  • White Sox's Derek Hill: Claimed by Chicago

The White Sox claimed Hill off waivers from the Marlins on Wednesday. Hill was DFA'd by Miami earlier in the week but will spent the remaining five days of the regular season with the White Sox after the team placed Mike Tauchman (knee) on the 10-day IL in a corresponding move. Hill slashed .213/.275/.331 with three home runs, 10 RBI, 19 runs scored, seven stolen bases and a 9:46 BB:K across 141 plate appearances with the Marlins.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Activated and DFA'd

The Marlins activated Hill (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Monday and designated him for assignment. Though Hill is considered fully recovered from his right hamstring strain after he completed a three-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville last week, the Marlins don't have room for him on the big-league roster heading into the final week of the season. He'll give up his spot on the 40-man roster to fellow outfielder Griffin Conine (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 60-day IL. Unless he catches on with another organization in the coming days, Hill will finish the 2025 season with a .213/.275/.331 slash line to go with three home runs, seven steals, 10 RBI and 19 runs over 141 plate appearances in the majors.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Cleared for rehab assignment

Hill (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports. Previous reports indicated that the right hamstring strain Hill suffered in early September would end his season, but it now appears he's got a shot to be activated from the 10-day injured list before the end of the month. Hill's playing time had fallen off before he got hurt, and if he does make it back before the end of the season, it would likely be in a reserve role.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: IL move official

Miami placed Hill (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Sept. 2. Hill suffered a hamstring strain in Monday's game against the Nationals, and a report Wednesday indicated he'll miss the remainder of the 2025 campaign due to the issue. Friday's move opens up a spot on the active roster for Jack Winkler, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Season-ending hamstring strain

Hill is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a right hamstring strain, MLB.com reports. Hill suffered the injury during Monday's game versus the Nationals and an MRI on Tuesday revealed a significant strain. The Marlins have not yet made an official roster move with Hill, but that figures to come prior to the beginning of a homestand Friday. Hill's season will conclude with a .213/.275/.331 batting line, three home runs and seven stolen bases over 53 contests.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Suffers hamstring injury Monday

Hill was removed from Monday's game against the Nationals in the third inning due to right hamstring discomfort, Stephen Strom of Marlins Radio Network reports. Hill sustained the injury while running to first base on his lone plate appearance of the day, when he reached on a throwing error. The Marlins summoned Victor Mesa from the bench to pinch run for Hill, who could be subject to further testing on the hamstring injury before Miami determines whether he'll require a stint on the injured list.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Goes yard in return

Hill went 1-for-2 with a pinch-hit solo home run in Monday's loss to the Astros. The 29-year-old outfielder was activated from the IL earlier in the day after recovering from a finger injury, and he came off the bench to sock his third homer of the season in his 34th game. Hill's .639 OPS through 102 plate appearances is right in line with his career production, and with Jakob Marsee getting a long look in center field, there likely won't be consistent playing time available for Hill down the stretch.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Lands on IL

The Marlins placed Hill on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to a sprained left middle finger, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Hill apparently suffered the injury in the batting cage Saturday and will be sidelined for at least the next week-plus. Jack Winkler was added to the big-league roster in a corresponding move.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Managing finger injury

Hill is not in Sunday's lineup against Kansas City due to a minor finger injury, Nate Karzmer of Fish on First reports. According to manager Clayton McCullough, Hill picked up the injury in the batting cage Saturday. However, it doesn't seem like the outfielder is dealing with a significant issue, as he's available off the bench Sunday. Hill has been working as Miami's fourth outfielder, and his last start came July 12, two games prior to the All-Star break.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Coming off IL on Tuesday

Hill (wrist) will be activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday's contest versus the Twins, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports. Hill has been shelved for a little more than a month with a left wrist sprain but is ready to return after going 3-for-11 in three rehab contests. He is likely to share center-field duties with Dane Myers.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Cleared for rehab assignment

Hill (wrist) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Hill has been sidelined for the past month with a left wrist sprain but has been cleared to play in rehab games. He'll likely require just a handful of rehab at-bats, with a return for the start of the Marlins' homestand on Tuesday representing a possible target date for Hill's return.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Begins hitting progression

Hill (wrist) began a hitting progression Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Hill has been shelved for the past three weeks with a sprained left wrist but has been cleared to begin a hitting program. He's likely to require a rehab assignment before rejoining the Marlins, and it's unclear when he might be ready for that.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Lands on injured list

Hill was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday due to a left wrist sprain. Hill went 1-for-4 in Sunday's series finale against the Angels, so it's currently unclear as to when he suffered this injury. He'll be shut down for at least the next 10 days as a result. Victor Mesa was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Playing time picking up

Hill will start in center field and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Angels. Hill will crack the lineup for the third time in four games and appears to be making a case for steady playing time while his production at the plate has begun to trend up. Over the past week, Hill has gone 6-for-12 with a double, two walks, two stolen bases and one run.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Makes impact off bench

Hill went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Angels. Hill hasn't been getting much steady playing time lately, starting just four of the Marlins' last eight games. He still features off the bench regularly, and he did so Saturday while picking up his second steal and second multi-hit effort in his last five contests. The outfielder is now batting .232 with a .665 OPS, six steals, two home runs, five RBI and 11 runs scored across 78 plate appearances.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Swipes fifth bag

Hill went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Monday's win over the Cubs. The outfielder crossed the plate with the tying run in the ninth inning on Jesus Sanchez's walk-off triple as the Marlins rallied from a 7-6 deficit. Hill has split center-field duties with Kyle Stowers since being activated from the IL earlier this month, and he's been productive when in the lineup, going 5-for-19 (.263) with one of his two homers and two of his five steals on the season in seven games.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Handling part-time role since return

Hill will start in center field and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Cubs. Dane Myers' (oblique) return from the injured list doesn't appear to be imminent, but Hill looks as though he won't be in store for a full-time role in the Miami outfield since being activated last Monday following an IL stint of his own. Though he'll be included in the lineup in the series opener versus Chicago, Hill made just one start over the last four games. Rather than clearing the way for Hill to get steady at-bats, the Marlins have been deploying Kyle Stowers in center more frequently to make room in the lineup for the hot-hitting Liam Hicks at either catcher or designated hitter, with Agustin Ramirez typically occupying the other spot.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Stepping out of lineup

Hill isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays. Since returning from the injured list Monday, Hill has gone 3-for-14 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored in four games. He'll grab a seat on the bench Saturday, opening a spot in the lineup for Liam Hicks to serve as the DH and bat second.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Hitting bench Wednesday

Hill is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. After being activated from the 10-day injured list Monday, Hill started in center field in the first two games of the series with Atlanta and went 2-for-8 with a home run, a stolen base, two RBI and an additional run. Kyle Stowers will get the nod in center Wednesday, but Hill should see the bulk of the starts at the position until Dane Myers (oblique) returns from the IL.

  • Marlins' Derek Hill: Goes yard in return

Hill went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's loss to the Cubs. Making his return from the injured list, Hill spoiled Colin Rea's shutout bid by driving a fastball over the fence in left-center field in the seventh inning. The 29-year-old outfielder had been out since April 16 due to a wrist injury, but with Dane Myers (oblique) taking his place on the IL, Hill figures to get regular run in center field for the Marlins despite his offensive struggles. Through 52 plate appearances this season, he's slashing .174/.240/.348 with two homers, three steals, five RBI and eight runs, and after fanning twice Monday, he's saddled with a 36.5 percent strikeout rate.
