  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Likely out for regular season

Smith was diagnosed with a moderate hamstring strain after exiting Friday's 5-1 win over the Dodgers and is expected to miss the rest of the regular season, MLB.com reports. After he was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday, Smith is eligible to return for the Giants' final five games of the regular season, but the team is expecting him to need at least two weeks to recover from the hamstring strain. The Giants are planning to call up Bryce Eldridge from Triple-A Sacramento ahead of Monday's game in Arizona, and he'll likely step in for Smith in the strong side of a platoon at first base or designated hitter with the right-handed-hitting Wilmer Flores.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Lands on IL

The Giants placed Smith on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right hamstring strain. Smith injured himself while doing the splits to catch a throw from Matt Chapman during Friday's contest, and it will now cause him to miss at least 10 days while on the injured list. Rafael Devers will start at first base Saturday against Los Angeles and figures to do so more often until Smith returns. Meanwhile, Jerar Encarnacion (hamstring) will come off the IL to claim the open spot on the active roster.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Exits with injury

Smith was removed from Friday's game against the Dodgers with a right thigh injury, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Smith suffered the injury while extending to catch a throw from Matt Chapman in the fourth inning. It remains to be seen whether Smith's injury will force him to miss any additional time, but if that proves to be the case, Wilmer Flores would be in line to receive more starts at first base.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Taking seat against southpaw

Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The left-handed-hitting Smith started in each of the Giants' last five games while the team went up against right-handed starting pitchers, but he'll bow out of the lineup for the series finale with southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez on the bump for Arizona. Smith's absence from the starting nine clears the way for Wilmer Flores to fill in at first base.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Pops fifth homer

Smith went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 11-5 win over the Diamondbacks. Smith's blast tied the game at 4-4 in the third inning. The first baseman has hit safely in his last nine games, going 13-for-37 (.351) with two homers and 11 RBI during the streak. That surge has him up to a .291/.341/.427 slash line with five long balls, 33 RBI, 26 runs scored, 12 doubles and two stolen bases over 220 plate appearances this season in a strong-side platoon role.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Idle Wednesday

Smith isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. After extending his hitting streak to five games with a pair of singles Tuesday, Smith will grab a seat on the bench Wednesday with Rafael Devers covering first base and Wilmer Flores serving as the Giants' designated hitter.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Knocks homer in Friday's win

Smith went 2-for-3 with a home run, four total RBI and one walk in Friday's 15-8 win over the Orioles. Smith continues to play well in a strong-side platoon role at first base. He's 22-for-71 (.310) with six extra-base hits and 15 RBI over 21 contests in August, though his homer Friday was his first since Aug. 2. The first baseman is up to a .284/.339/.414 slash line with four homers, 27 RBI, 21 runs scored, 10 doubles and two stolen bases across 54 games. Smith will likely continue to share first base with Rafael Devers, who is usually at the position when the Giants are facing a left-handed pitcher.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Sitting against southpaw

Smith is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs. The left-handed-hitting Smith will retreat to the bench for the second time in the series while the Cubs send a lefty (Shota Imanaga) to the hill. Rafael Devers will fill in for Smith at first base, which opens the designated-hitter spot up for Wilmer Flores.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Scores twice in win

Smith went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a double in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Brewers. Smith lined a single to center field in the sixth inning before coming around to score. The 30-year-old first baseman added a double in the seventh and scored once again. He's been productive this month, slashing .317/.339/.433 with 10 RBI, eight runs scored, four doubles, one homer and one stolen base across 62 plate appearances in 18 games during August.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Hitting bench in Flores' return

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals. Smith had started at first base or designated hitter in seven of the previous nine games, but he'll see a downturn in playing time with Wilmer Flores (hamstring) making his return to the starting nine Sunday. The Giants are likely to lean on a combination of Rafael Devers and Flores at first base and designated hitter more often than not, though Smith could replace Flores against some right-handed pitchers.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Taking seat Wednesday

Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Wilmer Flores (hamstring) is still nursing an injury and will remain on the bench for a fifth straight game, but because the Pirates are sending a lefty (Andrew Heaney) to the hill, the left-handed-hitting Smith will exit the starting nine. Smith had been included in the lineup in each of the past four games as a replacement for Flores, going 4-for-18 with a home run, five RBI and three runs.

The first baseman has seen a slight dip in playing time since the All-Star break, logging a plate appearance in five of San Francisco's 12 games in that stretch. • Giants' Dominic Smith: Sitting versus right-hander

Smith is not in the lineup for Monday's contest in Atlanta. Smith has been serving as the Giants' primary first baseman against right-handed pitching, but he will take a seat in Monday's series opener. Wilmer Flores will draw the start at first base and bat seventh for San Francisco while Atlanta sends righty Bryce Elder to the hill.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Homers in Friday's win

Smith went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-7 win over the Dodgers. Smith's solo shot in the fifth inning sparked a five-run rally for the Giants. This was his second homer with the team and the first at home. He's struggled with consistency at the plate lately, going just 3-for-21 (.143) over eight games in July so far. He's at a .244/.322/.385 slash line through 90 plate appearances this season while working in a timeshare with Wilmer Flores at first base.

Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Diamondbacks. Smith singled in the second inning and added a double in the seventh before coming around to score. With that, the first baseman delivered his first multi-hit performance since June 13. The 30-year-old has been out of the lineup in five of the club's last eight games, losing playing time at first base to Wilmer Flores. Smith appeared in 19 games in June after signing a one-year contract with San Francisco on June 4, slashing .281/.368/.404 with eight RBI, six runs scored, four doubles, one home run and one stolen base across 68 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Losing work to Flores

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. After Rafael Devers made his Giants debut June 17, Smith remained in the lineup at first base for San Francisco's ensuing two matchups against right-handed pitchers. Since then however, Smith appears to have faded into a part-time role in favor of Wilmer Flores, who was displaced at DH by Devers. Smith is on the bench Sunday for the fifth time in the Giants' last eight matchups with a righty.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Sitting against RHP

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox. The left-handed-hitting Smith will take a seat against a right-handed pitcher (Lucas Giolito) for the second time in the series. Smith has produced an .801 OPS in 16 games since joining the Giants earlier this month, but he could nonetheless have to settle for a part-time role at first base against right-handed pitching with the acquisition of Rafael Devers having displaced Wilmer Flores from the designated-hitter spot.

  • Giants' Dominic Smith: Not in Friday's lineup

Smith is not in San Francisco's starting lineup against Boston on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Smith will take a seat after going 1-for-10 with one RBI and four strikeouts during the Giants' three-game home series against the Guardians earlier this week. Wilmer Flores will start at first base and bat in the cleanup spot.

The 30-year-old has now logged at least one hit in four straight games, slashing .571/.625/.929 with four runs scored, three RBI, two doubles and a home run across 16 plate appearances during that span. The first baseman has provided an offensive boost since signing with the Giants on June 4, slashing .364/.395/.545 with seven RBI, four runs scored, three doubles, a homer and a stolen base across 38 plate appearances.
