  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Back with Astros

Singleton agreed to a minor-league contract with the Astros on Tuesday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The first baseman elected to become a free agent after being designated for assignment by Houston last week, but he's returned to the organization on a minor-league deal. Singleton has appeared in just three big-league games this season but has seen plenty of action at Triple-A, posting a .224/.373/.451 slash line and slugging 16 homers in 73 contests.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Outrighted to Triple-A

Singleton cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Sugar Land. Singleton appeared in three games during his week-long stint with the Astros, going 1-for-9 at the plate before being designated for assignment. He'll officially remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed, and his .887 OPS at Sugar Land will keep him in consideration for a promotion if the Astros' bench depth is tested again later this season.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Back in majors

The Astros selected Singleton's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. The veteran first baseman inked a minor-league deal with Houston just under a month ago and will now receive his first look in the majors of 2025. After being let go by the Astros at the end of spring training, Singleton joined the Mets on a minor-league pact before being released in late June. He's played 73 games at the Triple-A level between the two organizations this year and has 16 homers and an .824 OPS.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Inks minor-league deal with Houston

Singleton signed a minor-league contract with the Astros on Sunday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Singleton was released from his minor-league contract with the Mets on Monday after batting .213 with a 12 home runs, 42 RBI, 37 runs scored and one stolen base over 55 games with Triple-A Syracuse this season. The 33-year-old first baseman will begin his third stint in the Astros organization after previously seeing big-league action with Houston in 2014 and 2015 and 2023 and 2024.

  • Mets' Jon Singleton: Gets minor-league deal

The Mets signed Singleton to a minor-league contract Wednesday. Singleton was released by the Astros in late March after failing to make their Opening Day roster but didn't have to wait long to find another organization. He put up a .707 OPS with 13 home runs over 119 games with the Astros in the 2024 regular season. Singleton will give the Mets some veteran first base depth at Triple-A Syracuse.

  • Jon Singleton: Parts ways with Houston

Singleton cleared waivers and was released by the Astros on Tuesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. The 33-year-old failed to make Houston's Opening Day roster and will now explore his options in free agency. If Singleton is unable to find a better landing spot, it's possible he returns to the Astros on a minor-league deal. He had a .707 OPS with 13 homers in 119 regular-season games in 2024.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Absent from Game 2 lineup

Singleton is not in the lineup Wednesday for Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series versus the Tigers, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Lefty Tyler Holton is opening for the Tigers, with righty Reese Olson seen as likely to cover multiple innings in relief. Singleton could enter mid-game when a righty is in there, but the Astros will go with the switch-hitting Victor Caratini again at first base to begin the contest.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Not starting Sunday

Singleton is absent from Sunday's lineup against the Guardians. Singleton will sit for the regular-season finale after going 0-for-3 with two walks and one RBI in Saturday's 4-3 win over Cleveland. Zach Dezenzo will start at first base Sunday and bat fifth.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Not facing lefty

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: On bench against LHP

Singleton is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels. Singleton will dodge a same-side matchup with lefty Reid Detmers, yielding to Victor Caratini at first base. Singleton is slashing .238/.319/.392 on the year, and he's 8-for-22 (.364) in his last eight games.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Out against southpaw

Singleton is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Angels, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. It's southpaw Tyler Anderson on the bump for the Angels, so the left-handed-hitting Singleton will grab a seat to begin the festivities. Yainer Diaz will draw the start at first base for the Astros and Victor Caratini will catch.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Three hits, two doubles in win

Singleton went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI in Thursday's 6-3 win over Oakland. It's the first multi-hit game in over a month for Singleton -- he'd gone just 10-for-46 (.217) in his previous 20 contests, though he posted a solid .858 OPS with four home runs in that span. Overall, Singleton's slashing .239/.322/.393 with 13 homers, 38 RBI and 45 runs scored in 376 plate appearances.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Sitting in series finale

Singleton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. Singleton had started at first base in both of the Astros' previous two matchups with right-handed pitchers, but he'll give way to Victor Caratini while righty Ryne Nelson takes the hill for Arizona in the series finale. With an OPS of .694 since the All-Star break, Singleton hasn't done enough to fully solidify a strong-side platoon role, though he's still likely to see the majority of the starts at first base down the stretch.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: On bench Friday

Singleton is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Kansas City. Even with right-hander Seth Lugo starting for the Royals, the lefty-hitting Singleton will take a seat. Victor Caratini will fill in at first base and is batting cleanup.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Goes yard in loss

Singleton went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Red Sox. Singleton's blast helped the Astros erase a three-run deficit in the first inning. That was his lone successful moment Tuesday, as he struck out in his other three at-bats. The first baseman has gone 9-for-32 (.281) in August, but he's been losing playing time to a combination of Zach Dezenzo and Yainer Diaz over the last week. Once Alex Bregman (elbow) returns, Shay Whitcomb may also enter the mix at first base, further impacting Singleton's role. For the season, Singleton is slashing .235/.315/.371 with 11 homers, 33 RBI, 40 runs scored and seven doubles over 96 contests.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Losing work to Dezenzo

Singleton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox. The lefty-hitting Singleton will take a seat for the third time in four games, with two of those absences coming against right-handed pitching. The 32-year-old has managed an underwhelming .591 OPS since the All-Star break and looks to have ceded primary duties at first base to rookie Zach Dezenzo.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Idle against lefty

Singleton is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers. Singleton will get the night off Monday due to southpaw Andrew Heaney taking the mound for the Rangers. Mauricio Dubon will slide to first base while Pedro Leon plays right field.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Sitting against lefty

Singleton isn't in the Astros' lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Left-hander Garrett Crochet will start on the hill for Chicago, so the lefty-hitting Singleton will retreat to the bench. Mauricio Dubon will slide over to first base instead, opening up left field for Cooper Hummel.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Idle Friday, more reps coming

Singleton is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers but should get most of the at-bats at first base following the release of Jose Abreu, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. With Abreu off the roster, Singleton should be the starter at first base for the Astros, but he'll take a seat Friday with lefty Tarik Skubal on the mound for Detroit. General manager Dana Brown indicated Friday that Houston could look to acquire another first baseman unless Singleton "takes the bull by the horn," but the 32-year-old is slashing only .213/.316/.333 on the year. Mauricio Dubon will play first base and bat sixth Friday.
