  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Coughs up three in NLCS finale

Quintana took the loss Friday against the Dodgers in Game 4 of the NLCS after allowing three earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out one batter in two-plus innings. Quintana was hardly able to get comfortable on the mound before Shohei Ohtani blasted a 446-foot home run against him to begin the first inning. Mookie Betts and Will Smith followed with a couple of singles and were brought home on a Tommy Edman single and Teoscar Hernandez groundout. Los Angeles wasn't able to score any more runs off Quintana, but consistent pressure forced the left-hander out of the game after just 49 pitches. With Milwaukee's season now over, the 36-year-old will turn his attention to free agency. He figures to receive interest on the open market after posting a 3.96 ERA and 1.29 WHIP across 131.2 innings in the regular season.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Officially named Game 4 starter

Quintana will start Friday's NLCS Game 4 against the Dodgers, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The veteran lefty became the obvious choice to take the ball in Game 4 after the Brewers opted to go with Aaron Ashby as the opener and Jacob Misiorowski as the bulk reliever in Game 3. Quintana has made one appearance so far this postseason, tossing three scoreless innings in NLDS Game 3 versus the Cubs. He'll be tasked Friday with helping the Brewers stave off elimination.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Lined up to pitch Game 4

Quintana is likely to pitch in Game 4 of the NLCS versus the Dodgers on Friday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Quintana had been a candidate to see work in Game 3, but the Brewers will go with Aaron Ashby as the opener and Jacob Misiorowski as the bulk reliever Thursday. It's unclear whether Quintana will make a traditional start or serve in a bulk relief role Friday, but in either case he'll likely soak up most of the innings for Milwaukee in Game 4. The veteran southpaw tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen in NLDS Game 3 against the Cubs in his lone appearance this postseason.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Looks good in sim game

Quintana (calf) threw 45 pitches in a simulated game Friday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Manager Pat Murphy said he thought Quintana threw "fantastic" Friday. The left-hander is tracking toward being available for the start of the NLDS on Oct. 4. Quintana is recovering from a strained left calf and becomes eligible for reinstatement Tuesday.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Lands on injured list

The Brewers placed Quintana on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to Sept. 15, due to a left calf strain, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Quintana was able to play catch with no apparent issues Tuesday, which seemed set him up to make his next turn through the rotation this weekend in St. Louis. The veteran left-hander was scheduled to do some running Wednesday which presumably didn't go well, and he will end up missing the rest of the regular season. Quintana will be eligible to be reinstated Sept. 30, so he could be back on the active roster for the start of the playoffs with a minimum-length stay on the shelf.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Eyeing start Sunday

Quintana (calf) played catch without issue Tuesday and is slated to do some running Wednesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. He'll likely need to throw a bullpen session within the next couple days, too, but if all goes well Quintana will start Sunday's game in St. Louis. The veteran left-hander had to depart his last outing with a mild left calf strain, but he has a good chance to avoid missing any starts.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Diagnosed with mild calf strain

Quintana has been diagnosed with a mild left calf strain, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports. Quintana tweaked the calf during Sunday's start versus the Cardinals. He will play catch Tuesday, and the Brewers expect to have a better idea after that as to whether Quintana will be able to make his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for Saturday in St. Louis.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Dealing with calf issue

Quintana suffered a calf injury in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Quintana pitched four innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two batters against St. Louis. He exited the game after throwing just 67 pitches, and his early departure is now understood to be the result of a calf injury that he suffered while covering first base, according to manager Pat Murphy. The left-hander is set to undergo an MRI, and more information on Quintana's status will likely come in the near future.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Serves up grand slam in sixth loss

Quintana (11-6) took the loss Monday against Texas, allowing five runs on four hits and two walks in 6.2 innings. He struck out four. Most of the damage was done courtesy of a Michael Helman grand slam in the fifth inning, though it was still Quintana's longest outing of the season. The veteran southpaw has lasted at least five innings in 13 of his last 14 starts. Quintana has put together a respectable 3.88 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 87:48 K:BB across 127.2 innings, and he's next scheduled to take the mound at home against the Cardinals over the weekend.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Fans six in quality start

Quintana (11-5) notched the win Wednesday against Philadelphia, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks in 6.1 innings. He struck out six. After tying a season high in runs allowed his last time out versus the Diamondbacks, Quintana bounced back with a quality start Wednesday. The six strikeouts were his most since Aug. 6 in Atlanta, and the quality start was the veteran southpaw's fourth in his last six outings. Quintana owns a steady 3.72 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 83:46 K:BB over 121 innings, and his next appearance lines up for a road tilt against the Rangers.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Stumbles vs. Arizona

Quintana (10-5) took the loss Thursday against the Diamondbacks, allowing six runs on five hits and four walks across 3.2 innings. He struck out two. It was a tough outing for the veteran left-hander, whose four walks matched a season high. Coming into the day, Quintana had not allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last six starts, posting a 2.94 ERA in that span (33.2 innings). Overall, his ERA sits at 3.96 through 21 starts (114.2 innings) this season with a 1.29 WHIP and 77:43 K:BB. Quintana will look to bounce back his next time out, which is currently slated for next week at home against the Phillies.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Settles in after early trouble

Quintana didn't factor into the decision against the Giants on Friday, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out two over 5.1 innings. The veteran southpaw was tagged for a pair of solo homers, one by Willy Adames in the first inning and another by Luis Matos in the second, but settled in and retired 10 of his final 11 batters. Quintana was pulled after 82 pitches, just two outs shy of what would've been his fourth straight quality start. Over that four-game stretch, he's posted a 2.66 ERA and a 16:4 K:BB, giving Milwaukee steady innings in the middle of the rotation.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Logs another quality start

Quintana did not factor into Sunday's decision against the Reds, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out four across 6.1 innings. Despite yielding just one run on a Jose Trevino sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, Quintana was on the hook for the loss until William Contreras blasted a two-run homer in the ninth. Quintana has logged three straight quality starts and is up to eight on the season. He has a 3.41 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB in 34.1 innings across his six starts since the All-Star break. Quintana is lined up to face the Giants at home next weekend.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Six strong frames in 10th win

Quintana (10-4) picked up the win Monday against the Pirates, allowing one run on three hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out three. Quintana delivered his second consecutive quality start, and he's now tossed at least five innings in 11 straight outings as well as 17 of his 18 for the season. The 36-year-old southpaw continues to struggle with containing the long ball, however, as he's now served up at least one homer in five straight starts. Quintana will bring a steady 3.44 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 69:36 K:BB over 99.1 frames into his next scheduled outing in Cincinnati against the Reds, who have a pitiful .607 OPS versus left-handed pitching since the beginning of July.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Moved up to Monday

Quintana will start Monday's series opener against the Pirates, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Quintana will be moved up a day to toe the rubber Monday, after he was initially set to go Tuesday. He'll swap spots in the rotation with Freddy Peralta, who will now line up to go opposite of Paul Skenes in Tuesday's matchup. The left-handed Quintana recorded a quality start Wednesday against Atlanta, tossing six innings and allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out a season-high seven batters. Quintana has struggled with the long ball recently, surrendering six home runs over his last four starts, something he'll look to correct against Pittsburgh.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Improves to 9-4

Quintana (9-4) earned the win over Atlanta on Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out seven batters over six innings. Quintana had a rocky start to his outing, allowing three singles that created one run in the first inning. He then settled down, keeping Atlanta off the board for the next three frames before surrendering a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings. Quintana's seven punchouts marked a season high, and this was just the fourth time over 17 outings that he didn't issue a free pass. With nine victories so far, the veteran left-hander has a legitimate chance of surpassing his career-high mark of 13 regular-season wins, which he has achieved on three separate occasions.

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Cruises to eighth win

Quintana (8-4) picked up the win Friday, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks over five innings in a 16-9 victory over the Nationals. He struck out four. The veteran southpaw tossed 58 of 94 pitches for strikes in an inefficient outing, but the Brewers backed him with a season-high 25 hits. Quintana continues to provide Milwaukee with reliable innings, posting a 3.69 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 24:14 K:BB over 39 innings across his last seven starts, winning four of them. He could get plenty of run support again in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come on the road next week in Atlanta.

Quintana (7-4) took the loss against the Marlins on Saturday, allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts over five innings. Four of the five runs Quintana allowed came via the long ball, and he managed just three whiffs while throwing 58 of 99 pitches for strikes. Still, the veteran southpaw has now held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in 10 of his 15 starts this season. He'll take a 3.50 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 55:33 K:BB across 82.1 innings into a road matchup with the Nationals next weekend.

It was a strong outing overall for Quintana, with the Dodgers' lone run coming on a two-out, bases-loaded walk to Shohei Ohtani in the fifth inning. It's just the second time in Quintana's last 10 starts that he's made it through six innings. The left-hander will head into the All-Star break with a 3.28 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 48:31 K:BB across 13 outings (71.1 innings).

  • Brewers' Jose Quintana: Falls to Mets

Quintana (6-3) took the loss Thursday against the Mets, allowing three runs on six hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out three. Quintana was solid for the most part Thursday against his former team, allowing just one run through his first five innings. However, the left-hander would be charged with another two runs after allowing three straight singles in the sixth in an eventual 3-2 defeat for Milwaukee. The 36-year-old veteran has been shaky of late, posting a 5.06 ERA over his last four outings (21.1 innings). Overall, Quintana's ERA sits at 3.44 through 12 starts (65.1 innings) with a 1.53 WHIP and 44:27 K:BB. He's currently lined up for a tough home matchup with the Dodgers his next time out.
