  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Allows two homers in loss

Freeland (3-13) took the loss against the Pirates on Saturday, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings. Freeland was hurt by the long ball, giving up two-run homers in both the second and third innings. The veteran southpaw generated just four swinging strikes on 94 pitches and has now allowed at least five earned runs in seven of 24 starts this year. He'll carry a 5.31 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 91:34 K:BB across 125.1 innings into a home matchup with the Cubs next weekend.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Cleared to start Saturday

Freeland (finger) is slated to start Saturday's game against the Pirates at PNC Park. Freeland developed a blister on his pitching hand during his most recent outing in Monday's 4-3 win over the Dodgers, but it apparently didn't prevent him from completing his between-starts bullpen session. He'll return to the mound on his standard four days' rest and shouldn't face any restrictions as he takes the hill for his 24th start of the season.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Dealing with blister

Freeland left Monday's start against the Dodgers due to an apparent blister on his pitching hand, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports. He allowed two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five over four innings before departing. Freeland tried to go back out for a fifth inning of work but walked back to the clubhouse after it became clear he couldn't fight through the issue any longer. It's currently unclear if the issue will cause the southpaw to miss his next turn through the rotation, which tentatively lines up for Saturday in Pittsburgh.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Blanks Cardinals during win

Freeland (3-12) picked up the win against the Cardinals on Tuesday, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out two in 7.1 scoreless innings. The left-hander delivered arguably his best outing of the season Tuesday, throwing 93 pitches (62 strikes) and blanking the Cardinals over a season-high 7.1 innings. Despite the sharp performance, Freeland still sports a 5.18 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 80:30 K:BB through 116.1 innings. The veteran has now held opponents to two runs or fewer in three of his last five starts, but his track record suggests maintaining this form will be a challenge.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Falls to Blue Jays

Freeland (2-12) took the loss Wednesday against Toronto, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out four. After holding Toronto scoreless through his first two innings, Freeland gave up a two-out, three-run blast to Bo Bichette in the third before surrendering three more runs in the fifth. The 32-year-old Freeland has given up seven home runs in his last four starts (19.2 innings). His ERA is up to 5.53 with a 1.52 WHIP and 78:28 K:BB across 21 starts (109 innings) this season. The left-hander will look for better results in his next outing, tentatively lined up for next week in St. Louis.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Pitches through illness in loss

Freeland (2-11) took the loss Wednesday against the Guardians, allowing two runs on three hits and no walks in three innings. He didn't record a strikeout. Freeland was pitching through an illness Wednesday, per Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com, which likely played a part in interim manager Warren Schaeffer's decision to pull the hurler after he threw just 40 pitches. The left-hander yielded a pair of runs in the first inning, but he managed to settle in to toss two clean frames thereafter. Freeland owns a 5.26 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 74:26 K:BB over 104.1 innings, and he doesn't shape up as a recommended fantasy option at home versus the first-place Blue Jays next week.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Allows four homers in no-decision

Freeland did not factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 win over the Orioles, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts over six innings. Freeland allowed four solo homers in his first two innings but bounced back with four scoreless frames. The veteran southpaw threw 66 of 93 pitches for strikes with 12 whiffs, and he's now completed at least six frames in 11 of 19 starts this season. He'll take a 5.24 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 74:26 K:BB across 101.1 innings into a road matchup with the Guardians next week.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Six strong innings in rare win

Freeland (2-10) earned the win Friday against the Twins, giving up one run on five hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out three. It was one of Freeland's finest efforts of the season, as it was just the third instance in which he fired at least six innings while allowing one run or fewer. The left-hander has still issued multiple walks in five straight outings, and he's worked to a shaky 4.34 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 40:18 K:BB covering his last 10 appearances (56 innings). Although Freeland's next start is set to come versus the Cardinals at hitter-friendly Coors Field, St. Louis has a poor .618 OPS against left-handed pitching since the beginning of June.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Fades late in loss

Freeland (1-10) yielded three runs on four hits and two walks over 5.2 innings Tuesday, striking out six and taking a loss against Boston. Freeland rolled through five shutout frames with little trouble before stumbling in the sixth inning. He was knocked out of the game on Trevor Story's two-out RBI single and was charged with two more runs after Juan Mejia entered the game. Freeland has given up at least three runs in 13 of his 17 starts this season, resulting in a 5.44 ERA across 89.1 frames. His lone win this year came against Miami on June 4, but he's since given up 15 runs over his last four outings (6.23 ERA). Freeland is currently lined up to start in Cincinnati this weekend.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: On track to return Friday

Freeland (back) threw a successful bullpen session Tuesday, and he remains on track to start Friday versus the Brewers, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. Freeland is all but set to return to action Friday in Milwaukee, toeing the rubber for the first time since being placed on the 15-day injured list with back stiffness June 15, retroactive to June 12. It will be a minimum stay on the IL for the left-hander, and he will likely avoid any usage restrictions in the outing. Freeland had posted three consecutive quality starts before going down with the injury, producing a 2.95 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 13 punchouts over 18.1 innings in those outings. The southpaw previously faced Milwaukee at home April 8, surrendering five runs on eight hits while hitting a batter and striking out five others.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Shelved with stiff back

The Rockies placed Freeland on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to lower-back stiffness. Freeland didn't seem to be dealing with any physical issues while turning in his third consecutive quality start Wednesday, so the back injury may have cropped up during his between-starts bullpen session. The lefty's stint on the IL will be backdated to Thursday, and he could be ready for reinstatement when first eligible June 27. The Rockies called up Carson Palmquist from Triple-A Albuquerque to fill Freeland's spot in the rotation.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Still searching for first win

Freeland (0-8) took the loss against the Mets on Friday, allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out four across six innings. Freeland put the Rockies behind early when he yielded a leadoff home run to Francisco Lindor. Freeland gave up additional runs in the third and fourth, including a Starling Marte solo homer. The 32-year-old southpaw was able to limit the damage to three runs and came away with his fourth quality start of the season, but he couldn't avoid the loss as the Rockies were limited to just two runs. Freeland hasn't recorded a win since September of 2024, and through 12 starts this season he holds a 5.72 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 48:13 K:BB across 61.1 innings. He'll look to get into the win column for the first time in 2025 in his next start, tentatively slated for next week on the road against Miami.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Roughed up against Bronx Bombers

Freeland (0-7) took the loss against the Yankees on Saturday, allowing eight runs (four earned) on nine hits and three walks while striking out three across 4.2 innings. Freeland put the Rockies on the back foot in the first inning after yielding a solo home run to Aaron Judge. Freeland kept the Yankees off the board over the next three frames but ran into trouble in the fifth, when he allowed seven of the first nine batters on base before being mercifully lifted for Angel Chivilli. Freeland has given up four earned runs or more in five outings this season and has gone 14 straight starts without a win, dating back to September 2024. He has a 5.86 ERA and 1.68 WHIP across 55.1 innings this season, both of which are the highest in the majors among qualified starters. Things won't get easier for Freeland, as he's slated to make his next start against the Mets on the road next weekend.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Effective in no-decision

Freeland yielded one run on seven hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against Philadelphia on Monday. Freeland allowed at least one baserunner in each inning in which he appeared, but he got through four scoreless frames before allowing his lone run in the fifth. The southpaw finished with his second-highest strikeout total (six) of the season while racking up an impressive 15 whiffs. It was one of the better starts of the season for the veteran hurler, but he still holds a poor 5.68 ERA and 1.60 WHIP through 50.2 frames.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Still winless despite quality start

Freeland (0-6) took the loss Tuesday against the Rangers after allowing three runs on six hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out five. It was the fourth quality start of the year for Freeland, whose six hits allowed were his fewest in a road outing since his first appearance of 2025. Although the left-hander has a poor 6.15 ERA and 1.59 WHIP on the season, he owns a respectable 4.25 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB over 29.2 innings on the road. With his next appearance set to come at home next week versus the Phillies, however, Freeland won't be a recommended fantasy option at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Remains winless after ugly start

Freeland (0-5) allowed nine runs (five earned) on 11 hits and a walk while striking out two over three innings to take the loss in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader versus the Tigers. Freeland had his worst outing of the season, though it wasn't all his fault. The southpaw has failed to complete five innings in his last three home starts, giving up a total of 18 runs (12 earned) over 9.1 innings in that stretch. The Rockies are even worse than usual this year, so Freeland is a risky option in all fantasy formats. He has a 6.41 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 30:7 K:BB across 39.1 innings over eight starts this season. His next outing is projected to be on the road versus the Rangers.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Gives up six runs in no-decision

Freeland did not factor into the decision in Friday's 8-7 loss to the Reds, allowing six runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out four over 4.1 innings. It was another rough outing for Freeland, who allowed at least three baserunners in three of his five innings. He's given up at least five earned runs in three of his last four outings and has given up 20 earned on the season, which is second most among qualified starters in the National League behind German Marquez (21). Freeland will look to turn things around in his next start, which is lined up for next week on the road against the Giants.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Cleared to start Friday

Freeland (finger) is listed as the Rockies' probable pitcher for Friday's game against the Reds in Colorado. Freeland suffered a blister during his most recent start this past Sunday against the Nationals, but he'll be ready to pitch on his normal four days' rest after completing his between-starts bullpen session without incident. The lefty enters Friday's outing having gone 0-4 with a 4.85 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 26 innings through five starts.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Takes loss after injury

Freeland (0-4) left Sunday's start due to a finger injury after allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk over two innings. He struck out two and took the loss against Washington in the first game of the doubleheader. Freeland gave up all three runs during the second inning and did not return for the third due to a finger issue. He threw 25 of 36 pitches for strikes and forced six whiffs. Freeland now owns a 4.85 ERA with a 19:3 K:BB through 26 frames. He was lined up to face the Reds at home next weekend, but the finger issue could push that back.

  • Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Lit up for five runs in loss

Freeland (0-3) took the loss Sunday at San Diego, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out two. The veteran southpaw is now three starts from the record for most games started in Rockies franchise history, currently held by Aaron Cook at 206. Freeland stumbled out of the gate in this appearance, allowing four runs on four hits in the first inning. The 31-year-old has had a tough beginning to the season, sporting a 4.88 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 24 innings; however, better things may be around the bend for Freeland, as he's pitched to a solid 2.49 FIP with 17:2 K:BB. He currently lines up to make his next start at home against the Nationals this weekend.
