for four more in the third. He has yielded 15 earned runs over his last two outings, which overshadows the four consecutive quality starts that he logged prior to his recent struggles. Flaherty is projected to make his next start against the Athletics at home next week.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Fans nine, blanks Cubs

Flaherty (5-6) earned the win against the Cubs on Sunday, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out nine across six scoreless innings. Flaherty retired the first nine batters he faced, and he was able to keep the Cubs off the board after escaping a bases-loaded jam in the fourth. The 29-year-old right-hander has tossed four straight quality starts and has overcome a shaky start to the 2025 season. Flaherty now boasts a 3.41 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 71.1 innings this season, and his 85 strikeouts are fifth-most in the American League. He is in line to face the Reds at home next weekend.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Pitches well but takes loss

Flaherty (2-6) allowed three runs on three hits across 6.2 innings and took the loss Thursday against the Guardians. He walked three and struck out eight. Flaherty logged his first quality start since April 22 but still sustained his sixth loss over his last seven starts. The righty has struggled to keep the ball in the park recently, as he allowed a home run Thursday and has now served up 10 long balls across 36.2 innings during those seven appearances. Overall, Flaherty is sitting with a 4.39 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 64 strikeouts in 53.1 innings this season, and he'll look to get back into the win column in his next outing, which is tentatively penciled in for Tuesday against the Giants.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Breaks five-game loss streak

Flaherty (2-5) earned the win against the Blue Jays on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six across 5.2 innings. Flaherty had a 6.66 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over his last five starts (all losses), but he was much better in Friday's outing. He kept the Blue Jays off the board through the first five innings and struck out the first two batters he faced in the sixth, but he yielded a two-run home run to Daulton Varsho and was one out shy from logging his second quality start of the season. Flaherty will look to make it two wins in a row in his next start, tentatively slated for next week on the road against the Cardinals.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Handed fourth straight loss

Flaherty (1-4) was charged with the loss Saturday against the Angels after giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight. Flaherty was in good shape with just one unearned run allowed through five innings, but the Halos rallied with five singles and a walk to score four times in the sixth. The right-hander surrendered just three earned runs and struck out 21 in his first three outings of the year, but he's scuffled to a 5.48 ERA across 21.1 frames while losing his past four starts.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Falls to 1-3

Flaherty (1-3) took the loss against Houston on Monday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five innings. Flaherty was given an early 3-0 lead, but he coughed up two runs on a Christian Walker homer in the bottom of the fourth inning. Another Astros two-run blast -- this time by Jose Altuve -- in the sixth frame gave Houston its first lead and set Flaherty up for his third straight defeat. The veteran righty hasn't pitched all that poorly during the three-loss streak, and Monday's outing marked the first time this season he's surrendered more than three runs in a game, but his ERA has increased from 1.62 to 3.34 during that stretch. Flaherty will look to get back in the win column his next time out, which lines up to come on the road against the Angels this weekend.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Fans nine in loss

Flaherty (1-2) yielded two runs on five hits over six innings Tuesday, striking out nine and taking a loss against the Padres. The lone blemish on Flaherty's night was the two-run shot he allowed to Elias Diaz in the second inning. San Diego's offense provided no nothing in the 2-0 contest, leading to Flaherty being handed a loss. It was his first time completing six innings this season, and he tied his season best with nine punchouts. Flaherty forced 17 whiffs, including 10 with the knuckle curve. He'll carry a 2.63 ERA into his next matchup, which is lined up to come in Houston next week.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Takes first loss

Flaherty (1-1) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four in 4.2 innings in a loss to the Brewers on Tuesday. Flaherty had a troublesome second inning, which started with a solo home run from Rhys Hoskins followed by a triple from Sal Frelick, who also ended up scoring. Flaherty was eventually pulled at 98 pitches after walking William Contreras to bring Christian Yelich up to the plate. Tuesday marked just the second time since the start of last season that Flaherty failed to reach five innings. He's been an excellent complement to Tarik Skubal in the rotation, posting a 2.53 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 25:9 K:BB in 21.1 innings so far. Flaherty lines up to face a tough Padres team at home next week.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Brilliant in no-decision Wednesday

Flaherty came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Yankees, allowing three hits and three walks over 5.1 scoreless innings. He struck out nine. In a battle of high-school teammates between Flaherty and New York lefty Max Fried, both of whom attended Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles, the duo combined for 20 strikeouts over 12.1 scoreless frames. Flaherty bowed out of the duel after 92 pitches (58 strikes) having racked up 31 called or swinging strikes. The right-hander has been impressive in his second stint with Detroit, and while he has yet to last six innings in a start, he's delivered a 1.62 ERA and 21:7 K:BB through 16.2 innings. Flaherty will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Milwaukee.

Flaherty allowed his only run on a second-inning double and was lifted just one out shy of a quality start after reaching 95 pitches. The 29-year-old has delivered steady performances in each of his first two outings, compiling a 2.38 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB across 11.1 innings. He'll face a tough test at home against the Yankees next week.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Returns to Detroit

Flaherty and the Tigers agreed on a two-year, $35 million contract Sunday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Flaherty will return to Detroit after spending the first half of the 2024 campaign with the team prior to being traded to the Dodgers at the trade deadline in July. The right-hander combined to start 28 regular-season games with Los Angeles and Detroit last year, compiling a 3.17 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 194 strikeouts over 162 innings. Flaherty will make $25 million in 2025, and his contract includes an opt-out after the season, otherwise he'll make at minimum $10 million in 2026 with the possibility of making as much as $20 million. The 29-year-old figures to again be a valuable asset for fantasy managers in 2025 while operating in a pitcher-friendly ballpark in Detroit.
